Obama (and 25 other world leaders) are coming to Newport for the NATO summit in the first week of September.. And I have been asking about the risks of drone attacks during this time.

It seems that they are imposing a large no fly zone from Surface to 10,500ft for the duration of the Summit:

With a Battleship rumored to be moored out in the channel. And the military certainly on high alert.. I think its wise South West and Wales flyers stay grounded!!

I have to say that I question the common sense of our security forces..

Looking at the chart, it shows a NFZ in A between 8am and 7pm on 3 days.. And the dot right in the middle, is the Nato summet

But they also show zone B which which is between 3pm and 11pm on the 4th Sept.. Anyone with a compass and ruler could work out where the centre of that zone is . So basically they are showing any terrorist EXACTLY where the officials are going to be on the evening of the 4th.

With fences going up around Cardiff Castle? Anyone care to guess where they are going to be????

Why not just draw a bulls-eye on a map? I dispare.. Call me paranoid (and many people already do) but I am a bit surprised that they would make this info publicly available.

You know, there are countless airfields in the UK where the runway glide slope is easily accessible by those with nefarious intent - i.e. shooting engines out, firing a missile at the cockpit etc.

If it's going to happen, it's going to happen. I'll bet twenty quid it isn't anyone flying a Phantom though.

Probably be the safest time to fly with no one else in the air :-D

You can't hide the location of a summit of this nature, unless you expect all the world leaders to fly in under cover and be whisked away to an underground bunker somewhere but that isn't how it works. This is a hugely publicized event around the world, the location of it is open knowledge.

i wasn't thinking about the summit.. I was thinking about the apparant evening activity that they are clearly going to have.. Everyone knows where the Summit is.. But the rest of the details I would assume were secret.

Nothing they are doing is secret mate, it's an international NATO summit :) You can't hide the location of that many world leaders.
