Falcon EVO Power Setup help please...

So i think its finally time for me to buy a wing. I have decided to go with the Flying Wings Falcon EVO as a close range fast close range flyer.

I want this to be Fast! For those of you that were at Mad Dogs, i mean Jordans Orange wing fast ;D Firstly does anyone have anything to say about the 'Sport' power setup that can be ordered with the wing?

Bascially im quite uselss at knowing what motor/esc/prop to buy for a fast setup. But think i will need 4S?

i love my falcon. I run it with an efficient setup. I would imagine it would make a reasonable speed demon. Not amazing though. Even though its EPP its not super robust. If you smash it into something- its still going to break badly! I have other EPP planes which seem to be a denser EPP which would fare better.

Consider the skyfun for a cheaper quicker build that will fly faster and better IMO. Assuming im right about the Falcon not surviving a big smash (a skyfun wouldnt either!)- you would still end up replacing the airframe and the skyfun airframe is cheaper and much quicker to put together.

Also- the battery and component bay in the falcon doesn't lend itself to a variety of battery sizes without cutting the plywood apart.

In fact- a laminated skyfun would probably survive a smash far better than a laminated falcon!

My TBS Cap was very robust and easily fixed. I split it in half several times. With a bigger motor it would have been a rocket- although the cap builds quite tail heavy so you would have to have the battery v far forwards.

Also IBCrazy has just released a version of his big FPV plane the chimera in a much smaller smaller format- essentially a chimera with much shorter wings. That looks a hoot and would fly damn fast i reckon. If i wanted something a bit different and fun i would look at that.

Sorry Billy i missed this post! Thanks for the advice. Not sure the skyfun is right for what i have in mind here... I saw Bruno flying his at MD and it looks amazing! so fast... so cool! but im not after that much speed. More importantly I want something i can fly quick and easy by myself, not using a ramp like Bruno made (even though it is awesome).

I might just go with the Sport option they offer on their site.

Adam, don't be put off by my monstrosity of a sky fun. A 3 or 4s one would be loads of fun and easy to hand launch. They just aren't that durable.

His plane sounds like an absolute beast. Tiny prop spinning at silly RPM launching will be tricky and lots of torque roll, hence the launch method.

My old skyfun was easy to hand launch alone- i used this motor on 4S

700W of power with a 6x4 prop. Cant be sure on speed- 80mph minimum i would think. Maybe 100?

Im not convinced the Falcon EVO is that durible either. The EPP isn't the same quality as the EPP i have had on ritewings for example. I bet if you laminated a Skyfun is would be comparable to a falcon in robustness.

I dont think my Falcon deals with wind that well tbh. Im not sure why-but i bet a skyfun would handle the wind better.

Its the shape as well as the brittle foam that let's the sky fun down on durability, with its long nose it always snaps there. Normally a clean break. At least with a wing, any wing, there aren't any bits sticking out to snap off!

Ah that's true both of mine snapped there.

At one point I had mine running nose less as as manta ray- flew quite well actually.

8x4 prop

I get 20 minute flight times, and it's definitely no slouch.

I think wings are fast by default, even with fairly efficient setups (as yours proves)

Flight times are a funny thing.

IME You can get crazy long flight times, but actually travel a fairly short distance with some setups as you're going fairly slowly. A faster plane may fly for less time, but travel a greater distance.

Good example is my Tbs cap. I'm convinced it could cover the same distance In a shorter period of time on a 3s 2650 than it could a 3300 2s. And a perk of a 3s setup was the extra punch to get out of trouble and have some fun.
