After many years, I have taken the plunge and decided to try a flying wing.
I have bought a Hobbyking Phantom 1550mm wingspan version.

Could I please have your advices on how best to set up a Wing.

? small elevon throw ?
? large aileron throw ?
? Is it easy to set up a Futaba T12FG to fly a wing ?
You learn something new every day.

It's very easy to set up a flying wing on the 12FG.

Keep your throws small to start with. It's fairly normal to have a bit more aileron than elevator. I use a fair amount of expo too (sometimes upto 50%).

have a look for build threads on RC groups, I know nothing about this plane.
general rules for a wing are, dial in a small amount of reflex (up elevator) for level flight.
elevator throws are generally smaller than aileron movement.
CG is everything.

check CG by diving at 45 degrees on low/no power and see if it pulls out or tucks in. Tucks in is tail heavy, pulls out is nose heavy.

do the same test with power on for thrust line checks. pulls up add up thrust, tucks in add downthrust (rear motor)

hope this helps

As above.

I also recommend removing all heavy stuff (all FPV gear, motor and flight battery) for first tests. Find a gentle slope with a light wiind ideally and long grass!. and just try it as a glider. With all the weight removed it will glide much slower and you will be able to get a feel for the C.G  and mark it once you are happy and the control throws (though as speed increases you need much less throw so bear that in mind). And if it does crash its less likely to bust without the extra weight and the long grass will help to cushion the impact!

This suggestion I certainly wouldn't have thought of myself.

Great idea - I'm definitely going to try to fly it as a 'glider' first.

Use rates. You may already do this for the other types of models you fly but if not, set up the throws to what are specified for this model. Then with rates on, set the % to about 60%. If you are finding that the model is very sensitive to control input, switch the rates on and it should be more controlable until you are used to the model or can land it an make the necessary adjustments.

I dial in a bit of up elevator when I launch and I throw the wing from the side which has an unfortunate side effect of sometimes causing the plane to roll a bit too much but thats just practice really.

Consider how you're going to launch it as for me this was the single most scarey part the first few times as theres always the horror stories of lost fingers and bleeding knuckles. My solution to this immediate problem was to get someone else to throw it for me ;)
