Range check 35MHz

Right, I now have my receiver and matching crystals and it's all installed in my Radian. Tomorrow's looking good for a maiden so all I have to do is trim and a range check. Erm...

My old Tx  (Futaba T4VF) has no power reducing facility so I'm assuming the only way I can do it is by reducing the length of the aerial. Anyone have any guidelines on doing this? My first thought was just to see how far I can get with the aerial completely collapsed then pull out one section at a time and gauge it from there.

Am I on the right track?

When i was flying on 27megs and later on 35megs with the antenna right down we used to look at 25 to 50 paces with full control then if ok, go fly  :D

dont forget to keep your antenna in the plane straight dont double it back on its self i used to hang mine out through the tail

Yea I found that out the hard way, I scrunched my antenna up into the canopy :laugh:

Yes, I've already taken care of that. The receiver is in the servo bay under the belly (now that I've cut a little more foam out to fit it in) and I've run the antenna along the bottom of the fuse out towards the tail with about 12" trailing behind. Covered it in tape which will hopefully protect the foam from getting scuffed up on landing - assuming it doesn't land vertically that is... ;D
