Hi everyone.  I'm always looking on the hub to see what people are up to but don't pull my finger out enough and actually contribute as much as I should.
I remember a good post by Dizzy reminding people what the hub should be about, one of the things being about sharing info on builds, being helpful  etc.... so here's my contribution.

Having started off my fpv'ing with an easystar 2 , then a zephyr 2  both of which I love for their different strengths, I decided to try for a bit more speed as I just couldn't get the zephyr to go as fast as I wanted...

I was a inspired by some of the funjet vids on youtube, particularly northernmonkey's.

Anyway, untested as yet, but more or less ready to go here's my latest fpv'er  .

Its been a bit of a squeeze getting everything in and I think this first model will end up being a bit of a test bed.  I didn't want to put things out on the extremities of the wings as the wing section is pretty thin on the ultra.  If I have problems I'll have to move things furthur apart.

It's using a mobius for fpv cam with a lens extension cable  to keep things streamlined, zippy 2800 4s, turnigy sbec, various toroids and clip on chokes,  fy41ap lite, ntm prop drive 35-36A 875w, a couple of HK MG digital servos, HK 80a esc, immersion vtx. It's also got the new frsky L9R rx just to ensure I've got time to turn it round before it goes out of range ! :D

As it is, it balances just right without any additional weight.

Anyway, I may get a chance to test it this weekend, if so I'll post the vids.

Regards

Mark

Looks great, really neat and tidy considering the cramped fuselage. Good luck with the maiden!

Don't forget 4 clicks of trim up and 4 clicks of trim to the right, or it's a lawn dart

Hi Everyone,

Well I maidened the funjet ultra and as a first test run it seemed ok but there's still a bit to sort out.   I think the gains are set too high on the FY41Ap as it really wobbled back and forth on the roll axis at various point in the flight. I assume the FY41 is over correcting then having to correct back.

(video below)

I'm using a mobius as fpv cam and also recording on the micro sd . The recorded video on my pocket dvr is coming out really quite dark and lack lustre, it was certainly brighter in the goggles.  The recorded output from the mobius to micro sd card is fine.  I don't think the editing software or youtube are doing any favours either.   I've still got some lines on the video even with lots of toroids & filters, but with everything packed in so tightly, maybe that's to be expected.  I'll see if I can improve it some more. In my zephyr 2 the only way I managed to get rid of the lines with the fy41 was to power the video side from a seperate lipo but there's no room for that here.   I've ordered a mini runcam PZ0420 to try as the main fpv cam so will see how that goes.

The motor sounded like a sack of spanners and I snapped the shaft off on the second launch so that put paid to that. There's a new one in now ready for a relaunch.
The max speed indicated was about 190kph via the airspeed indicator, whilst only about 165kph on the gps so I'm not sure whether the true speed is somewhere in between. I  was hoping for a bit more but it's ok for starters. It certainly didn't seem fast fpv'ing it, not compared to several hundred mph more I've done flying on battlefield 4  :D

The display flashed up "low power" when at full throttle,  I think the max current draw was only 45a so the 2800 30c zippy lipos should be up to the job.
The latest firmware updates for the fy41 which I've done since this flight supposedly address some issues with power consumption and calculation so I'll see if that makes a difference.

what else.....   The prop is a 7x6, I'm not sure if I'd benefit from a different size.  I had looked at 6x4 6x5 but they just seemed to small for what is now a heavier plane than the non fpv version.  I'm pretty clueless on prop size so any advice is welcome.

The second launch went pear shaped and it hit the dirt hard.  no damage other than a very slightly bent nose which straightened out perfectly in hot water and the bust prop shaft.

I got some of these hooks to glue to the fus to keep the canopy down with a rubber band.

They are transparent, hardly noticable and stick on well with superglue, others might find them useful.
That's about it.

Will keep you posted .

Doh ! .... Thanks Andy.   Think it's working now.

Ah what a great project. Good for you for putting a decent sized battery in there too. Has the stall speed increased a fair bit with all the extra weight?

I had considered doing something similar when funds allow- although the  skyfun from HK is probably more my level.

Billy ....... Sorry for the late reply on this one.  Better late than never  :D

Second flight of the Funjet ultra using the mobius as fpv cam.

Seemed to potter happily at slow speeds  in the 30's kph and great at higher speeds.

It's so easy to store and transport and great to fly when I can get it off the bloody ground.

Haven't watched this vid in full for a while.  Subsequent flights just hit 191kph  but nowhere near as fast as I'd like

Need to get back on with this plane.

later vids on youtube showed  probs with video feed.  VTX later died so maybe it was on it's way out.

Funjet Ultra FPV

Billy_boy_2010

120mph and you're still not happy?! What are you aiming for? 150 has a nice ring to it But maybe that's too much hassle?

Funny the funjet does seem like a pretty good glider- David Windestal used on for his space mission which seemed like a fairly odd choice in some ways.

Hi Billy,

Don't we always want more, or is that just me ?!  :D

I saw NorthernMonkeys vid below and that set the benchmark for me although he's gone much faster since then ....

Jeez how can I have missed these videos?! Amazing!!
