max range FrSky clones ?

Hi guys

I would love some advice on Frsky rx. I have a dr4ii in my race wing atm. It's great but ibget rssi warnings quote a bit when I'm low and farish away.

I want to add a couple more wings to my hangar and  £20+ for a rx is steep.

rssi is a nice feature but I would rather have a rx which gives me greater signal strength when I'm low and fast.

Any cheap rx out there from banggood etc ?

Can you be more specific about the rssi readings, age of tx, tx firmware, current distance at which the warning is received and the rssi readings. I have just been through a load of issues with sorting range on my Taranis.

Ah interesting!

I normally use ezuhf so I'm a bit useless with Frsky stuff.

But the taranis is running open tx 2.1.6 Dec 2015. Tx isn't that old- in fact I'm surprised it's running that age firmware. it's the taranis plus.

Range wise- I don't know- hammering along in the race wing- maybe 400-600m? Going low obviously makes it worse.

Would be keen to hear how you increased your taranis range. I'm not interested in flying far away- but I do want rock solid control when I'm flying low and fast :D

              Unlike your 433 EZUHF, 2.4ghz isn't so hot when you try and fly out far and low. I like to use the XM Plus these days, 6kms as long as you are not too low.
  600 metres is not very far, but it rather depends on what you call low..?
I invested in a few of those small, 4 Channel EZUHF receivers, they are actually 12 channel capable once you hook them to a Flight Controller on SPPM.
    Comparatively, a fair bit more expensive than a 2.4G RX, but a rock solid connection once hooked up to a Dipole and you can use whatever Video frequency you like with it. Very resistant to side banding from 1.2G vtxs as well.
  You want to go fast and low...?.....UHF + 1.2G Video.

Alternately, (and we have tried this)...You could get some of those long FrSKy RX antennas and separate them as far apart as possible. We did some ground testing, moving them apart and together and the differences in range were considerable.

The other thing you could try is a directional patch antenna on your Taranis, or a 5dbi Monopole. To do that means soldering in a lead and SMA connector. This means you can change antennas to suit what you are doing.
  The Patch is more for long range flying with an OSD though TBH.

How low? As low as i dare haha! Maybe waist- head high at times.

I love EzUHF it's great. But a bit more of a faff. And i love the plug and play of 5.8 and 2.4 so for race wings im pretty keen with it.

these the ones you suggest? They look well priced

  Hi m8,
             Yes, thats an XM Plus....If your Taranis is 2015, chances are its running the FCC International Firmware though...Not EU Firmware.
  My Taranis is also an "old" Taranis 9D Plus, and it too has International Firmware. Im not sure you can reverse flash EU receivers with FCC Firmware.
  Try T9 Hobbysport UK, hes now selling XM Plus with FCC firmware loaded, ready to go.

The XM Plus needs a FC remember, it has no servo output pins.

Your current DR4ii receiver is a telemetry capable receiver, meaning its a Transceiver which is why antenna separation is important...The XM Plus does not have telemetry.

Id still go EZUHF if you want to go that low though. If you fly amongst or near trees etc, it will wreak havoc on your 5.8G video link anyway.

Ah v interesting m8. I didnt realise the 2.4 taranis would interfere with 5.8 video near trees ? does it cause interference etc ?

And I don't have a FC so guess that rules out that rx.

is there any difference in power output between the two firmware ?

So why is a rx with telemetry important to have seperation? and so you mean separation between the tx and rx- or the two antennae on the rx ?
