Archos 5 Problem

Hi guys,

Does anybody have any experience repairing the Archos 5? The connectors on mine seem to have gone a bit dodgy:-

I can use USB link but it won't charge from the lead.
I can't use the remote control or get sound with my TV station unless I push the archos forward. Picture & charging is ok at all times.

My DVR Snap on is working ok, so at least I can still record my flights.

I'm not sure if I wanna take the archos apart, any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Jay,

Hmmm, not easy if the multi-connector is 'damaged' or possible broken solder joints on the main PCB.

Is it the Archos itself that is at fault or the dock?

You need to be competant if you are going to open it up and look for and fix any broken/dry solder joints.

Don't flog it on though if you give up on it - I might be interested in it if the price is right...

Hi Nigel,

It's definitely the the multi connector on the archos that's at fault, as there are problems with the usb lead and the dock. To be honest, I think I may have feel asleep on it whilst watching the archos with a usb lead connected at the time.

I've very hesitate to open the archos up myself, wouldn't really know where to begin unless it was something simple like an obvious wire that needing resoldering.

I wasn't thinking of selling, I would like to get it repaired, it's still very usable but if the problem gets worse and I can't fix it, I'll let you know.
