Poor reception

Hi there,

Did my first FPV flights today using my AXN   :D

My FPV setup is 200mw boscam transmitter with big nose skew.

I use sky zone goggles with bignose skew and 5 turn helical.

I was a little disappointed with the reception I was getting. I was basically flying LOS, no more that 200m away from myself and the signal was only good in patches or if I was flying really low to the ground. I didn't feel confident to venture further away as the signal kept breaking up to the point of it not being flyable. I was hoping at the short range id get a fairly solid signal on 5.8ghz

I was flying in the middle of a load of fields and can't believe theres a lot of RF noise around.

Any ideas?

Could be a number of things, like wrong type of SMA used ( even though Skyzones are Boscam style they use Immersion SMA`s not RP-SMA`s like a Boscam receiver does )

More than likely is your on the wrong channel and are seeing a ghost channel believing your on the right one when your not.

A picture of your setup will help a lot though. Just saying I cant get any range whats wrong is a bit vague, there are so many possibilities / factors that details go a long way.
Education and schoolin is good, but FPV is gooder :)

Thanks Coyote,

I went out again this morning and changed to channel 3 (was on channel 1 yesterday) to see if that changed anything.

Signal was still really bad unless under 30m ! The signal on the ground when starting up is solid.

I checked all the connectors and they all are the correct type.

Had a scary moment when I thought it might get better the further out I went - oh dear... got about 250m out and it completely went. Nothing at all.

I took the goggles off and could just about hear the AXN and floored the power and then spotted it doing some weird mating dance oscillations over a wood in the distance.

Relieved to get it back in one piece. I've attached a picture of the setup.

I wonder if I might have a dodgy transmitter?

is the TX antenna connected? i've read on here that some adapters and connectors are duff.
OMG, IT FLIES!

Hi George
Can you post a pic of the connectors on your skyzone and a pic of the connectors on the antennas and also did you have two skews and a helix or just 1 skew and a helix, I cant remember,
Cheers and we'll get this sorted

You say you set it to channel 3

What VTX are you using?

Are you sure your skyzones are on the correct band for the brand of vtx?

Coyote

That`s what I think Rob, wrong band picking up a ghost channel instead of the correct one

Yup.  Its very easy to get wrong!
