Good stuff.

The motors I normally use are the standard DJI 2212 motors (same ones as the E300s), which are 920kv.  The reason for this is that on a 3s battery and 8x5 prop, it is a nice docile introduction to quadcoptering, perfect for complete beginners.  If you then drop a 4s pack in there instead, you have a nice nippy little machine (still on 8x5 props).

Basically any motor with a 16/19mm mounting pattern can be used.  If you go for motors around 1100-1200kv range, then on 3s with 8x5 props, you will have a nice sport machine.  Fly that on 4s, and you have a little rocket!  Either these : http://www.electricwingman.com/tiger-motor-mt2208-18.aspx  or these: http://www.electricwingman.com/t-motor-mt2216-1100kv  are very good choices.  The latter are good for big power setups.  The former are ideal on 3s with 8x5 props.

The quad is designed for FPV.  There is a small ledge on the lower plate at the front that is intended for mounting an FPV camera.  You can then mount something like a mobius on the upper plate (or underneath) if you like.  I personally don't bother, I like to keep the weight down, so I run a bare minimum FPV setup.

Really helpful thanks. The tiger motors look good.

To get me started I've decided to go for the e300 kit with the standard DJI motors.

The motors will be perfect.  Just be aware that the E300 props (9.4x4.3) will require a small amount of trimming on the tips to ensure they do not touch between the front and rear rotors on each side, and the two rear rotors.  The maximum prop size is 9 inches (230mm) leaving a 5mm gap.

I can highly recommend the graupner e-props, especially for higher power setups.  The HQ carbon props are not bad too...

Thanks for the heads up on the props. I'd not noticed that they were 9.4 rather than 9.
