Those little brass wotsits, control horns?

Hi
    I've been on hobbyking trying to find some spare brass fixings that connect the control rods to the servo arms on my axn (control horns?). I can't find any. Would someone be kind enough to point me in the right direction please?

You can get similar on ebay of course without paying £5 for the postage everytime

Only one option, another is to use a clevis



or a Z bend in the pushrod - depends on perference, and people generally like to use a certain type of connection depending on whether they are connecting to servos, or control horns.

I hate those things, there's no mechanical strength to them - one slip and its game over lol

Just because those crap fixings came with your AXN, that does not mean you MUST use the exact same things when you need replacements.

I never use those screw-to-tighten adjusters. I buy separate m2 threaded steel rods, m2 steel clevises, and spent £5 on a Z bender. On all my planes.

I too prefer M2 threaded rod and clevises but if you must use "those little brass wotsits" be sure to use threadlock on both the nut and grubscrew.
However if you decide to use clevises you should also add a keeper to prevent the clevis springing apart. You can make them from silicon fuel tubing.

So even though it's "only" an axn you'd go to the trouble of replacing the control rods and fixings? It's a serious question, I'm not being facetious.

Well yea - it's still a labour of love to get it in the air, flying right etc - would be very annoying to smash it up because a control horn came loose :(

You don't HAVE to, but sooner or later those things are going to fail. Having said that, I still have them on my Skywalker because I'm lazy and lost my mojo for a bit. I better get some better ones ordered.

Never had a problem with those personally, going right back to a Twin Jet about fifteen years ago.  Multiplex use them on all their foam kits and they're probably the most well engineered foamies you can get.

English Turbines

My AXN has them fitted....but you MUST use low strength Loctite on them.

They do allow fairly easy adjustment when initially installing them.....However, you may want to resort to Subtrims if you need to thereafter, as those small grubscrews can be a problem to undo with Loctite on them...The grubscrews are made from cheesey Chinese metal...lol..

I like a nice Clevis myself, mechanically, it makes for a more direct linkage as its in line with the servo arm and Horn.

Well, I was about to post and say "yeah, I mainly use clevis's", but having just inspected a bunch of my planes... I really don't.  I've got these things all over, including my Falcon wing which I use everywhere and is still going strong :)

What I do tend to do is put a blob of glue on the end of all the screwy things just to stop any possible movement - stuff that's easy to get off, but won't just come off.  An extra layer of protection as well as locktight
