Hi All!
Roll up, roll up for the hottest meet in South East England, or the coldest as the case may be.
The water will be turned off at the club house, so number 1's in the bushes. Tea and coffee, hot chocolate and Gluhwein available and BBQ facilities.
Bring heaters, hot water bottles etc. and let me know if you'd like to sleep over on a stretcher in the clubhouse the night before or after.
Who's coming?
Richard
Me :D
I don't think I'll be staying though.... sounds too cold.
(You've also written September 30th, and my DeLorean has broken down at the mo - November yes ?)
Alright, November then if you prefer :)
Sign me up. Hope your going to be doing more flying than fixing this time rich!
Count me in :)
& me.
You've done it again Rich, a Saturday and I'm working >:(. Is it on the Sunday as well?
Cheers, Mark
Come on Mark... You know you can - there's lots of time to switch days my good man!
Otherwise, pull a sicky! :)
I always set Mad Dogs up for just after payday for good reason, least of which is I can afford nice cookies :)

Yep and no one ever wants to swap and they are really clamping down on sickies at the moment.

Do you have an address for this club?
Club in this case refers to the cricket clubhouse where we fly from (and charge lipos/make coffee) It's in Great Haseley in Oxforshire
I'm in!

Hi All
We've previously discussed this and I think it's time to get the ball rolling at Mad Dogs 5.
This is an open invitation to any Suppliers or Distributors of FPV goods to come and showcase your wares at the meet. Uptake is normally slow at the beginning but once word gets out, we normally end up with 12 - 15 flyers and a couple of spectators. 30th November will be cold, but that never deterred us last year and most will agree it was about the best Mad Dogs meet we've had, which resulted in some excellent frosty footage from all.
This should not be seen as a sales opportunity so much as to be available to field questions on your offerings and bring equipment in for people to oogle at (or buy if they wish) and generally come and meet the community you serve on the web.
The intention for next year's Spring and Summer meets is to grow to 20 or more pilots and spectators, be more organised, have t-Shirts and Sweat Shirts available to purchase (for dirt cheap) and have a more organised flight line, separating frequencies and I'll be investing in ground station flags etc. again to aid in organisation ensuring a safe and fun day for all.
Please respond here, or PM me your interest.
Richard
Hi guys,
EFPV will be happy to pop along with some wares & the offer of any help with aircraft setup &/or Fpv flying.
We could bring a few items that will ease those chilly winter days out in the field too!
We'd also like to bring some of our aircraft to demo, plus possibly a piece of exciting & exclusive EFPV equipment.... All will be revealed!
I had better break out all my "favours" and see if I can come along. I'd love to! I'll keep you posted.
A quick example of last years meet, although not a brilliant video, but we had a nice clear and frosty day

Here's my Twinstar maiden on the 1st December 2012 - I reckon we'll have as good weather and tip top sunsets et al.
Who else has video of Winter 2012 at Mad Dogs?

Right, so far this is the line up:
1. CurryKitten
2. Flyboysee
3. Davey LC
4. CharlieWalker
5. Skyscraper
6. Hase2
7. Flyn
8. Krikey
9. Brucey
If anyone is interested in doing Christmas Common return (from Great Haseley, or the other way around wind permitting) which is a 10km flight and County to County please let me know so I can help you prep. I'm keen to do that flight with someone tandem. Who's in? I'm on DL UHF and 2.4 video.
By the way, there's a reasonably good 3G signal there (best on Orange) - does anyone have the tech to do a livestream?
Also, who can be in charge of nagging Coyote to come like on a daily basis until he cracks and says yes? We need an FPV celebrity :)
Any other fun ideas?
:flying:
Place for six more flyers.
Im half way there in terms of kit to do long range as I now have EZUHF but only 5.8 video so will probably manage 3-4km. I'm dabbling with the tech for live transmission, following Coyotes testing the other day, so I could have something working.

Hmm.... tempted by the 10km run. Be a good chance to test my new helical.

Whilst I look forward to flying passenger on a 10km again, perhaps it would be useful to mark out routes for a safe short-distance runs. Those of 3-5km where we have good landmarks to use, and safe areas to ditch/retrieve (just in case). Would be cool to get some personal bests in a nice safe environment where we know where we should be - and have someone to correct us.
Or just have a few people shouting different directions - as in your 10km video :D
Good idea, but the routes will depend on the wind direction on the day.
I'll bring my gps tracker for anyone that wants to borrow it on the day.

Great idea and one we've had before. Not sure if it was managed at the last meet. There's plenty of space to the East and North of the field which is then also away from the village. I do like the idea of a good old fashioned race though.
How about quadcopter lifting competitions, not in terms of weight but in terms of the ability to snag an object and carry it mack. CurryKitten mentioned this last time and I did a quick test out on my local playing field. Its harder than it looks especially with a single cord dangling from the bottom.

