Autopilot on Aileron or Rudder

I've just got a Cyclops Storm for my new Skywalker and I see that it only has a single channel for aileron control for the autopilot. Given I only want the autopilot for safety for rth (I don't think something like a Skywalker really needs stabilisation does it?), would I be OK to connect the rudder to the aileron output on the Storm instead? My main reason behind this is that I really want to be able to have a 2 servo/ 2 channel set-up for the ailerons so I can use them as flaps/spoilerons to help manage landings.

I wouldn't use rudder only mate. I have the Skywalker 1900 with the old dihedral wing and I cannot imagine trying to fly it rudder only. It would be a crash waiting to happen in my opinion. A gust of wind will push it over and although the rudder has a fair bit of authority it's not gonna save your plane like having ailerons control will.

Skywalker does not need flaps to manage landings. even weighed down hugely it just sinks gracefully to the ground with no drama,  it's a fairly draggy airframe and very predictable.

Ok thanks, that's enough confirmation for me to scrub the idea, on with the build tomorrow...

Latest version of Ardupilot does Flapperons. In Auto and RTH modes the Autopilot controls ailerons and you control flaps. Works well!
