Only other point to note is that I was using stock rubber ducky on the tx. I have a diamond ant but need an extension to mount it.

Urgh! Yeah, that will definitely decrease your range to almost zero. I really wouldn't go any further until you have a solution to mount the diamond!

FYI, I made a mount for mine out of PCB board and attached it to the TX handle with a short run from the module to an SMA socket mounted on the PCB. You can then solder some lengths of 156mm wire to the PCB to act as a ground plane.

A bit like:

Some finished build pics. I had an awesome los maiden and a couple of great fpv flights. I had to add weight to the front to hit the cog, but it flew better when I actually took it off again.

Congrats on the maiden.. Looks great! Especially Love the recessed camera mount... should make it a bit more slippery .. and the lights.

Nice one mate. How did you get on launching it?

Big_Tone

My new flying field friend chucked it up for me. Didn't have enough up trim and had too much nose weight first couple of throws, but after that flew beautifully. I had a go launching too, chucked it too much on its side first time but was then ok. Even did a selfie launch and fly starting the prop, chucking it and moving hand away pronto.

Put the lights on after the first few flights ended up practically being night flights. Also had to climb a tree after a trimming reset accident. Love it though - just got some more lipos for it. Flying friend is finishing off an x8 too so will do some chasing. Will also have to make adjustments now I decided to buy a go pro.

Brucey

Great stuff, glad to see your getting on with it well. Its a great wing

I'm impressed with the handling of the venturi but less so with the flight times I'm getting. Anyone have any suggestions on a mah friendly setup?

Brucey

I could get 35 mins out of mine in its 3s guise. 2x 3s 3300, hacker 1100kv motor and 11x7 prop. Of course these times were from just cruising around at low throttle (14 amps or so)

Benny_H88

I think I could do with a few less kv than the suggested 1400, maybe 1200 and move up to a 10" prop. I think the recommended setup is a bit thirsty. Also the venturi flies nicely with a pair of 4s 3000s up front!

Brucey

Well now I'm running the z2 motor and esc with 2x4s3000, 100mph

Big_Tone

I was getting about 25 mins on pretty windy day, using quite a lot of throttle. Probs could have got more like 30 as was landing early. Reckon I could get more on a still day with less throttle and more skill. That's with 2x 3s 4000 mah lipos. 1250kv motor 9x6 prop (I think) and 60a esc

Big_Tone

Just bought 4 more lipos :) a good way to extend flying time, albeit with a landing

Big_Tone

Also the zippy compact batteries have a good mah to weight ratio. Let me put 8000 mah on and keep the venturi around 1850g.  quite cheap too.