It's on the Saturday, but we always reserve the Sunday in case the Sarurday weather is bad. No sleep overs due to cold, but there is space in the club house.
Not sure how many (if any) would stay for a double dose on the Sunday.
Either way, it would be great to have you along!

I'm well up for a race around some obstacles :D
LOL..a start line and a finish... (?)
krikey and myself did have a circuit planned out where the emphasis was going inbetween a few obstacles and getting down really low. It was fantastic.. but for the fact that we realised it went over where everyone parks up, and that probably wasn't such a great idea. I think it can be made safe with a few tweaks though - I'll try and have a quite draw on google maps later with a suggested route
We could all take it in turn to stand in the field and be the objects? :D :P
Or does anyone fancy chipping in for some large Helium balloons? Popping those would be a good challenge :)

Great Stuff, please do it if you're keen. Have a chat with Wayne (CurryKitten) about a possible route. I can get some pipe lagging (like the american woggles, but grey) for markers. Might be an idea to have those as pylons but they'll need to be installed on a pole or the like...? Also, would they be visible with CCD cameras? Maybe that and baloons?

Dave always hits something/someone whether we are racing or not :D
Here's my proposed route, it's pretty simple just a little circuit where we use the edge of the main field as markers and a few trees/bushes as markers to go between.

Looks perfect. How many laps then?
As regards rules, I would suggest that if there is a mid air then anyone involved must land immediately and go through all their usual preflight checks before continuing. Not for safety really .. just to discourage the more suicidal racers
I would also suggest that to qualify for a medal you will need to record your race flight. That may however be a problem if you dont have recording equipment but maybe that can be solved.
regards
Andy
Okay, this is very simple!
I will do a slow flight of the course and post up a video so everyone can get familiar with it ahead of the time. You can practice on the day as much as you want.
I will give advice on how low you can expect to go between the trees before Fresnel kicks in and I'll have a go at speed as well, so you can judge ahead of time how much faster your plane will be than my Penguin (which actually needs a repair before I can do this survey flight).
CK, I love the course, but could we not extend it a bit to about 1km? Perhaps same starting position but fly to road, then turn right following road all the way to 2nd hedge, then a right along the tree line to the lakes and then diagonal back to the field? maybe I'll fly a few sorties, post up the vid and then we decide? Could be more interesting with a longer flight, but in the right 1km zone so most vtx's and frequencies can make it? Just thinking, and now finally, filled with excitement for FPV again :)
On the day you can show your recorded video OSD footage to Andy (Skyscraper) and he will record the times of your lap and set a few rules ahead of time like whether it's a rolling start and whether it includes a landing or whatever, judge whether boundaries have been crossed etc. (you okay with this Andy?).
Perhaps one of our Suppliers or Distributors coming along could sponsor a prize for fastest lap of the day? :)
In this config we don't need any props, balloons etc. - all natural boundaries!
Gimme an Amen?
This sounds like a great idea - I'm sure we could put up a little somit in the means of a prize.
I think 1km is too far personally as if anyone crashes (and we're expecting there to be crashes) its going to be a long haul to pick up the many pieces. Most regular MD goers know these boundaries and it takes 30-45 seconds to complete that circuit from what I recall, unless you use a wing :)
Now my mind is thinking NFC chips on the planes and tall receivers on pipe lagging so we can make it more official :) Whats the bean radius for NFC?
In the absence of NFC tech I'm sure we'll all have fun regardless :)
Yep. I agree with krikey. The course as it is looks fine to me.
regards
Andy
That looks like it could be fun, if only you weren't so friggin far away.

Er.. I'm the judge. Like all judges my decisions may sometimes seem "erratic"... unduly Favourable to some ... and ... Unfavourable to Others.. Some people may get mysteriously disqualified. Some peoples aircraft may be judged to be in need of checking by scrutineers in Siberia 5 seconds before the start...

Chris, something like -
Fuel £80
Repair bill for plane after Davey rams it £20
Flying around with a bunch of like minded people - priceless
Not that I'm suggesting that bignose13 should offer multiple prizes, but as the long range will most probably be taken by someone on 1.2/2.4 video and 433 control. Let's keep a record for all the combinations. 2.4/433 control 1.2/2.4/5.8 video and combinations of the two... just for fun, and also if someone has the same combination as you but can go way further, then you can have a look/chat to see what he's done to eek out that little bit extra

