Test fit to make sure everything fits and clears goes well, everything is clear of the body and mainly the carbon spar



Then a small snag ................

I fit the gopro quick release mount, and the airflow sensor for the APM



Then after wondering why the Gopro was so high and seemingly going to be right in the view of the FPV camera it dawned on me whats going on. The Gopro 3 case is attached via a quick release, this was so I could have a solid back base for strength in the nose, but that also meant it had to be quick release, the quick release setup is much higher than the permanent mount version ................. Fek ! :)

So something needs to be done there, never mind ...............

The glass like finish is not there on the body yet. This is because we have not sanded the varnish flat and polished it up yet, that is still to do.

Ian, I have an idea for mounting your WDR cam. but it means drilling (at least 2) holes in the back of your gopro protective case door.

cut out a bit of plywood, just a small rectangle big enough to mount the wdr cam to using the 4 holes (I used nylon standoffs) at one end, and at the other end mount the plywood to the back of the GoPro case door.

That`s a good idea Chris, but I have my WDR on a 360 servo to the rear, I`ll just have to either drop the Gopro further down, or raise the WDR up on the servo horn.

Its looking like raising the WDR a bit, not ideal, but cockup on my behalf

Or you could get rid of the mount and chop the lugs off the bottom of the gopro case. That would lower it and give you a flat bottom surface.

Following you so far, so then how would it be attached to the plane and how would I get the Gopro out of the case ?

Coyote, on my Bixler I have nose-mounted the GoPro using the case.

What I did was, saw off the nose :D

Then I glued one of the plastic mounts (without the base) into the foam, leaving only the hole visible for the case to be screwed onto. That way I can still use the case and quick-release.

Motor arrived very quickly from the states surprisingly. So OS 3825-750kv fitted with an APC thin 12x8 prop



It was a lot bigger than I imagined to be honest and weighs a fair bit too. Nicely made though.

Wings are all done now, we played around with a few ideas basically botching some smaller balsa ailerons but thankfully went against that idea. I took a trip up the my LHS and found some 2" ailerons which we cut, fitted with pin hinges ( 4 each aileron ) and painted up last night.

All done so Vtx and Telemetry went in :

I do like the correx idea I had to hold the Vtx and Telemetry in, no tape over the top of them, no glue, just using the shape of the cut correx to hold them in place.

Time for a maiden, with only bare essentials in it for the first flight. So here is the first picture of it 90% complete, but you get the idea of the paint scheme etc



Keith has also started adding Beeswax to the finish to get it super slippery. Taking this glide ratio as far as we can eh :)

The flight cam is not on yet, no GoPro on it, the APM is not in yet nor the Telefly OSD but they are on their bases ready to go in as soon as the maiden is done

Keith will be filming no doubt, bungee launches normally go one of two ways and neither make dull videos :)

Are you able to use other OSDs with the APM? Any reason why not to use the minimOSD?
