EzUHF UPSTAT with EzOSD problem

Hi guys
I have a problem beaming back the rssi on an inbuilt EzOSD in a XuGong v2 quadcopter made by immersionRC.

So I am supposed to set the ch10 on the EzUHF tx module in the back in my taranis.
To CH10 = UPSTAT

this is fine and I can see the rssi and stuff on the osd in the goggs.  Cool so far. So the quads EzOSD appears to be fine too.

But if I go for a range check or fly the thing, then the rssi goes up immediately and max's out at 100 really quick, setting alarm warning on OSD and triggering failsafe on the quad flightcontroller.  I suppose it's almost 100meters range when it max's out ....! WTF!!

I've tried a different UHF receiver with different areial(stock areials) and same prob. Both EzUHF tx module n rx have same software version.  Same frequency band and frame period.
Tried UK and non UK firmware
Boo hoo maybe the EzUHF tx module is fluffed up ?
Tx running on a LiFe 2100mAh 6.6v battery....should be ok I reckon with internals regulated to 5v anyway I would expect.

Would anybody be so kind as to try my tx module on another EzUHF setup with EzOSD using the UPSTAT function, to verify my tx module is good or bad? I can pay with Beer.

Any other ideas why rssi could be pants?
Thanks

Firstly the stock Tx antenna is crap. Throw it in the bin!

Secondly, now I'm not sure here as it's been a long time since I had my xugong. Are you sure upstat should show info on your taranis? I thought it was so the xugong could display the rssi and link quality on the osd.
As far as I know immersionrc never enabled the telemetry feature on their Rx's

Brucey

Ok I just re read. First point still stands!

But you set the upstat on the Rx not the tx

Gav

cheers Bruce.  Yeah UPSTAT was programmed to the 'RX' on channel 10 and the Xugong beams back the rssi on the osd.

hmmm well was hoping for more than 100 meters range on uhf.  what uhf antenna do you recommend - thank for the advice.

UHF isn't the key to range. It unfortunately uses a part of the spectrum that a lot of components generate noise on. GoPros being a good example.

You need to get the Rx antennas far away as possible and then use the Spectrum analyser function on the Rx while plugged into a pc to see if there is any noise. There must be some vids on YouTube about this.

Back to the upstat thing. My worn out grey cells seem to think that on the latest version of software there was a one button setup for the Rx when using a xugong

Oh and look for a genuine diamond antenna or better still get a dipole made up by bignose.

Cheers Bruce
Well I'd still expect more than 200 meter range on stock antenna. Perhaps my naza and go pro noise and stock antenna all made up for crap range.
I've got a diatone whip on the transmitter now.
A dipole on the quad. Super easy to make. Never tried UHF before (after all this time of farting about with fpv)  hence the newbie approach and initial frustration.

See how it goes with the UHF UPSTAT RSSI OSD reading. Need at least 1km decent range  otherwise  back to 2.4GHz
