Birdie slope fpv

So...   this is a little 90 cm epp bird like wing..   a clone of the alula glider.

Figured for a laugh I would see how it fpv's!

Looks good, I have a Alula its my favourite for very light winds and due to its size,  I will be interested to see how she performs with that lot on board too :D

Great, rare that people on here are into sloping, and sloping FPV should be cool if a little difficult. I'm lucky live at the bottom of Devils Dyke, with Ditchling Beacon and Mill Hill (all in the top 10 on slopehunter :) ) within a 10 min drive from me. On any day with wind the lift is fantastic at these slopes. I've put an FPV pod on the Radian so I'll have to give that a go soon.

That Alula looks a bit like the Dreamflight Alula Trek. I have a Dreamflight Libelle, they fly really nicely, and speaking of Alulas, I'm probably going to make something similar to the 2M span Super Alula made by that chap in Holland instead of another wing. They're great models when designed properly.

What's the clone called Rob? Fancy one of those but the Alula itself is a bit expensive. FPVing it could be 'interesting'. I might stick a camera on my Phoenix but will wait till the weathers a bit warmer

So I took the birdie out for its first session today.

As a proof of concept - yes.  It can be done!

What is clear is:

1.  I should use more than 25mw, or a tracker!
2.  OSD would be good - especially the altimeter
3.  Air speed would be usefull.
4.  Pan is 100% essential.
5.  A bigger model - maybe around 1.6m would be optimal.

Apart from that - I flew for 30 or so minutes.  This video is a launch through to land with the goggles on.

Fantastic.. I want one !.. As you say  maybe a bit bigger model but that's the first Kipper slope FPV I've seen

It's a good site - but not suited to fpv.   I find fpv slope soaring works better on a long ridge.

General update on this.

The birdie is not ideal for slope fpv.

Too slow and lacking penitration.

I am now working on an alternative model / setup for this function.