Andy, I've taken you off the list for now, but please decide soon if you change your mind.
Cheers
Richard
Thanks. I hope someone else can fly now..
I could get a plane flying but I would like try to address this issue that caused the crash. I would like to sort things so that my RcTx detects loss of video and automatically puts the plane into RTL mode. Shouldnt be impossible. Just need to route video from AT via my Rc transmitter to the goggles rather than AT straight to goggles. ( and detect maybe hsync and or vsync but there are some standard I'C's to do that) Also want to get my AV audio modem done so I have redundancy in the telemetry for the tracker. It came in quite handy not being tied to video in this case. So quite a bit to be getting on with. And I still havent tsested the Orange OpenLRS to any distance yet either so not entirely sure of it...
I assume I can always turn up as a spectator though?
regards
Andy
I think turning up as a spectator would be worth while. See other people's view on fpv and take away a few good ideas. I've learnt some good things both times I've been and I hope others have learnt something from me too.
I'm with CurryKitten on the race specced plane. My AXN has seem some action, most of it involving hitting the ground hard. Its now my "chuck it in the sky and see what happens" plane.
I'm not expecting to win but I'll have a damned good go at getting some crazy footage of the experience.
NOOOOOOO Disaster !!! Just noticed i have my old man down that weekend, He is staying at mine so i cant make it.... Cr@p

Andy
Sorry, just saw this, it would be great to have you there! You're on the list! http://www.fpvhub.com/index.php/topic,16519.msg138594.html#msg138594 (http://www.fpvhub.com/index.php/topic,16519.msg138594.html#msg138594)
Hi guys,
Efpv are more than happy to sponsor the FPV race event.
We'll be putting up for grabs a voucher code of £35 for you to spend on anything you wish at EFPV,- we'll even throw in a T-shirt for you as well.
We're hoping you speed freaks out there tune up your craft for the fastest possible race times! We wonna see fast !!!
NOTAM no. 2 - COMPETETIONS
Thanks to Bignose13 and EFPV for sponsoring the two comps / challenges!
Guys, please let me know who's entering the;
1. Long Distance Record
2. Speed Trials
Give me plane type, battery cells, frequency etc.
Remember, you must record your flights on a GS recorder to verify your distance flown / speed and time.
Prizes up for grabs are a Bignose13 Helical Antenna for the Long Distance Record, and a £35 store voucher and T-Shirt from EFPV for the Speed Trials.
Richard
I think everyone should enter both competitions. Be boring if people only entered if they thought they could win. If someones best distance is 100m, get them to try for 200m and smash their PB. Give everyone a slot reserved so they can fly their distance attempt and speed record - make sure these are the only people flying on those freq when they make their attempts
I can't really commit to plane types - distance attempt will probably be Bix 2, 3s, 2.4 control, 5.8 video (where I'm looking for 3km) - and speed an AXN with the same... or maybe my Falcon if I've finished it
The Racing is one thing because a crash will just be a crash, the plane will no doubt be recoverable in some form and no one is likely to get hurt and if they did chances are it would be one of us and we're all consenting adults :D...
But the long distances poses all sorts of other risks so it should only really be done if someone is 100% comfortable and confident in their air-frame :)

But the long distances poses all sorts of other risks so it should only really be done if someone is 100% comfortable and confident in their air-frame :)
I'll amend then to everyone should be given the opportunity to try a long distance run - where long distance is a few 100m for some and 15km to others. Obviously, whether they attempt or not is up to them, confidence in airframe/themselves etc
Ahhh like 'classes' :D
That could be interesting :) could always base it on factors like TX power, OSD, AP etc.
Class A <= 100mW, no OSD, no AP..
Class B <= 100mw OSD and/or AP.
Class C >= 100mw no AP.
Class D >= 100mw AP.
Class E >= 500mw no AP.
Class F >= 500mw AP.
? :D
No, there's too many combos once you add in different classes based on control freq and video freq as well. The long distance compo is purely for long distance, but I'm just saying - if people want to try for their own PB, it's a good environment to do so. Lots of people around to ride passenger, someone (Richard) who knows the surrounding countryside well - and potentially more people who could help find and recover as well :D

Yes, and if worse come to worse, Rich can take over, run your lipo down and then land in the wrong field
....You missed 'and hit the only rock in the whole field' ;D
So are the comps now
1. Distance
Perhaps the classes should be as simple as lipo size/cell count as this does tend to determine a lot of things, even if you bring along a great glider designed for minimal power usage, remember that it wont punch through the air on the upwind leg as well anyway so horses for courses.
2. Speed trials
With the speed trials, will we be racing two planes in the air at the same time or will it be just one at a time? I think it should be at least two but no more than 4 and staggered starts with independent timers for each plane. Think the Motorsport Rally. This gives you a target to aim for as you're whizzing round and might be able to catch up with the guy/gal in front, but also provides enough distance to reduce the chances of hitting each other at the start.
Speed trials wise - it can still be a pain for more than two to fly without ghosting when we're close in - the overhead of getting more than 1 timer might be an issue as well. I feel the more workable options are - 1) go on your own, fly 3 laps, best one is your time. or 2) knock out heats, we draw two people against each other, at the shout of go they both launch, do 3 laps, winner goes through.
One possible issue with number 2 (although it sounds the most fun and doesn't require timing) is if someone on 2.4 control is drawn against someone with 2.4 video
Im defo down for the speed challenge. Hope we get some decent gusts of wind. ;D
Ill happily do the results video if we all ground record our laps, ill bring my DVR.
To make it easier and quicker on the day maybe we should have passengers for each racer with a stop watch who can tell us rough lap times and make sure the racer is following the track and not cutting corners. Aslong as we don't have any very close times that should be accurate enough. Then ill do the "official" exact times with the GS recordngs. Just a thought.
Ill be flying EZUHF and IRC 5.8 ch 5. ;D
Can I suggest an additional speed event? a 1km dash. You take off and fly 1km in one direction and return. Timer starts when you take off and stops when you land. That one is a bit easier to measure and I think it introduces a few extra elements. It's not only about who has the fastest plane but the combination of the quickest launch and landing. It also means you don't have to risk flying wing to wing with another plane if you don't want to.

