Vertical should always win, I think it was Alex IBCrazy that said horizontals better for god knows why reason. When you look at the pattern axis it makes no sense at all to do it, you are just throwing range away.

It might be that little of a loss close in that on quads the horizontal mounting outweighs the losses but that is the only reason I can think of purposely shooting yourself in the foot.
Education and schoolin is good, but FPV is gooder :)

For quads it's not going to make a lot of difference if it's a freestyle quad and many people mount across the rear arms - which should really be the worst position to put it, but works ok.  Personally for my wing I'm going to leave it vertical as there is an improvement.  It's not a huge difference as some people would have you believe, but for me I've probably got the current best performance I can get with this setup.  Video range is my limitation - 2.5Km being the furthest I can go before it becomes impossible to see.
