FY-DOS question

I have installed my FY-DOS stabiliser and the auto circle and rth settings work a treat.  However, I can't understnd the heading hold mode.  When I activated this function it turned around 1km out, then overflew the launch position to a point 1 km behind and then did a 90 degree left, at which point I lost my nerve and switched it to rth.
On another flight in manual mode I was able to fly beyond the 1 km point.
Has anyone had a similar experience or know whether it has a lower distance threashold?

Also if you activate auto circle, does it circle above the launch(power on point) or the point of switching it to auto circle?

Hello Simon

Sounds like you have Geo fence turned on. You can increase the Geo fence or turn it off.

Auto circle mode circles the point you are at when you activate the feature, it does not return home and circle there. Return to home does that though, when the plane reaches its home threshold it switches mode to circle mode and circles the home position.

Still a bit confused about the max. distance setting as it was set on 4000metres (by default)

I would like to use the heading hold function altitude (which I assume is called 'line' in the software) as when I tried it was great.

The FY setting software does not have an option to switch Geo fence on or off.

Do you know in which flight mode setting ie: 'null' (manual), or 'line' the rth engages when it senses max. distance?

Although I have set my RC RX failsafe to rth (with 50% throttle), and I probably don't need the max distance setting (because if it flies out of range it will engage rth through loss of the RC TX signal), I could configure the three position switch to 'null' (manual), 'auto circle' and 'line' and turn the TX off to engage rth.  This then gives me all four options of flight modes.

I have re-read the setting instructions and those for the 41AP but the level of detail (and the quality of the English used) does not help!

As an update, I have just flown with the max. distance set to 500 metres and it returned to the home point and then auto circled.  This happened when it met the 500 metre mark flying in both manual mode and then 'line' mode. 
This leaves the question of how to disable this? (or can the max. distance be set to an impossibly long distance!).

Simon, as I understand it the 4000m distance is the default and works regardless of the mode you are in.  This "fence" cannot be turned off but can be extended to 10000 meters.  I wonder if you have set the failsafe and your RX is failing to receive and therefore kicking in the RTL function? A test would be to set it to 10,000 meters and fly away in a straight line.  Make sure you have good height and keep the throttle to at least half as RTL and failsafe do not manage the height but return at the height the model was at when RTL was selected, (not much good if you are barnstorming) as I understand it.  In FY41 you have to set the throttle to cruise setting in failsafe. I hope you sort this as I am approaching test flight time with an FY41.

You can set it to a very long distance away I believe. I don`t know about disabling it, possibly. It does sound like its going into failsafe though.

Thanks for the replies.

On the last flight I set the distance to 4000m, but got to 3000m and the RTL did kick in.  This must have been as a response to the RC RX loosing range - can't complain 'cos at least it worked!

Next stage is to go for a longer range tx/rx (Santa are you there.....?)

Sounds like you will be going UHF and lawmate then. Out of interest are you using futaba tx/rx or futaba tx/generic rx or spectrum?

I am using a 14sg and corona rx. I don't believe I am getting radio range of more than 2000 meters. I have set the fence at that but I have also set the tx off failsafe as well.  I tested this last week by flying to around 500 M from launch at 100m height and turned off the tx. The plane rtl'd ok, circled overhead ok. I then switched tx back on but could not get control. Full battery on board so no major panic. I then made sure I was transmitting but as I had the throttle at half it had safed. So I switched tx off closed throttle set modes to manual and null switched tx on selected the model and regained control. Phew. Glad I tried it out as I now know the procedure.
