Personally not too keen on seeing videos where people get dive bombed

2 videos I have seen over the last few days ( One from a mod) show people being startled( and actually cowering) by FPV model flying over. Sorry...I dont see frightening innocent passers by  as "fun" and I dont think it is good PR.

Mine was unintentional and not done for fun. It wasn't dive bombing either they just couldn't hear the motors for the high wind.

I forgot all about it after I saw it but I did also wonder why Coyote didn't divert his course into another part of the otherwise empty beach when he could see the people from hundreds of meters away, it looked for all the world like he aimed to fly close to them.  I mean FFS why would you not just keep a bit of distance especially where it would be trivially easy to do so?  No idea what other example he's seen and I think he was daft in the Z3 thread but skyscraper is dead right here IMO, it's not the sort of flying that will endear the hobby to anyone really.

Yes I purposely flew over to them, but with no intention of dive bombing or scaring them, as you can see seconds later I fly at the same height further up over a guy walking a dog who gives absolutely no attention to the plane at all, so it couldn't have been that low.

Fear not,  I will edit any other possible hints orf controversy from any following videos.

I think there's a world of difference between "divebombing" someone for fun (that's bad mm'kay) and happening to fly over someone.  The only issue here was that the walkers didn't hear the motors until it was on them, so sounded like something had just appeared - so the (ineffectual) duck reflex , otherwise they'd have probably turned sometime before and waved or something

If you're flying pretty low anyway and decide to fly right over someone then there's not a "world of difference" at all.  Anyway I've said enough and shall defy the  :censored:  clique no more.

How many people were actually on the beach? If I remember rightly it wasn't what I would call jam packed. Now I know that members of this forum would not fly low level over a beach full of people in the middle of summer.

Flying over a beach where there's max ten people at a height of 20 meters is in my opinion acceptable.

Aiming for the people rather than away from them.  Nothing to do with the choice of location.

I just thought you've got a massive empty beach so why aim for the people rather than just nudge it to the right and give them a wide berth.  If others think it's fine to do that then fair dos but I just don't get it.

Well... my observation was that he wasn't aiming for them, he was flying along the beach and they just happened to be on there. Let's get a bit of perspective here.

Was there a danger of them being hit? No, he was flying at least rooftop height.
Is the MTD a jarring, sudden noise? No, it uses large props spinning relatively slowly compared to say, a funjet / bixler etc.


You know what probably happened? They probably had a good laugh and a giggle like girls do while having fun walking along a beach - like most normal people do - then got one with their lives without giving it a second thought. Unlike us, who are analysing a non-event on a forum.

Is this the FPVHub equivalent of a Scooby Doo ending, were we finally get to unmask the Phantom Disliker? :laugh:

If the people being overflown are aware of you flying, and happy about it, I've got no problem with it.  If they aren't aware, then the CAA exemption for FPV flying says no closer than 50 metres (30 m if on a landing approach/take off):

When I´m flying I might "AIM" for a structure, does not mean to say I´m going to dive bomb it and hit it does it?

However it is abundantly clear that Coyote did NOT dive bomb those two girls on the beach. So what's all this crap about?
