Following on from G's awesome design I wanted to try to make a 'none blunt-nose' version of the Wii Wing.

The original Wii Wing needed weight on the nose to hit CG.
So I used an online wing CG calculator & moved the motor placement forward & added the pointy nose.
I then added modern central vertical stabilizers & smaller winglets.

All these parts are hand cut so they are not nice as G's laser cut kit but they will do.

After a few prototypes I built the final versions in white depron, painted & added stickers.

They are ALOT of fun to fly - because there is very little weight to them they crash well!  :-)

Here is a 'hat-cam' video to show them flying...

Next step......FPV them of course...    :-)

It's all a lot of simple tricks and nonsense...

Fly's fantastic but, loving the new design.

Love your new design, iv just built a 800 version of Gordon's Wii Wing, I love flying them.
I had to put a 2200 battery on the front to get the COG correct and it needs a more powerful motor. I will post pics when I can find them.

What do people use as control rods on servos

pcnukem

Just use two pieces of wire bent to shape with a u shape in the middle to set the trim. I will take a couple of pics tomorrow and post them on here.

Ok thanks what gauge and where do u get it from.

pcnukem

sorry not sure what gauge it is.

I was gonna put pics of its big brother, an 800mm version but haven't had time been out flying.  Will post them tomorrow.

Just had a quick word with the boys on the engineering team working on the build.  They are working hard to have it ready for a maiden tomorrow, but have mentioned they've had to add 5g to the nose to hit the CG.  Sound about right ?

Badlands

Haha - great pic Wayne - I moved my lipo as far forward as possible & it still needed a little bit weight on the nose.

Your lipo looks further back because of the FPV gear so yea this looks good to go.

FPVing during the maiden? nice!

Well, the little Wii Wing flew and (after sorting out my rates I wasn't aware of) it flew well - I loved it.  Then bad cows came and spoilt my day.  A cautionary tale

! No longer available

I think I've found a better camera to use, I'll see if I can get hold of that and see if I can use the VTX half of the TX03 on it's own.

Sorry G, I didn't mean to mess up your lovely little wing

beesleyboy

Lol, "it looked great " santa will get you a nice new one soon. My first one had fpv gear on it, so it didn't need the extra whaght, perhaps I should tweek the design a little for LOS models.

Cracking video Wayne.

Does that little Frsky rx allow you to set a failsafe? The one im using https://hobbyking.com/en_us/frsky-vd5m-2-4ghz-5ch-micro-receiver-telemetry-capable.html doesn't.

Also I think those servos will be fine on 5v - ive never had one fail yet.

Im liking your motor choice - ordered a few myself now.
