FY41-AP ***EXPERT NEEDED***

In desperate need of some help with my FY41!!!

To start from the beginning, FY41 setup in a HK Bixler, 1st flight a 30A ESC was completely fried after flying perfect for around 10mins (never more than 21A drawn according to OSD). ESC replaced and everything appeared ok again, however after another 5 min flight, servos locked up and plane spiralled down onto some poor guys conservatory :(! Thankfully after the poor guy returned my model we sent up the plane one last time, again after 5 min flight the servos again locked up and the plane spiralled down. Luckily this time it was next to us so we saw that the planes servos were all fully extended and locked into position, unresponsive to the transmitter. We did still have throttle control but NOTHING else.

After disconnecting the FY41 and just plugging everything into the receiver the plane flew perfect! No issues at all!

To make matters worsen friend has the EXACT same setup, his flew great for around 15 mins before experiencing the same issue! Now as soon as you connect his lipo, the servos go crazy and then lock up as described above.

Had both Teamftp and jwmachon spend ages looking at this and got no further ideas? Teamftp even has the same setup yet his works perfect!

Anyone heard any issues like this??

You need a UBEC to power your gear.. Most ESC's are designed to give just enough power for a couple of servos MAX!..

Your ESC will be browning out/cooking its self because of the extra load from the FY41AP its self and the fact its continuously making tiny corrections that you wouldn't make making when flying normally.

Always, Always, Always run a UBEC and Always remember to disconnect the red lead from your ESC if its got an internal BEC.

im no expert in fpv but im not convinced it is the bec, It still does it with not vtx or camera plugged in.

also Teamftp is wired the same in regards to power for servo-granted he as is vtx and camera powered seperatly but even after unplugging these it still happens.

Nathan - I have a 40a blueseries esc we could try (want to try) then if the servos dont lock up straight away and works then now we know it is the esc thats causing the problem. in this case we can then sort you out a ubec. but if servos lock up straight away still then we know that the problem is not esc.

Not impressed with what I have seen with the FY41 upto now, Never had a problem with my FY31ap

Only costs £4 to find out.. I think anyone who is flying anything more than a simple 3 channel LOS park flyer and isn't using a UBEC is just asking for trouble!!

Two things spring to mind, first is a Bec problem as stated above, the second is because the FY41 now incorporates the OSD as well as the AP in one your current sensor will be creating a ground loop in your system if running from the ESC`s Bec wire.

Remove the black wire from the current sensor wire going from FY41 to the current sensor itself, it will work fine still, but might point out the problem.

Either way, you should always run a separate Bec and not use the ESC`s Bec. That way if you have ESC problems or a thermal shutdown your autopilot still can control the plane, if you use the ESC`s Bec you have rendered the AP pointless
