I have one too, only bench tested it at the minute but impressed with what Ive seen. But its a real birds nest of wires inside the cramped Easystar now :laugh:..
Yes, it is a lot of wires.
I'm tempted to put it all in an old 2 metre glider I have (fibreglass fuselage'd, foam & balsa wing).
Simply oodles of room in the fuze, glides well and with a brushless on it a'la Easystar and ailerons it'd stay up for an hour++
I have 2 individualy controlled aileron servos in the Easystar and this is not supported on the FY21AP (other than a Y cable, but then they are no longer individually controlled).

Its a stand alone autopilot unit that can stabilise an aircraft, in more technical language, its a strap down inertial reference system. Doesnt need infra-red thermopile sensors or light sensors to detect the aircrafts attitude in flight, and can therefore be used to keep the aircraft straight and level in any weather conditions, or recover it from a spin ect.. It also can return the aircraft to the launch point and circle it overhead in the event of a radio failure and subsequent failsafe. These two features can also be turned on or off via the transmitter. So that, if you wanted to, you could fly out and tell the aircraft to circle a point at a constant altitude, or have the aircraft fly back to you at a constant altitude while you look at the scenery.
Forgot to mention, you can also use their OSD too and its a simple plug'n'play with the autopilot unit. The screen is a bit too cluttered for me, but it does give you a very good artifical horizon on screen.
There is also very, very little drift in the unit, and any drift is usually down to the thermal conditions, i.e. using a warm unit in cold ambient air.

Looking good so far Nigel, whats the space like in there was it a very tight squeeze ?
When I originally built the EZ*, I gutted a fair bit of the interior to fit a 2300 3S battery.
I need even more space for the FY21AP and with it's anti-vibration tray/mount, the space was nowhere near enough.
As you can see, I cut a hatch in the side and gutted some more foam and part of the internal carbon fibre stiffener I originally put in.
Some foam I was able to remove with a scalpel and the rest I burnt out with a solderin iron.
The fuselage is now only 10mm thick in some places to get the anti vibe damper tray inside.
I plan to put another short stiffener on the under belly of the fuze.
I plan on putting my RC Rx to the left of the hatch, in a small compartment I originally hollowed out but never used.
Then the FY21AP, then the FY21AP OSD etc (either just above or most likely in front of the ant vibe damper).
In short, yes, it's very tight to get it inside an EasyStar !

Yeah ive been asked by someone if i could fit one, at first i was reluctant because of the strength issues of taking that much out of it.
Will monting it without the anti vib tray give you much more flexibiliy do you think ?
Ive mounted mine using double sided squishy foam tape and not seen the unit display the vibration warning yet. I ran the motor at various throttle settings for about 20 seconds at a time as it says in the manual..
To be honest, that anti vibration mount is more trouble than its worth, it might stop the occasional jolt from reaching the unit, but it wont prevent all vibration frequencies, especially the higher ranges experienced with a high rpm prop/motor combo. This would need some serious maths but the mount just looks like it was thrown together. Although if I were using an ic aircraft, it might help. You'd get better results just using a balanced prop as this is where all the vibration will be generated with electric aircraft.
I also noticed that due to the many cables running into the unit, they would slightly push the unit off alignment and so it would no longer point straight. Plus the velcro method of attaching it to the tray wasn't the most secure way of doing it, as it could easily be moved about with hardly any effort. Not a good thing when it could shift during a hand launch, would make for some interesting 'stabilised' flights though :laugh:...

That's intersting as I read on RCG that someone had simply velcroed the main unit to the fuz of their electric foamie and had no adverse effects.
I think I will do the same as there isn't really room for the damper inside the EZ*.
With the main unit velcroed to the fuz, I think there would be room to mount the OSD unit above it on a small 'shelf' made from a bit of 2mm plywood.
Off to the man-cave for a little think...

Stabilizer unit to be velcroed to the fuze and OSD to be velcroed onto the wee little shelf.
Now need to give it a 'dry fit' with all the wiring and make sure it all goes in there and not 'bind' and transmit bad vibes to the stabilizer unit.

More of a general gear question but this is a pretty close topic. Has anyone compiled a table of the options for gear and the available solutions. I'm thinking of columns headed, OSD, Gyro, current sensor, autopilot,GPS, head tracker, goggles, video transmitters, ground antennae... there must be more.
Rows would show what manufacturers are offering.
As a new starter, I'm pretty much only aware of what FPV UK offer but all the members seems to have different permutations. Give a name of an item it is pretty easy to hunt it down on the internet but you have to know that a product exists before you can search for it.

Works great just testing it by tilting and rotating the plane by hand. Should really do the business in the air, I just need to remember that if the radio goes into failsafe the prop will run at 70% throttle :o So if your setting the throttle to run in failsafe Mark make sure you disconnect one of the ESC bullet connectors to the motor, just reconnect before launch. Might help save a finger or two :laugh:

Was going to test it this afternoon, but the Corona Rx and the pan servo glitch put paid to that. Thats twice Ive been foiled, will get the EZUHF up and running over the weekend, no more glitches or getting shot down hopefully.
Does anyone know if there will be a UK version of the EZUHF?
ImersionRC are aware of the request for making EZUHF UK legal on 459MHz.
Aparrently it only needs tweaking, but it seems a long time coming...

2 wires please :) removing one will allow the motor to enter into a spastic fit, probably not enough to hurt you with the prop, but I doubt it's good for them.
I was going to say two wires, but then I might end up reversing the motor if I plug the connectors back to front, and having the plane come back at me after launch :laugh:
I ask them every week, the most recent time was today. The answer is always the same..."no time right now, but soon..."

Good suggestion. I have read elsewhere that if you set up failsafe to triigger if the throttle reaches the throttle cut value rather than throttle zero stick position value then the radio signal has to be lost to initiate failsafe. This also means if your radio has a throttle cut button or switch you can test the RTH feature by zeroing the sticks and hitting throttle cut.

Ive started using the FY21 system, and fyi, Ive had a problem in using it with a Gopro, the OSD wont overlay the information, changed cameras and it was OK. I also had a problem with switching the overlay on from the FY21 and found that initialization / reset process seems to have cured this.

Good news. I have an Easystar and was going to put an FY20 in it..
The instructions say that the FY21 and Fy 20 both should be mounted horizontally and as close as possible to the C of G. I have an easystar with a FY 21 in it, you can make it work

Is there anyone who can get audio working with AP117 OSD?
It should just go straight through it on the green wire to audio in on the vtx
Some receivers only have right audio out though, so if your audios being transmitted on the left channel you will never hear it.
What vtx and receiver and mic are you using ?
Manual says that you've to connect the micro to audio IN and then audio OUT to the Vtx. In this way I get no audio..

I had remizbi OSD before AP117 and it worked very good. Also works when connected directly to a TV.
Ok this might sound daft but you are supplying the mic with 12v not 5v that some vtx transmitters suppy ?
AP117 OSD is supplying power for the camera, microphone and Vtx (12V)
Then all i can think is swap left to right audio in on the vtx
My Vtx has only one audio signal.. Anyone has audio working using AP117 OSD?
just a bit of info when i put the fy21ap in the bottom of my skywalker and connected all leads when test flying it i flicked ABM or RTL it seemed to head for the ground i then found that the leads were pulling down the rear of the fy21 on the soft mount so i have put some soft foam under the servo cables so the unit is now true to the wing incidence and the result was great, perfect abm and rtl
