How to clean corroded components (MFD and seawater content!)

Hi guys

So I lost a plane to an estuary a while back. I did get her back- but she was in the water for 3-5 weeks before someone found it.

Anyway- I have just tested the MFD autopilot and it works!!!!! God knows how but I have full video signal, gyros work, need to test the GPS outside to be sure but it's looking promising.

Anyway- the terminals are pretty corroded and I may as well tidy them up as best I can.

The whole build is a bodge job- and I intend to use it for super risky stuff- low and far out to water mostly. I can't sell the components so may as well take the chance.

Will do a build thread when I have a bit more build progress. It won't be pretty though! :D

Hi, All I can suggest is giving the circuitry a gentle scrub using one of those soft tiny brushes for getting between your teeth. Scrub while in distilled water .
Then dry thoroughly and soak in Corrosion X.
This has brought many of my saltwater dunked stuff back to life.
I'd be amazed if the AP works properly for long though.

Lost one of my planes in a Saltwater lake, only in there for about half an hour though but enough to kill most of the electrics though.

Pixhawk, ESC, Two wing Servos, BEC and Voltage Telemetry module fried

Motor, Receiver, two expensive digital servos in the fuselage, LiPo pack  and GPS module survived.

I stripped everything out and gave them a good scrub in a 99% alcohol bath before test, was surprised that anything worked but it had to be the Pixhawk.

The plane also survived undamaged and has flown since without issue, or expensive electrics, just in case.

Totally amazed my easy star went in at mounts bay obviously with batteries connected i was told smoke was visable within thirty seconds I got it back after 45 minutes everything totaled even down to 808,s and every servo the only thing left was the air frame :(

Sea water generally kills everything there must have been an element of fresh water present for any hope.

Well that's true it was an estuary I guess.

I'm afraid everything will die after a sustained current has been passed through on its maiden but it will be a bit of fun for sure! :)
