Simon you have a X600 dont you ? have you got it flying ok ?

l have been reading up about them on another forum, the makers of the x600d seem to be acknowleging they have a problem with the software

l can see an issue here for me as the serial no is only readable from a powered up board and l might be weeks away from that, is there any other means of finding the serial no so as l can see if my x600d is on the faulty list ?

Well, pleased to see they're being upfront about the issue!

BTW, on the X500-D I found the board would talk to the PC if you just plug the board into your PC using the USB cable, and run the supplied software/driver.

It didn't seem to matter that nothing else was connected. Worth a quick try?

hi doofer

l am not very computer literate and always find hurdles to challenge me, l chose the x600d as it says on the fpv site that you dont need to connect it to a pc, great, first thing l need to do is connect to a pc  ::)
l have downloaded the software for it and tried to run it, it says "A service installation section in this INF is invalid"  whats all this about then ?  anyone ?

ok l managed to hook up the board and connect,  my serial number is indeed on the "at risk" list  :)

l assume ther is no point putting it together just yet then

hi doofer
its only a hicup l'm sure it will get sorted if not l was reading up all about the "quadpowered" circiut board, that looks intresting and the surport for it looks good too, l want to film my buggy track from above and if l cant get or fly a quadcoptor then l might have to look at planes, l see that there is a section called foamies over on RC forums is that like polstyrene  ?  they look like they would be cheap to buy ??

heres a pic of my old buggy track from google but its about 4 years out of date, infact the track is in the field next door now

so if l dont get airborne by the summer do you fancy a day out doofer  ;D
how high can you get with your x500 ? l reckon you would need to be at about 300m to get all of the new track in shot

Hi Andy,

We've spoken on RCG and by email already about this but just for completeness:

I have now contacted all of our X600D customers and got all of the serial numbers from them.  All those that match the recall list have been sent to XAircraft (including yours) and replacement parts will be sent to your home address ASAP.

There is no need to return anything as far as I know.

I will keep you posted by email.

All the best

Simon

Hi Baloo - my FPV kit has certainly got me to that sort of range, although the extent of the image will also be a function of the field of view of the lens on the camera. I too am tempted by the 'quadpowered' board, but until the add-ons (compass lock, altitude lock, waypoints etc.) move from vapourware to the online catalogue, the Xaircraft remain much better value for money.

Cheap foamie planes like the Multiplex EasyStar are cheap, resilient and, unlike quads, pretty much fly themselves - relatively-speaking. If you look on this forum or www.rc-cam.com/forum, you'll see that 95% plus of FPV is done on such cock-up friendly technology. Recommended.

I have had a R/C Rx failure on a previous setup that failed at just a hundred ft or so, but if you have a nearby field for experimental fun, definitely on for tryouts once the weather improves (and my broken arm mends). My experience of the X500 is that a total failure/crash from 100ft + is eminently survivable on farmland... even gravel...

hi doofer

l have a 25 acre field that l can use so if you want some where to test with out fear of hitting or crashing into someone else, no problem, in the summer the grass is about 3' tall so a reasonably soft landing in the event of an unschedualled landing, l can always mow a runway if its required, its close to J3 of the M42 so l guess you are about 3/4 of an hour away,

l was looking at electric planes with a view to getting one to fly fpv but its all so confusing to a newbie, do you have any recomendations on what to buy ?,  it needs to be cheapish, available in the uk, easy to fly steady in flight and able to lift my camcorda which is l think 170g, dosent matter how big it is as it can live up at the farm so l wont have to lug it about in the back of a car

hope your arm gets better soon

cheers Andy

The most important tip in FPV is 'buy something and start making mistakes'! This isn't a hobby where, after thousands of hours of online research you'll get the perfect setup first time. Try something, have a go, and you'll find out what direction you want your project to go (bigger? smaller? steadier? faster? quad?.....).

As I mentioned, the Mulitplex Easystar is far and away the most popular FPV platform, and is ideal for beginners. Pop to Modelmaniacsonline.co.uk and type in easystar, and you'll see it's available as bare kit, artf (servos included) or even with a transmitter. I have got through two, and am not really enjoying the clone I bought (Fusion EP) as I wanted to try something else!

If you're new to FPV, let me recommend my (only) sticky topic on http://www.rc-cam.com/forum/index.php?/topic/3280-so-i-have-a-plane-now-what/ to get you started. Some of my comments there are US-orientated, here in the UK consider Simon at FirstPersonView a 'trusted supplier' - he stocks all the right kit, and at least whatever you start with will work well!
