I Lasercut the first version of the motor mount the other day, it consists of 4 parts; 2 firewalls bolted together and aligned using the ply spacer, and a raised motor mounting plate designed to be bolted onto by the X mount.

I've machined off the outer face on the plastic mount, which will sit around this assembly. The rear plate fits inside it :)



The ply spacer was a little too short, as it turns out that the internal face on the back isn't flat....
I also made the hole to pass the connectors through a little small, and found that I can't use the larger plate with X plate as it's too big for the inner diameter of the plastic housing.

I've just designed a new version, will cut it this afternoon :)

I've modified my TS800 5.8GHZ VTX, removing its cooling fan. Because of how I'm mounting it, the heatsink will be nicely in the airflow. I'm going to be fitting a temperature probe, as I don't want it to overheat when I'm on the ground. This will go into the OSD, with warnings based on values deemed acceptable from testing with the fan reconnected.



I've had to cut away at the foam a little - The bays are more designed for the long rectangular Lawmate type VTX units, whereas this has a central antenna output. This afternoon I'll cut some inserts to hold it in place :)

Done quite alot of work over the last few days. I've glued together the fuselage, and made cuts in the rear bay, and cut a space for the gopro.

I decided that the best place for the ESC to get some good airflow was to mount it on the outside, and have mounted it in the recess (For an undercarriage?).



Cables come out nicely in the area by the wing spar, and the motor cables toward the tail.

I've cut out the mount for the Gopro. The alloy housing has a detachable backing, but will be fixed to a tilt servo so I can have it pointing forwards or downwards.



I'm also going to be mounting a flight cam on the canopy. I've ordered a little video switcher, but I need to make sure that it all plays nice with the OSD pro.

Last post of today.

I've installed the high strength mounting for the battery bay. I will be replacing the zip tie with some bolts ASAP though, as the zip tie covers the hole that's there to allow me to screw in a hook.


I've finalised the design I'm using for the rear mount, and I've made a slight cutaway on the edges. This allows me to get the plate in and remove it now that the fuselage is glued together, and makes it easier to mount another plate for a battery in the back :) There's also space in each of the slots on the sides for 7 Servo connectors. There should've been 8, but I couldn't find my calipers so measured with a ruler, which wasn't accurate enough....


I've also modified my OpenLRS RX into a "Low profile" setup, have replaced the pins with 90 degree ones, and added a servo connector to the telemetry pins.

Thanks, and hopefully :) Elogger has several temp. probe ports, so may fit a thermometer to it too :)

I just need the rear shelf... a sheet of G10 is going to cost me £10 from ebay, but it's going to look like a toddler's cut it out... ideally i'd need someone with a cnc or laser cutter to cut it for me, but I've got a few other things I'll want cutting too, so I'll be trying to draw something in either sketchup or inkscape... I don't have fancy software :(

After a slight delay in the project, the Skywalker X6 flew yesterday!

It's had a few changes to the spec:

Frsky X8R RX (Temp, still using OpenLRS)
200mW 5.8GHz VTx (Temp, have a ImmersionRC 2.4GHz to fit)
10x6e APC Prop
5200mAh 4 s Multistar (Will be looking into fitting a second, but need to fit the GoPro in the nose to resolve weight issues.)
85A ESC.

This thing is nuts, the vertical performance is unreal. It did have my OSD pro equipment fitted (No FPV, but it did log the flight). There was a GPS glitch, the actual true top speed was 87.2 MpH - Still pretty fast, and with FPV, I know I can get it faster. The Multistar pack isn't enough for sustained WoT - I could hear the low voltage alarm in the glide after while the voltage crept back up.
