X-5 revisited

I stripped down my x-5 - that flew like a dog.

And after giving some thought - have hacked in this.



Its a bit crude - but then idea is to put a whole lot of fin way back!

Who knows...  It may work.  If it does - I will beautify it!

Big ply plate on the bottom with a carbon rod.

Interesting. Dont see why you need those braces though?

I did something similar on my Flyingwings Falcon as shown Here.

In that case I glued a bit of ply at right angle to the fin booms with cyano, which prob does the same job as the bracing?

Will be interesting to see how it goes anyway!

Only because its temporary.

I only had some 2mm carbon rod at hand - so did that brace as a short term so I can test :)

Not Yet. Why was he interested to use it? Would be happy if he wants to use it as an option. Would certainly be nice to try that fin arrangement without my diagonal spar mod ( which added too much washout), perhaps with a laminated wing.

Cheers for the compliment Rob . Maybe I should get around to doing some 3D printed parts for it :)

I think there are 2 things good about it. The diagonal spar makes control much crisper than the usual you get with foamies and the hub (  described here ) gives very crisp video.

So far also its been very reliable.

Getting an X-5 to fly right is like trying to stop a Wag from Pouting.. You can use all the tape and glue you like but you know underneath she'll still look like a goldfish.

Probably also why it is just sitting in the shelf at the moment - one day I will get the next bit done.
