High Gain Omni-Directional Antennas?

I use the original, stock 3dB rubber ducky type antenna on my reciever and have been thinking about upgrading. I have seen several high gain omni directional antennas available, from 5dB up to to 17dB.. Would these be suitable for the reciever side?? Have tried googling for info, but cant find any..
I will probably upgrade to the antenna tracking system as I use the EZ OSD anyway, but would like to be able to fall back on somthing that has a better gain than 3dB..
Any ideas would be appreciated..

Hi Foamystuff

I'm due to test my tracking ground station as soon as the climate allows, I have a 7dB that has given me better range, I also tested a 14dB omni but that was too noisy and a bit more directional I think due to its high gain. I also found that this 14dB picked up more from a new relay mast that grew overnight about a 1.5 miles from my field. The higher dB gain is not always the best option so now I carry a 3, 7, and the 14 just to see what is best on the day; at least that is my thinking. I flew a maiden on an 8dB patch and the 7dB omni through a diversity and it was the best video so far.

Notice I deliberately flew over the antennas to see what will happen to the video, there is a sudden glitch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OijG-TdKIY