I think that's another great idea - really hope we get the weather/time to do them all
Yes I like that challenge too, great idea.
Landing has to be survivable and in the correct field tho right? :P
Otherwise id sacrifice Daves wing and lawn dart it.
Ok so to make the 1km dash more exciting, how about we define a square that you have to land in or near. The further away you are the bigger the penalty.
So for example the landing square/target is 2m x 2m (ive got 10m of webbing tape to mark out a square) for every full metre out we add 10 seconds to your time?

Yes, great idea... although see above for not crashing. Your plane must be in perfect shape after your landing
Can we define 'Perfect Shape' please? ;D
Can we just say 'Flyable'? ;D

Or treat it like a spot landing, use a cross and the closest first touch wins. Thats usually fun and results in a few sudden 'i-gonna-oveshooot-dives'
Chris
1km out and back sounds good, but we need to define the landing element. Is it where your plane touches down, or where it ends up stopping after sliding? Just thinking after Dave's landing last time, those two positions were some distance a part!
Think we need a virtual landing strip with a target, and the closer to come to rest the better. Merely touching down and then slighting 20meters is no good :)

You certainly can mate, but this event we are doing comps with prizes. Can you find a sponsor for it?
Guys I suggest we 'free fly' from morning till say 2pm, then kick off with challenges. I will look for two more sponsors...
Lets do the speed trial and long range as individuals, keeping the airwaves clean.
As to spot landings and speed dash, the same, but let me canvass some sponsors first.
As to classes etc. I think not - will be too complicated. Fastest plane / farthest distance wins.
Richard
Events don't *need* prizes, just a bit of fun to all take part in.
I do also have my grappling hook and a soup can for "lift up a can in teams of multicopters". Which may need a slightly snappier title.
May not be time for everything even without grappling hooks. Keep it loose and play it by ear I think.
Bring the grapples along as we could always keep that in reserve if needs be.
Uh, will there be enough daylight for all this fun?
Doesnt really matter. I think as long as we can aim to have one event, the others are a bonus/surplus to requirements.

Here's my proposed route, it's pretty simple just a little circuit where we use the edge of the main field as markers and a few trees/bushes as markers to go between.

Comments/changes/etc welcome
Looks perfect. How many laps then?
As regards rules, I would suggest that if there is a mid air then anyone involved must land immediately and go through all their usual preflight checks before continuing. Not for safety really .. just to discourage the more suicidal racers
I would also suggest that to qualify for a medal you will need to record your race flight. That may however be a problem if you dont have recording equipment but maybe that can be solved.
regards
Andy
That's pretty much the course I flew, except using the end corner of the field as the last marker.
As to stop and start I dunno - Maybe launch to a stop at your feet or just in front of you which will mean accuracy in landing as well. Doing a flying start might be contested because you may not see your start line from the air easily.
???
Why not make the cricket strip the takeoff and landing .. must land on the strip (i.e. runway)

It's all fenced off to protect the grass Steve - else it would have been quite useful. I think it would be our last meet there if we started marching all over the "good bit". Krikey is bringing his roll of tape to pin on the ground which is pretty visible form the air

I think the local club would go nuts if we tore it up :D plus its enclosed in a mesh fence when its not in use which would actually make it quite interesting.. at least the mesh would catch the bits of foam :D

Hi Ed
We cut off a few weeks back but please come along if you're keen. You may just have to wait for a clear spot to fly (but no guarantee if it's a busy spectrum, wouldn't be fair on the chaps who booked in time), or just chill and meet the lads - should be a good day.

Let's face it, it's gonna be cold. The clubhouse will be a good refuge, but we need some electric heaters.
I have one and will bring it.

Hi - don't worry Flyboysee - I'm aware I missed the cut-off and will happily stand aside - I'm coming along in the hope for a spare slot / moment but as much for meeting everyone and learning as well. I'll bring the donuts - with the chilly wind we're going to need the calories. :snowman:

Hope to see you there Tom!
I bought about 10 different light gloves off eBay and this type is the best. light enough to fly on the sticks with and also light enough to keep on when setting up plane, plugging in batteries etc... they have a grippy rubberised surface on the palm side and a mesh on the backside. they are not gonna keep your hands warm for ages but if the rest of you is wrapped up well it takes a lot of the edge off and can fly for a lot longer before you freeze up.

