Title: Best 16:9 FPV camera for planes
Post by: Coyote on March 03, 2019, 11:20:23 AM
Hi guys

I want to go back to a 16:9 camera even though my goggles are 4:3. It just seemed much more natural to my eyes when I did previously.

Any suggestions for one, it's been awhile since I used asny so out of touch with the current choice.

I haven't been a big user of 16:9 cameras - I know there's RunCam stuff, but I looked at the FXT cameras recently.  I used the Mars Pro and Venus Pro and they were both pretty good.  I hadn't used CMOS in a long time, but it seems to have come on a lot since the last time and the light handling was good and I could actually notice the change in aspect ratio (I do have Dom 3's, so they are natively 16:9 anyway) also you can get the camera on Amazon - which is handy if you don't want to wait many weeks form China.

My favourite FPV Camera at the moment is the full size Runcam Sparrow.

Other than 16:9, it has numerous features which make it very attractive, apart from the very cheap price. I think this camera got unfairly treated as people felt RC were bringing out Camera models just for the sake of it. Hence the price on this one. It even has a built in Mic. The OSD keypad plugs in alongside a normal setup, the FXT one doesn't, a big no no for me.

I have tried the FXT Cameras, and they dont even begin to compare with a Runcam, price or otherwise.  Sorry Mr Kitten, but it is just my opinion of course. Buying them from Amazon was easy though and they were cheap but they simply are not as good.

Eagle 2.  No question.  You could get the Eagle 2 Pro which allows you to switch between 16:9 and 4:3.  For me the eagle is feels almost like HD sometimes.  It's what I use on my wing.

I use a predators for my quads.  Also, exceptional camera and V3 is also switchable from wide to narrow.

That's one to bear in mind for sure, although I never use a mic.

Interesting, my current favourite 4:3 is indeed the Predator, the pictures brilliant, so the V3 with the ability to swap from 4:3 to 16:9 seems very attractive, if I go off the 16:9 I can always revert back.

But then you say Eagle 2 no doubt, which then makes me think its a whole world better than the Pred ?

Well I have just installed a v3 predator this morning to replace my v1 in one of my mini quads. The v3 has noticibly more shadow detail, which the v1 always struggled with. I do love the picture from the predators.  But they are very saturated and the colours aren't quite natural even with some tweaking.

The eagle 2 offers much more natural colours and very good dynamic range. I think both cameras  are similarly  priced at the moment.

Hey, no worries - I haven't tried the full sized Sparrow, so I've no idea no how the FXT compare.  That said I do have a micro sparrow and I thought that was awful :)  I'm off RunCams Xmas card list for saying that the micro sparrow and the original split was terrible, so I'm not expecting to get hold of much RunCam stuff going forward anyway
