screen or goggles?

Goggles for me are not the road i want to take in fpv! i may be wrong but i feel they could be a pain getting them on and off, stopping them slipping off ya head, looking like the guy off star trek etc etc.... so im going to TRY to put a screen in my van for now and wondered if anyone knows of a good cheap one?  :+

I fly off an old 17" LCD tv, it works really well now that I've got it setup in the back of my car and block all the reflections I can.

I was given mine and am new to FPV myself so cant recommend anything but one thing you have to look out for with screen is how sensitive they are to static, some with blue screen at the first sign of static... not good for FPV!

I fly using modified ski-mask goggs.



With onboard audio it gives me a nice immersive experience.

Flying via a screen is a cheaper solution & can be just as exciting.

Hi i have to agree with martin (badlands) at the end of last year i had a left cornea transplant on my left eye my concerns over what it will be like were reasured when i donned the goggs true immersion and with audio a reall feel .. but thats my view but evryones different horses for courses on this .. hope  that helps

Interesting you should mention the corneal transplant mark, because I am due to have something similar (deep lamellar keratoplasty) soon. I do not have binocular vision so 3D TVs don't work for me and one screen in the goggles is effectively wasted, although it wouldn't be stereo vision anyway as there is only one camera.
Hope you don't mind if I PM you about the transplant as I don't know anyone else who has experienced it.

I fly with both, but goggles are far more immersive, you feel more in the plane. The screen is better for setting up and letting others watch.

Yes no contest for me the screen comes second to goggles. Screens are good, but subject to glare wrecking the picture and none immersive. Its easy to get distracted with everything around which for me spoils the experiance a bit :)

I'm an outcast as I prefer FPV with a screen... altho I've only had a quick blast on some gogs they made me feel closed off, vulnerable and sick. I didnt feel like I was in the plane as it was like tunnel vision, still felt remote.... all a bit weird really :)

another thing i notice with the transiition from dvd player to goggles is i keep looking down to check my transmitter :)

Another point is head tracking, its pretty useless with a screen, if you look to your left or right it doesnt matter where the cameras pointing because you not looking at the screen anyway lol :)

Thanks guys for all the different views! I can see both +s and -s with both really! i think i will start with a cheap screen and progress to goggles as i suppose a lot of fpvers do!  :-\ so what would be a good investment for goggles? i hear some bad things about fat sharks ie build quality and some say for the money there not the best picture! Cheap option are the hobbyking ones but haven't seen a review on them! and also what about putting on and taking off goggles when your plane is in the air! i supose you would have to take your eyes off your plane for a few seconds? (?)

I just either take off with them on or have them sat down my nose a bit, i look over the top of them. VR1400`s i use are greart, apart from a not perfect sun shade they are pretty good

if you have a fy21ap you can take off and ever use auto balance to make sure it doesn't do anything unexpected
return to launch to fly round your head,and auto balance to circle anywhere

Screen for me, i like to have people watching me.

Plus id only wear goggles i felt safe not seeing whats going on around me.