Hi guys, just wondering if EFPV are still attending this weekend?
Will they have a trade stand or be bringing any stock with them??
I don't know really - it seems Rich might be pulling our sponsorship for some unknown reason & he won't talk to us about it, we've tried to talk to him but have heard nothing back.
It's starting to look like we won't be attending in any form... shame :( :(
That's disappointing.
I was hoping it would be an opportunity to see and buy some new stuff as well as meeting other fpv'ers to swap ideas etc.
Maybe Rich has to be careful not to commercialise this get-together?
Yea you know what they say about mixing business with pleasure :(
That's totally fair enough & we understand but our sponsorship & presence was requested.
Im sure there will be a good reason why you haven't heard back from Rich, he is a very reasonable guy. Prob busy with work or something.
I for one hope you do come, and bring some display products. I can understand if you cant sell stuff there but showing off your products is fine id of thought.
I wana see your tracker and winter tent thingy. ;D

Maybe Rich has to be careful not to commercialise this get-together?
Hasn't the meet been commercialized the second sponsoring and prices have been accepted?
I personally don't see the difference there.
The money is to cover the club house :) commercial = profit :)

Exactly, +1 to that
My phone calls & messages are not being returned. Something is going on here....
Come on Rich, we're happy to attend & provide sponsorship for your event as you have asked us to. We really have no interest in taking over or turning it into a mass market. All we wanted to do was come down & fly with some cool guys, showcase some of our kit & maybe bring a few items for people to have a look at & possibly buy if they asked us for them.
If we wanted to sell loads of gear we have a website, Facebook & eBay etc for that.
We just wanted to come out & play :(
Lets give him a chance :) He does work for him self and has a family so I guess his life is pretty hectic.

I'm aware of the entry fee.
I was actually referring to the prices for the competitions.
It is a bit of a tricky one really, though I don't belive, that anyone would think that he HAS to buy something, just because there is a stall with things.
I mean, we are all experienced modellers, that know, where to get our shit and what to pay for.
I think we should avoid this topic... Rich is a great guy and dedicated to this hobby, he's organised many successful meets at his own cost, there's no agenda... In my books he's a top bloke!
Lets just assume he's busy until he confirms otherwise? :)
Can't make it due to work :censored: Have a great time guys.
Regards, Mark

Yes of course we know he's a top bloke & we're more than happy to do whatever is asked of us.
It should be a good meet & we're happy to be a part of it in any way we can ;)
Hi guys. Well this thread had been tarnished pretty bad now.
The whole point of the Mad Dogs meets were members meeting up and having a fly together. It is not a commercial event, it never has been. It is always conducted with high spirits and a lot of time and effort put in by Richard.
It is Richards event and I fully respect that he does not want it sponsered or to have stalls present because that is totally not what the event is about at all.
Simon offered up some antennas as a price, on high spirit, not wanting anything back, no plugs etc to bring a bit of fun and incentive to the challenges. He was not a sponor, nor was a store getting setup or sale tents being setup.
Wanting the event to be in association with a company is the wrong thing to do, it's not in association with anyone. It's a group of like minded people getting together for a fun fly day.
If you want an EFPV fun fly day then set one up. Build your meets up, pay for food, pay for facilities, pay for rent and go from there. Do not pressure someone to climb on their back to take credit for something you have had no part at all making what it is today.
Mad Dogs meet is in association with no body, sponsered by no-one. It's a public get together of members from this forum to have fun.
Business has absolutely no part to play in this meet.
Ok so we got to talk to Rich & all is now good, the rumour mill is officially shut down!
We ARE still sponsoring the speed trials challenge & are happy to do so - a promise is a promise, we're not letting anyone down there! ;)
We WILL be attending the event & as stated previously we'll be there to hang out chat & have a good day out & hopefully fly some cool stuff with some good company.
Happy days!! Looking forward to it - we were just worried we were no longer welcome ;)
Yay
:grouphug:
Hi Guys
This is getting completely out of hand! The way this 'situation' is escalating is ridiculous and I for one am feeling slightly offended and taken advantage of, and I now realise that the 'experiment' of having two sponsored events was possibly a mistake.
Some history:
Mad Dogs has been going for about two years now and all of the pilots who attend regularly are about as FPV mad as I am. This is our 5th meetup in Great Haseley, and as far as events go, it has become one of the more regular and popular ones. We always have a great time, meeting new people and learning a lot from each other and the videos that follow are testament to that and the great time we generally have despite the weather etc.
This time round, since various people suggested some competitions I wrote a blurb on this thread inviting suppliers to sponsor a prize. Bignose13 came forward as well as EFPV. Bignose13 committed to supplying a helical and CP set for the distance challenge (value of approximately £30) and EFPV agreed to sponsor the speed lap prize in the form of a £35 gift voucher for purchases on their web shop.
That is all that was agreed.
As I write this I'm not sure if any new posts are made since it's running out of control, but I can say I called Rory and stated my position and that I was not comfortable as previously discussed and we are now at the understanding that the speed trial prize is still on offer and that he will attend as a pilot.
This is the first time I believe there has ever been anything written on a Mad Dogs thread that is negative / or in disagreement and I'd like it to be the last.
Looking forward to seeing everyone on Saturday. Please if there are cancellations please let us know asap as there are a couple of pilots waiting in the wings.
Richard

