Whilst the winning finished plane is awesome, what I particularly enjoy and prefer about this Zeeflyboy Thread is that he is sharing with all of us the up's and down's of the 'journey' and learning curves to completing a project. Having not follwed the build step by step of the Russian winning jet I can't quite appreciate it as a project, as much as this AH-6Z.

The Russjet obviously is insanely good, but I find the F16 infinitely more impressive.... the Russjet was built by a whole team of professional engineers the guy hired, it was more like the development of a real (albeit tiny) plane than an rc model.

The F16 it appears was built by this guy alone, and building a jet engine without the use of CNC machines is just another level of crazy. I mean I know a centrifugal fan jet engine isn't the most complicated thing in the world, but it's still extremely impressive and seemingly carried out to an impeccable standard.

Obviously both are in a whole different league to what I am doing here, which is just building a simple model helicopter not even particularly to scale. I just wanted to point out that my "skills" are as nothing compared to that guy lol - I honestly believe that given the right resources there is nothing I have done that anyone else couldn't do if they had the motivation or desire... Indeed I've learned the vast majority of the stuff "on the go". Hopefully my threads inspire guys to give those projects a go that they have been thinking about but not sure whether they can do.

Ah, yeah I've watched the vid for the russjet one before, seriously impressive but as you say, it looks like a professional outfit.

I always like to stop into this thread just to marvel at the details, I've never built or flown heli's so I don't even know what most of the stuff you are talking about or making is, but it's always really nicely done! :D

I'm too impatient really so I always end up rushing my builds. I think a long term project would be good to try! You must have the patience of a saint to go to the level of detail here! I salute you man!

been a bit busy moving home lately!

Glad to report that the AH-6 has made it the 600 miles back home unharmed, but as you can see the garage has some sorting out to do lol.




Today I did however sneak away and machine the main shaft tail drive gear... Machining top side:




and bottom side:




and finished part (well just a hole to drill on the collar):
