Just seen info on a new cheap autopilot system from Fyetech, controller and GPS gives Return To Launch for $149 (£93) and will connect to Hornet OSD.
Surprised they've brought this out so soon after the FY31AP

manual here

I really am in two minds now with this company.
First they brought out the FY20, it was great, worked out the box, yes no accelerometers, but compared to the FY31 IMO anyway actually performed better straight out the box.
The FY31AP, hmmm, well its good, providing you either get lucky, or take the time to USB the FY and adjust PID settings. After that then yes its good, if not you will never be really happy with it. So for some users, its a bit too involved and trial and error.
So will this be the same with the new one ?
By the looks of the manual, probably......
I have 2 FY30's with 117 OSD's in planes and love them, + my brother now use the same, he loves it, perhaps thay now that the FY31 is getting bade reviews, thus explaining the early new relies, I will be sticking with my FY30's there great.

Just got a heads up from lemonsorbie, goodluckbuy have it in stock already
http://www.goodluckbuy.com/fy-dos-inertial-attitude-stabilizer-with-gps-module-for-rc-airplane.html (http://www.goodluckbuy.com/fy-dos-inertial-attitude-stabilizer-with-gps-module-for-rc-airplane.html)
$131 with GPS module included
Update on Goodluckboy.
So after some broken conversation with GLB these units are "Due" in to stock, not available right now.
I guess it's a per-order!
Still a good price though.

Can you tell me lads what advantage I would have with this FY-DOS&GPS autopilot version over my Cyclops Storm OSD ?
The FY controls the Rudder and Throttle channel where the Cyclops does not.
You can set the cruise speed for the autopilot on the FY
The FY has :
1. Manual Mode
2. 3D Mode
3. Auto Stabilized Mode
4. Fixed altitude and Heading lock flight Mode
5. Auto Return To Launch Mode
6. Auto Circling Mode
The Cyclops has :
1. Stabilization
2. Return To Home
The switch positions on the FY are assignable to your own preference.
The FY has the ability to send its telemetry signal to a ground station software program to track ( on Google Earth ) and record the flight
The Cyclops though does have one big advantage over the FY DOS, its an OSD as well. Te FY DOS is an autopilot only so if you want to see the flight modes, current sensor, GPS coordintates and AHI etc then you need to use it with a Hornet OSD
Does anyone now whether the 117 OSD's will work with the new FY Dos.
:) G
Feiyu Hornet OSD $119.00 + FY-DOS&GPS autopilot version $ 149.00 + p&p :'(
WOW that is a bloody bargain! :o
For those that havent used one the FY31AP is a fantastic system so hopefully the DOS-AP will be just as good :)
Anyone else notice the 8 servo outputs?
I wonder if this will also be the long awaited replacement (that works) for the FY91Q.

Are you sure you're not confusing FY91Q with FY31AP?
The 31AP is fan-bloody-tastic.
Paul I was inspired by your story of a (what is it now?) a one and a half year old Sky Walker still flying happily on a FY21AP and AP117. I've just dusted off my old set and have it in the Twinstar which is great - I had nerves engaging it, but when I did it worked as it should, so happy.
I will wait and see what happens with this new one - definitely don't want to be an early adopter with FPV... sticking to the tried and tested stuff is better for me.

Nope I`m referring to the FY31AP. I have two, both are OK with gains adjusted, but you either get good stability with too harsh RTH or good RTH with too soft stabilization. With both I dropped my PID values and got excellent stability with excellent stabilization. Without adjusting the PID`s you get one or the other.
Strange :) Whats the airframe? :)
An X8 wing and a ASW 28. With the X8 you don`t notice the harsh RTH until your far out, the ASW straight away.
It`s all down to the gain, you may get lucky and the control throws for stabilization can be on the sweet spot for both good stabilization and decent RTH.
The problem being that the gain pot amplifies the output for both stabilization and RTH output, not each separately. So if your RTH is too harsh without adjusting the PID settings then when you dial the gain pot down the stabilization is also decreased even though it might be fine.
You may get a good result straight out the box, its control throw and airframe dependant. For instance I decreased my X8 throws to enable me to increase the aileron pot up for better stabilization without too much RTH, it worked, but the bi-product was hardly any control in stabilization mode, it killed the stick responses, full stick input hardly moved it off course so not really practical. The answer was to drop the RTH PID value and I got high stabilization, full control inputs and great RTH now.
Interesting :)
I get a problem with RTH over-correcting on the initial turn which can look a bit messy but after that its spot on :)

Update # 1 G,
Had an email from Alex at FY. 117 OSD will work with DoS if it is the newer type.
Once I get an update (which is the older type OSD) I will post here?
FY email:
Dear Steve,
Sorry for the late reply. We are out on training at this moment.
The AP117 is compatible with the Dos, unless it is the very old version of the AP117 (which will need to be sent back for firmware upgrade).
Sincerely,
Alexander

thanks for going to all that trouble, bud.
I have a new 117 siting in a box, its the newer black box one, not the old blue one, so it shold be good to go.

G,
Update # 2 is Not so good news for both of us as I also own the little black box!
Latest reply from FY this morning/
Dear Steve,
Upon further testing, we've found incompatibility issues when using the AP117 with the DOS autopilot.
The technicians are trying to work a solution for this. But as of now, we cannot recommend using the AP117 with the DOS System.
Sincerely,
Alexander

Further to my last email,
I'm gonna plug mine in ad see what coordinates it gives me after 7 SAT lock.
Might as well try it buddy. I will keep you informed. My DoS ships tomorrow.
BFN,
The FY Lab rat!
thanks bud

Update 3,
Got an advisory from Alex @ Fyetech this afternoon.
In short the AP 117 OSD is not 100% compatible. It seem like it has 3 display errors.
Sorry for the poor screenshot but that's all I can upload from my iPad.
Steve
I'm happy with that, I don't need those things, as long as it shows me the altitude, volts and direction home i'm happy.
:) G
Sweeeeet!
As soon as I here back with an update from Alex (FY) I will, post here.
Cheers for now