We did discuss an in association with at first but it was clearly decided against early on & that was fine & all agreed with that. But sponsorship was still requested.
Sponsorship has obviously been used by all as the wrong term in this case hence the confusion obviously arising. When you ask an individual or a company to donate a prize that's one thing - if you approach that individual or company asking for sponsorship that is something completely different.
We were approached with a request of sponsorship of the event so we initially took that as a want for a partnership & a corporate presence - but as is completely apparent now this is not the case & everyone is fine with that after a few crossed wires due to this misunderstanding of the terms & what was being asked of us.
We had no intention to tarnish anything we were just after clarification on our position - we had not heard from Rich about this, however we have that now & after getting to talk to Rich & all is as it should be - sorted.
We're very sorry to hear you think we're pressuring anyone to do anything they don't want to in ANYWAY WHATS SO EVER or climbing on anyone's back who didn't want the company to be a part of their event. We thought we were asked that is the only reason!
As I said we were approached to sponsor the event & at first we took that to mean a partnering up & a request for our presence & us offering a prize - but this was further discussed & was not the case which is fine, as stated above we have better more efficient ways of marketing & selling.
We were invited along & were just really happy & excited to a part of such a cool event that was all. Sorry if It seemed otherwise.
We are happy to DONATE a prize to the event as requested & to come down to just have some fun as we discussed.
Again sorry for any confusion caused with different ends of sticks being grabbed, no malaise, ill intent or anything else untoward was indented - we were just acting as we thought we had been asked to.
As I turns out what we were being asked of was different to what we thought we were being asked of pure & simple.
Thank you for taking the time to write the response Rory.
That should be the matter nipped in the bud now and the fun can now commence :)
No problems bud,
I'm looking forward to the weekend in whatever guise we attend.
Really wonna see who claims the high speed prize!
Oops, just realised I hasn't paid yet! Sorted that now Rich, looking forward to it!

Would like to attend as a spectator if that's ok. Won't get my first quad until xmas but would like to pop down and see what it's all about. Is this ok?

Don't know if it helps anyone but I won't be taking part in speed or distance comps (I havn't got the kit for either) just general flying, so if that lets someone else have a go glad to help.

Guys
Is anyone interested in owning a very good and well built bungee launcher (with plane side hooks and accessories).
I've moved home and simply don't have space (or a large wing) to justify having it.
I bought it for £45 and giving away to whoever wants it. Let me know and I'll bring it on the day. That, or the skip...
Richard
That's a great deal... I'd have it if I had the space. Stick it up on classifieds if you haven't already.
hmm I'd be interested in the launcher. got a 60inch wing it might help with. bring it down I'll take a look. can't promise to buy though but worth a punt.

Hi Richard - launcher available? yes yes yes please!!! will swop it for some doughnuts / hot coffee / soup ....you name it!
I'm after a way to lauching my underpowered X8 solo without losing a hand...so v.v. keen
will be with you on Sat as a spare pilot on the off-chance of a no-show from the paid-up team. You'll spot me as the tall bloke asking the dumb questions :D
Rich, If there was ever a worthy cause for the Launcher its definitely Ed :D

We'll get you doing some long range flights on Saturday ;D
Cool, I'll bring the launcher.
Davey, how many days now? :)
Hmmm let me see...

Its a long way for you to go just to feel like shit tho, so understandable. Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks to Richard for the organisation and the invite.

All together lads.........for he's a jolly good fellow...for he's a jolly good fellow....etc etc
A big thank you to Richard for organising this event.
Although a fair way for me, I really enjoyed the day,and managed to not disgrace myself too much in the speed trial.
Now looking forward to Ratty's video mix !
Chris
Yes - what a fantastic meet, excellent facilities & a great bunch of lads!
BIG thanks to Rich for organising it.
Had fun kite chasing...

Great pic, looking forward to your video
Fantastic day Richard. Thanks for being the impeccable host for the day and putting me up for the night. Very kind. Well done to CurryKitten and Brucey for winning the two competitions on the day. the speed trials were great fun.
Another fun day - great to meet some new people, and chat to some familiar faces again.
The racing was a real highlight, I hope everyone else enjoyed it as much as me - my poor little AXN was so slow around the course though :) Never mind, it's the taking part that's the most fun.
My only complaint was that the damn winter days are just too short.
Hi Guys!
Thanks again for an awesome meet!
As always I sucked in a lot of ideas and inspiration.
A very big thanks to all who came and travelled far to get there!
A special thanks goes out to Everything FPV for the Speed Trials prize and Bignose13 for the Longest Distance prize.

