I've got mine..
I've upgraded my Taranis to 2.2.2 but I can't seem to find any telemetry modes in the setup screens.

What did I miss?

When you select an external RF and use R9, your power settings should give you an option for 25mw with Telemetry (amongst others without it), so bind with that one and then go to the telemetry page in the model settings and select "find new sensors"  There's only 2, RSSI and rxbattery voltage

I've inadvertently ordered the non-EU version. (it was late and I "may" have had a beer prior)

I know I can change the firmware to the EU LBT version but will the frequency change mean that the antennas will also need to be changed?

atomiclama

I'd say yes.

It will still run with the antennas you have, just not as well.

I think I have the wrong length antennas, but want to test it out at range before I change them.

I'm looking into getting this as a cheap alternative to buying Dragonlink receivers, so much cheaper, and I'm not after crazy range because I have Dragonlink for that, it looks great for what I need.

Just not thrilled on flying on a nightly firmware, its one of those no no's you get drummed into your head. I hope they release a proper version soon that doesn't limit 868Mhz

Hi Ian,
Pleased with mine, it's a bit of a steal although I think the offer closed end Sept? You dont need 2.2.3 Companion just yet, you can run 2.2.2.  Wait for the Flex firmware to settle for adaptive RF sounds best to me.

RF power can be 25mw / 200mw / 500mw selectable at the TX. At this frequency, 500mw is a shed load TBH. You can select Telemetry or not, probably perform better without.
On 500mw, my Taranis can be heard humming quietly to itself, and the Module gets a bit warm too, but it will be interesting to see how far 25mw will go.
Swapping out RXs like the 2.4G XM Plus is a breeze,...easy..:)

I've finished doing a review video - not public yet because I'm trying to sort out a collaboration bit with another reviewer beforehand and he hasn't done his bit yet :)  But I thought I'd stick this here to show some of the weirdness I had.  Feel free to tell me I'm doing it all wrong of course.

500mW should be more than enough for my need, hearing the humming part of your reply gave me a sinking feeling. The only thing I really hated about the Crossfire was the humming, it drove me mad :(

It's a shame you can't adjust the power output via a switch like on EzUHF so if you need the high output power you can quickly step to it,

Hi Ian,
Well, i guess when the Flex Firmware is finalised and range improves, its doubtful you will see it (Auto) switch up into high output mode at all...?
When I say hum, it wasn't really all that bad, and if you use a Dipole antenna it will make no sound as the antenna will be further away from the speaker.

Hi ET, received mine the other day, cant get over how small the rx is !

The hum drives me nuts though, its bearable om 200mW but on 500mW too loud, annoying more than anything.

I'm going to start off with the 2.2.3 build and Flex firmware on my two Tricopters until its all finalized then look at putting it in the MyFlyDream.

I would like dynamic power selection like the Crossfire did but it looks as though that's not an option yet.

Just reading up and a very interesting point to not on potential buyers is people are getting confused on powering the R9M in a Taranis, believing that using a 3S lipo on the external input is a no no but if your Taranis is powered internally by a 3S lipo that's fine.

The more I read the more I realized this is not the case and you should not plug it in if you are using 3S in your Taranis ....... Ooops !

Looks like I'll have to fit a couple of 1N4001 diodes inline somewhere to drop it to under 12v.

You would think they would have designed it too, you know, being the manufacturers of the Taranis and knowing how many of us use 3S to power them.

  Hi Ian,
Im glad you brought this matter to attention, because I have a 2500mah 3S in mine also.
I was wondering myself how it worked exactly. It seems odd that it can happily run a 2.4G Bay Module though..?
Maybe the Taranis has a 12V regulator onboard?

Mine gets pretty warm on 500mw (and it smells rather hot too), but runs cold on 25 / 200mw..?

So, is it not a matter of RF power making it get hot, and perhaps a shabby TX antenna not helping..?

Be interesting to run it at 500mw with an external 2S plugged in to see if that helps..?

Ooops indeed!

Glad you pointed this out as I've recently switched my qx7 to use 3s li-ion.

Any idea what the max voltage is?

Ok, should have looked first. According to frsky site, max v-in is 12.6v which seems to tie up with 3s quite fine, right?
