Good shout that mate, I think I'll give that a go too. Might make flying a bit easier if I'm actually looking for a route rather than bumbling around in the middle of nowhere.

Actually this is great for working out distances with the ruler tool .. I now know my field is 700m diagonally which means as long as I stay in it, I should have decent signal.

I fly alone  (its my only option)

Be warned that google earth/maps images are sometimes as old as 2004!  It has happened several times that I have seen a potential flying site, only to drive by it and find a housing estate in place of a field.

Only change where I am is the colour of the fields, lol

I use Google Earth/Maps for checking our sites before travelling there if they are unfamiliar. I haven't tried flying possible routes though. Were you using the Google Earth built-in flight sim?

no it wasnt the built in flight sim. on the main map zoom into where you set up ground station and add paths from the left side bar. when you have made a route and back to yourself you can play/tour route and fly around the course you just made. if you look in the top right of my video you can see me panning the camera view as the tour doesnt look straight ahead when its flying round. i think you can also set the height and speed of your path but i havnt messed about with that yet. used the unregistered hypercam to record it.