Now, looking forward to the videos :) Please post up here!
I forgot about the distance trials :) what were the results?
We had an overwhelming response for the distance competition: myself and CurryKitten (Wayne). My Skywalker bugged out at around 1.2km and I limped home with shame painted all over my face and CK did a respectable albeit safe 2.1km on FrSKy 2.4gHz.
I think we would have had Flyboysee as a contender but he decided to land in a bench!!!! Personally I think CurryKitten Jinxed him as I glanced over when Richard was flying and Wayne was dancing around a mannequin which looked remarkably like Richard chanting some funny song whilst wearing what looked like a voodoo mask.
So the prize went to CurryKitten. Well done Wayne.
I wish I'd entered :(
You snooze, you lose people :D I only went out on a mission to set a poor 2.4/5.8 distance, and I failed at my target of 3km, as fear took over as all the ground details of fields and roads looked the same... and then my home arrow was pointing the wrong way.
I actually went slightly further than I thought... and extra 300m or so whilst we had a discussion about where I actually was and where I needed to turn around to.
Are you talking round trip distances too?? :|
Quote from: DaveyLC on December 01, 2013, 10:45:32 AM
Are you talking round trip distances too?? :|
Eh ? So 2457m was my furthest distance from home... and then I came back (you had to make it back again :D) Not sure what you mean, obviously we're ignoring the 8.3km in the top left as that's just total distance travelled
Sorry, I didn't realise that was a max distance recording :D didn't see the Total distance up the top left :D
Big thanks to Rich for everything as always, and to all who came and mad it another great meet.
Hopefully will get some editing done today. Just waiting on some clips to be sent over from the bag man himself. ;D

thank you Richard for organising a great day - I'm glad my X8 could provide some entertainment - with the very generously donated launcher, I'm sure it will be up in the air in no time again - but after flying Chris' bixler I might tone down the ambition for a while.

Argh...I cant import that avi file into Vegas!
Me either ^^^^ :'(
Also, I have everyones race footage apart from GliderPiots, does anyone have a recording of it? Ground or onboard is fine.
Oh shoot! Can anyone convert it? Or let me know what formats will work in Vegas - I could render again.
Ratman, I've just cut you all the Go Pro footage at the middle trees which will work well in your vid, but... it's AVI :(
Can anyone suggest what I should do?
Ahh damn, I thought AVI files were ok. I know MP4 and WMV both work, not sure what else.
Ive converted the Maddogs intro using windows movie maker to a WMV file. Only took a few seconds to do. Now works in Vegas. Ill upload to dropbox now.
See if this works. I uploaded it to out old shared Maddogs folder.

If you have to convert set highest quality, the intro has taken a dive :)
n1 Ratty - it works!
:-)
No worries guys.
Thanks Rich. Don't think I get much choice when converting, it always loses some quality. Think WMV isn't quite as good as AVI either so prob lose a bit more. Ill double check tho. ;D
Might be worth re-rendering the start sequence in higher quality if you get time?
I didn't do that much flying at this meet so I haven't got very interesting footage :( but I have cobbled something together:

That was incredible footage of the Kite - also great to see such low and unusual perspectives of the area. Superlative!
Brilliant videos lads.
A pity it was so cold. Very interesting to see fpv done properly! All I need to do now is train tune my KK2.0 Quad to fly as smoothly as Badlands Quad & VTail, so smooth at very low level! I suspect some smaller props might be the answer to increase the disc loading a bit and hopefully reduce the gust sensitivity.
Thanks to Richard for organising. Must pay attention and register in time for the next one!
Andrew
Here's my cut of a few very random bits and bobs I collected. It doesn't quite all gel together, but such is the nature of a meet up. Despite the crashes, I had many many laughs trying to get my AXN in the air in an attempt to launch a little toy parachute guy. It actually worked once... but that was a practice, and we didn't have Neil in the air as the chase plane to film it. Bigger prop and ESC needed I think

CK, those views on your distance attempt were awesome. The weather goods were shining down on you for that. I couldn't spot our field tho haha. :o

Brill video Badlands, fantastic Kite footage, I'm really jealous!!!!

