FY31AP + hornet wiring

hi,

I've just tried to wire up the FY31AP to the hornet osd and have been confused by simons bit of wire that he recommends when using it with an immersion RC Tx.

The control surfaces are all connected as it says in the manual, the GPS i have connected to the GPS slot on the FY31AP and i have the standalone Black and white cable below that connecting the OSD to the FY31AP. On simons wiring loom the connector with only one wire on it is in the Vin slot (OSD), the connector with 3 wires is below that in the Vout slot (OSD). these then go to the camera and vTx. I've got the current sensor cables connected to the top slot on the other side of the hornet OSD and below that is the cable connecting the OSD and FY31AP. In the middle of the OSD on the two bottom pins is the small black and white cable that allows the switching of modes. do I need to supply another power source into the two pins above this cable or not?

I'm basically just checking with you guys that there isn't going to be two (or more) power sources for anything which will result in a burned circuit board?

FY31AP uses the 5v from the Bec that powers your servos and rx, the OSD needs its own 12v via the two pin ( red / black ) plug supplied.

Hint*

Cut the black wire on the current sensors plug going into Hornet OSD, it is a ground loop and bad news if high current goes down it

Yes thanks for that. I think that explains a problem I have. The osd was bliping in and out while flying and at first I thought it must be a faulty connection but since the image from the camera was always on, it did not really make any sense.
I do have a question though,  the artificial horizon is all over the place. Is that also due to the groundloop?

No the ground loop would lead to failure of the AP altogether.

Have you calibrated the FY31AP with the jumper for level first Mark ?

After that, the only reason for it to be delayed or all over is vibrations.

Check your AER display on the OSD screen, its the screen with all the data displayed. In the top left hand corner AER should be 0000 when the plane is powered up. If any of the values are off zero with the motor powered up then its not dampened enough for the accelerometers.

I did calibrate it. But you are right, I'm not always on 0000 in flight, occasionally I hit up to 40 but in level flight its mostly 0000.
ill work on dampening it more then. Still dont know then what the osd drop outs are about.

Didn't know about the black wire from the sensor so will sort this out asap. theirs new firmware out and it's cool.

Need both done though as you now can add the extra uart wire so both tx & rx are connected now. Upgraded & tested this morning but not flight tested but everthing seems ok. AER seems too have been removed from osd screens though. Font has been changed to make it easier to read too.

Their are 2 versions of the fy31ap that change the centre attitude line. I've uploaded the 'attitude' version. This makes the line match the attitude of the aircraft rather then artificial horizon so basically tilt right and the line tilts right instead of the default left.

I looked on the FY website where they mention the FY > Hornet link, so I`m about to try it, but some are saying the UART port then other GPS tx empty pin. Have FY put a diagram just to confirm the right pins ?

I just added an extra wire to the black white wire with 4 pin connectors that go between the fy31ap & hornet.

Normally it's just the negative(black wire) & rx(white wire) hooked up at the uart port of the hornet & negative & tx of the fy31ap so I assumed it was this. No other tx ports to connect too too be honest is their?? I've tested mine and it's all functioning ok.

I assume they now speak to each other rather than the fy telling the hornet what to do! lol

Just trying mine now with 1.6, 2.1 and added wire ( Hornet serial output pin ) and FY31AP GPS tx pin. I can not change screens anymore, so no idea how the GPS coordinates will appear in emergencies. Hooked up to my telemetry I get no OSD data from the hornet at all

Also noticed my compass now keeps revolving and never stops :(

Edit : Was a bad flash - reflashed and working now but no extra telemetry still :(

Im confuddled. What do you mean with telemetry? Is that a new feature?

No its always been there, you can link the FY31AP up to a 433, 459, 900mhz etc etc depending on what data link you use.
