Helps if you have an autopilot with cruise like the apm which holds its predetermined altitude. You can pull up and down all day long, it won't budge. This means you can take-off, hit cruise mode and then put your goggles on in a calm fashion. Then like the rest say, get to know your area you fly and have a mate with you.

Once you've built up confidence you will then do your own thing anyway. Oh yeah, easier said than done but don't panic.
