I saw it in the flesh today, Brucey's pictures do it no justice - the engine is tiny!

I can't believe something so compact delivers so much thrust.

LOL....Its not going to make that dreadful howl, in fact its going to be pretty quiet in comparison.....but.....It will be a LOT faster.

You'd better believe it!  :o

Fired the engine up day properly.....OMG the noise is immense! Video to follow soon, but it doesn't do it justice. The mic just cant handle it.

Where is the the video ?

By the looks of Brucey's YouTube channel he skipped the bench test and went straight for the maiden!

Ha, nice one Neil!

Well here is the video, it started up so easy and makes for a great hand warmer or hair dryer.

Who is going to be first then ??

Get 4 of these and make a turbine Quad !!
You learn something new every day.

Brucey

Ha, you could have one in the centre as the main lift and 4 small props to manoeuvre it. Spool up times are too slow

skyscraper

'kin ell.. Yu sure it wont just rip the wings off your funjet?  Looks like you didnt even get to half throttle !

What FPV gear are you planning to put on it? 5.8 GHz would be good to keep antenna small and low drag wouldnt it?

Will matter more at high speed since drag goes up proportional to the square of speed...

Hi Brucey,

So, you have her running then....:)......Good, but please don't stand at the Tail end of a Gas Turbine, in front only. If the Turbine wheel lets go at 190,000rpm.........the shrapnel are like bullets.
The start looked good, no flames or hot spots?

Did you feel any vibration then?.....You should not be able to feel anything at all if its all as it should be.....I mean as in nothing.
Far less than any of your electric motors and props.

Whens the Maiden then?.....and please, LOS only at first until its trimmed and your video link checks out.
Loose the video for more than 2 seconds and it will have buried itself.......:)

FPV gear will be my normal 2.4g stuff, but using a dipole so I can tuck it away in the foam somewhere. Yeah just about got to 1/4 throttle!

No flames, hotspots or vibrations. Start was really easy once I got the air out of the fuel line.

Long way to go to the maiden. Need to build the airframe and wait for the fuel tank to arrive. iPeel is working on a 3D printed nose cone to house the camera and keep it nice and screamlined.... I mean streamlined!

The maiden will be FPV, my LOS flying is crap and the best of times, let alone a small fast moving object (I really dont know how people do it!). Its all in the build, components used and testing to make sure I have a reliable link.

Brucey,

Sounds good to me m8.....I hope your 2.4G link has plenty of range, because this one will cover a lot of ground effortlessly....UHF for control of course?
Remember to get your fuel tank on the CG as near as possible, even a small turbine like the Kolibri will guzzle it with the tap open....As I said, my Little Reaper would average only 6 minutes on a litre of fuel...
You going to use a directional and a tracker maybe? You will need a solid link, a lot can happen in 2 seconds at these speeds...!!...Lol.

Cant wait to see it in action, you will be surprised how quiet it is once a little distance is covered...You might want to consider putting an audio link on so you can hear when the tank runs dry....they land so much better with an empty tank dead stick.....but you need to know exactly when it cuts out...... :D
