Yea but as I said, technically (as in if the law is applied) there is no difference between city flying and flying out of LOS in the countryside. Both illegal.

I think the problem is that - in the old days when "it used to be about flying planes and having fun" - it was the limited number of pilots that were having the fun. Think - which is more fun - driving a car or being a passenger?

It's the addition to flying craft of cameras and electronically assisted flying that's the problem. Now an inexperienced perv becomes a pilot - not to enjoy the flying - rather just as a means to the end of taking videos that can be posted on the internet - and thereby gaining fame or notoriety.

Ban the internet and all our problems will disappear!

Steve, I'm with you in a way...and you know we've done 'illegal' things....as we've both been at the field...  but we haven't gone blasting it out on YouTube. ...

The problem is the cathedral is a world iconic monument....and as such you have to be careful....yes he's possibly a cool guy (although that beared says otherwise) but because of him it gives the powers that be more reason for legislation. ..... do 'cool' things but don't post them to the world!

You can't expect to get away with shit like this any more. I don't really have any sympathy for the guy. His mistake was putting his face online The police have to establish who was flying, they can't just trace your IP and nick you, they need to definitively prove you were there on the day and in charge of the aircraft, so putting your ugly mug online at the sticks is basically signing your own arrest warrant.

I don't know if my videos are any better but I'd like to think I try to stay away from built up areas. But for example how many beach videos have I seen where people are flying above public beaches where there are almost always people and children below? yet those videos are liked and never criticized in the same manner as someone who dares fly over a house

Facebook is full of illegal flying. I've seen one guy post that his Talon was up at 2.7 miles high !!!!

I disagree. It isn't a 'witch hunt', I posted this as I live in Lincoln, and I work near where he flew, so is of interest to me.

The problem is we live on the cusp of two possibilities, either we are going to carry on as normal, or we are going to get legislated to  :censored: ....and this kind of 'publicity' doesn't help. Most of us on here have FPV as a hobby, and one we have all put a LOT of money, effort, and time into.... People not 'doing' this per se, but 'advertising' doing this is putting that at risk. As a community we have to be seen to want to promote safe and responsible flying!

I remember falling out with a lot of people on this forum when I was a moderator because I thought that, as it used to be affiliated with FPVUK, all dodgy videos should be banned. But, it turned out people wanted a free for all, so that is what was decided and I asked to be removed because moderation was simply not required. And it became FPVHub because Mr Dale didn't want the association to be affiliated with the "dodgy videos".

Now it's just like people can't make up their mind - which actually gets on my tits.

It seems to me that everyone on here is either legal or a hypocrite when it comes to these threads. It's really that simple. I know that may not be a popular thought, but you can't say "I'm only a little bit illegal".

People need to choose their stance and stick to it IMO! Me, I like the illegal stuff - I won't pretend I fly legally because I don't, and I'm not about to criticise someone in this hobby who flies maybe a little more illegally than me. It could just as easily be me on BBC news and I'd not be comfortable with that at all.

I'm confused tbh. I'm getting the gist that people think just because our illegal stuff isn't posted on YouTube that it's somehow "okay" but this guy is much worse because he publishes his videos? That makes no sense whatsoever. It's still illegal, and still apparently dangerous, yet we're joining in with the vilification of this guy even though it could (and should by the logic on the thread) be us facing the music.

I think a lot of people are missing the point, firstly this is a 'free for all' forum as Steve says, therefore people are free to post these sorts of things and discuss it.... Isn't that what it's about?

Steve, I'm not 100% legal either, never claimed to be, never pretended to be.... I love the illegal flights, e.g. 2.7 miles high! My point is we shouldn't go 'broadcasting' this or putting it on YouTube cos a) you will get found out and prosecuted and b) it gives the CAA and law makers more reason to ban it all.

All I know is I'm sick of the two-faced crap, the continuous changing of opinions and stuff in this community - it's the reason I left the modified car scene back in the day as well :laugh:
