Delta Wings - Folding propeller - Yes or No ?

Logic tells me it would always be a good idea to fit a folding prop on a wing - to prevent damage on landing to the prop and / or the motor.

But, looking around the Forum at pictures and videos, it seems not many people bother with folding props.

Please discuss.

No need to a folding usless you are planning on gliding lots, like down the side of a mountain. They are less efficient and potentially have more to go wrong with them

Never broken a prop on landing or crashing! Put the brake on the esc and make sure your throttle is off when you land. Simples!

I hear they are not as efficient as a fixed prop... but thats just from reading on forums. Landing has never been an issue for me, cut the throttle before you hot the deck and if it unfortunately stops in the 12/6 vertical position the ground just knocks it into a horizontal position

I was going to ask about the brake on the esc. It really helps with gliding but I wasn't sure how it would help with a landing. I find that quite often the prop stops in the lee of the airframe anyway - is that the same with a brake on as well?

I use Aeronaut folding props on all my wings....really happy with the results. ;)

Where do you get prop stops? I do have a folding prop and aeronaut hub to try out but haven't had any luck with my homemade prop stops!

If no brake is on, the fixed prop will rotate and stop leveled with the plane/wing surface...thats where there is less windy...naturally thats why so few fixed props get broken...even on wings?

Never bothered with them myself.

I can see the advantage if hooning it down the side of a mountain- but that's about it. TBS made them popular on wings.

One disadvantage is you can't balance them- so you're more prone to vibrations.

My props do get slightly chipped eventually from landings- but they are so cheap to replace it doesn't really matter. A couple of spare props with you and you're sorted for a days flying.

Everyone makes a big deal out of having the esc brake off- but I can't say I have noticed much difference. I may have been lucky though.
