Hey all, I've been talking to Chris Klick (Ritewing) about getting some mini drak plank wings cut and shipped over to the UK, clearly the more I can get the better to reduce the cost and split the shipping, so wondering if anyone else would be interested?

He can do 4 kits in a box for $100 a kit, plus $55 shipping. So in total with that split across 4 people it would probably run about £90 once I ship it to you in the UK.

Any takers?

If you aren't aware of what these are then they are essentially an extended wing kit which takes the mini drak up to a 1.4m wingspan, giving it massive range and efficiency increases. Also still flies amazingly well and if anything is even more stable.

Clearly the price is just an estimate for now, but it certainly should come in under £100.

Hmmmm potentially interested for sure......

Can he supply the mini drak with the original wings for the same price?

I'm a bit confused on the planks purpose tbh. It will make the plane more of a cruiser IMO- closer towards the Skywalker style than an agile wing. And if this is true- does it make it a bit less special and unique?

iwan_canobi

Not sure, he said he could do me a good deal on the mini drak kit so waiting to see what that actually is.

I guess the point is that it makes it a cruiser that is still agile, and still breaks down to a really small footprint. And change the wings back to the smaller ones and it's back to being an agile fast wing again. Makes it 1 size fits all.

It's no Skywalker with the plank wings, probably has the stability and efficiency of one but in about 60% of the size.

I have to say the plank wings have never appealed to me. £100 for just a pair of wings is expensive, you can buy a full plane with the electronics for that

Goodness I misunderstood- it's just the wings for £100? I read that as the MD fuse AND plank wings for £100.

I like what he's trying to do. The MD compartments allows for the entire electronics (except servos) to be kept within the fuse. This allows your MD to be two quite different planes. A fast agile wing and a cruiser- just by swapping the wings around.

If it was easy to swap the motors around at the same time it woukd be even more flexible.

But I agree- £100 for some average EPP foam is crazy money.

iwan_canobi

Yeah it's not cheap I agree. Just wanted to see if there was any appetite here, I was hoping the cost would be nearer £60-70 but when you factor in shipping it on again within the UK it bumps it up a bit.

It looks like the full Mini Drak kit would come in around the £130 mark with the standard wings or about £150 with the plank wings.

I don't think £130 is that bad for the full plane.  Sure it was nearly £200 when it first came out to ship one over.

They are expensive and I probably wouldn't have bought one had I not got a good deal on mine but it is definitely not average epp.  The foam is crazy dense and the best I've ever seen. Probably not the lightest but then that's not really a consideration with the Drak  :D

I was waiting for these to come out but have just finished my standard size wings so I'm going to try those first, I must confess to being surprised by the cost of what is just an up-grade. I'm a big fan of Ritewing but the price is a real sting IMo, I would buy another full kit with the larger wings but not the wings alone, pity as I did want to try them.

Hi Guys.
How many sets of the extended md wings do you guys need?
We do have the sleeves drilled, spar channels cnc routered for you already. The wings are placed in two jigs, one for channeling and one for drilling.

If you had to do this it would take hours.
It would also be very difficult to get the alignment correct .
This allows you to build them in very short order very precisely.

The big D extensions have 3 jigs to bet them done.
I have 8 of my own days now wrapped into the development of the Big D extensions, jigs, drill RND and wings design. Even now the router cad layout and jig is still  not done yet, lol ,,,, And I only have 5 big sets made so far.

Sorry it is just alot of work that goes into these hotwire wings to get them to match and mate up correctly.

please get a base count of how many in your group is interested and email me, I will try to get you guys hooked up with a friendlier $ .
