Quads for films

I was thinking. Bigger the quad then bigger the lipo you need.

So with the big quads they use to film movies or bits in movies or TV shows like Top Gear they would need big lipos.

So my question is flight times. Us with smaller quads get around 10 / 15min depending. Would the time be the same for the big guns as well?

think they run higher cell count..

like 6s ? pulling less amps so its more efficient.

not sure on the flight times though? :/ lol

Why would they pull less amps?

When you increase the voltage, the power of the system is increased. So you will get more RPM at 50%(for example) throttle in 6S than in 3S. So you tend to fly it at less throttle and hence consuming less of current and increasing the flight time a bit.

A quad/Hexa/octo needs a certain amount of power to hover.  My Hexa for example uses about 30A on 4s LiPo. Power is not measured in amps though but in Watts.  To convert you use the formula Watts=Amps x Volts.

30A x 14.8V = 444W.  This Hexa will hover with a power of 444W regardless of the type of battery as long as the weight is constant.  If I was to swap to 6s LiPo's then 444W / 22.2V gives 20A. Equally, if I was to use 2s then it would draw 60A.

Thank you simon. I know that. I just got to the point that more power to the system, less amps consumed to get the same rpms :)