Nice one Rat-Man.
Hey am I just lucky with my 5.8 or something? It seems to be the most solid link out of the lot? :o
Thanks, it was recorded on my GS with patch. Others I was standing infront of my GS or recorded on skews.
Ah K :D
So when is the next one Rich? :D

When? Indeed!
I dunno, the problem with this time of year is that the days are so short. Maybe we should wait until Spring 2014 when the day's are longer and it's warmer, then do a full on Saturday and Sunday with camping and BBQ etc... That would make it either the 29th, 30th of March or the 26th, 27th of April.
What does everyone else think?
Richard
Cant wait :D
I'm possibly going to be in China in April but we'll see :)
April should be warmer.
Great videos.
Schedule it and they will come </wistful voiceover>
Whilst on the subject of future ideas, some of us were talking about the idea of being a bit more rigid about flying slots... that is literally having slots for people.
Our thought was that we'd simply have a whiteboard with names on in order of flight. Up to 20 minute slots, when one person is done, the next goes on and then the guy that was flying goes back on the end of the list...and we repeat.
This is a little bit about not seeing someone's shoe in your goggles when you are a few km out, but mostly about ensuring everyone gets a fair chance to fly on their own terms - and I would hope encourage lots of other people to gather round and watch the person who's flying at the time. I know I feel a lot safer with a few other people around me in goggles when I'm flying and suddenly can't figure out where I am !
Thoughts/feedback/insults welcome as ever
Its a shame some of the VTx's piss all over the band :(
I do like the idea of slots especially to ensure no issues, however what I think we should allow is people to decide to "double up" in their slot so for instance, if myself and Wayne want to fly, Wayne books a 20 min slot for me and him and then I book a 20 min slot for myself and Wayne an bit later.
This will get people talking to each other about flying together. Perhaps a maximum of 4 in the air at the same time within the 20 minute window. What we should also have is a good gap so that if any one user is in a a slot, they cannot fly in the subsequent slot unless no one else has booked a slot. This should give all people a fair amount of flight time and also ensure that people speak to their fellow pilots prior to launch regarding frequencies etc.
That way we can still do some of the fun things like watching Red Ivan cling on to the AXN for dear life, or have other pitched multi plane battles.
One thing I know some of us will be thinking is that this seems all too club-like and organised, and the next thing we'll be introducing is a pegboard. I don't think we need to do that with 15 pilots on the day, we simply need to talk to each other and plan ahead of time simply to stop the "foot in vision scenario" that CK mentioned above.
What do you think?
Could further improve the situation if each pilot has a set of LHCP and RHCP polarised antennas.

Very nice - I was thinking about pairing up (or more) but I was concerned about the same people potentially being in multiple slots together. Having the "no pilots from a slot in a subsequent one" sorts that out. And I'm very much in favor of getting these sorted out in advance, so think about who you might fly with, coordinate your channels and you are good to go. This way, we save time for flying and avoid these "turning on 5.8" shouts, accompanied with a "turn it off turn it off" half a second later.
I hope we're not quite like a club with lots of rules - but I do think the whiteboard idea is reasonable... aside from saying who's flying next, we could also write things on it like peoples best distances of the day (so people can smash these in their flights) and things like "The race starts at 3pm"

So says the self proclaimed immersion RC prozzy. You get paid by the line by them or what?
For the Race next time just add a rule that all equipment must be UK legal meaning at or under the UK legal radiated power and CE marked , and able to be configured to any channe in its band.otherwise you cant fly. Simple!
If you did that you could have 3 planes up at a time and make a proper race of it.

Yikes - now that does sound like club based rules. Such a restriction will never happen. However, if we use slots, you'll be able to attend and not be worried about being swamped by Dave's mega-illegal gear.
Also for race, read "time trial"

I don't think there's any need for that unless it was of course a genuine joke. If any of us have a beef regarding specific VTx gear then perhaps take it to another thread and discuss it. What I will say though is that I agree with CurryKitten, in that many of us have more than 25mW VTxs on our gear, so buying new VTxs JUST for this event probably won't happen. Remember we're not just talking video here but crossover with control and video on 2.4 for example so it makes sense to plan our slots anyway, regardless of power.
Andy, it would be good to see you at the next one as I'm keen to see your setup and tracker, but can we keep the discussions to Mad Dogs and how we do the next one?
I'm defo gonna try and come to the next one, and camp over
I'd love to meet some of the Southern Massive but 200-odd miles each way = £££ in my car

Or organise one oop norf!! :gotit:
Tell the Mrs you are taking her and the kids for a nice weekend trip down south. Best take a plane just in case there is a chance to fly. Then just turn up to a happy coincidence. ;D
a few more pics, sorry their late but been having trouble uploading stuff.
I like the idea of a whiteboard list, but we also need to take into account people tinkering in the club house.... Neil:P

Flyn was the sponsor of the prize, so wasn't eligible to race. So he was racing for pride... and a potential massive ribbing if he didn't pull off the fastest time.

Hi all, was great to come along and have a look last weekend and some nice videos. Makes me wish I'd read the posts on it a bit earlier, thought it was a northern meet and not on my doorstep!
I'm gonna stop being a lurker and get my ten posts in :D
And so you should ez!
Guys, where's the f*****g videos?
Where's your video Rich, I turned my back for a second and missed the Penguin bench landing.
Unfortunately I have no useful video of the day. My Skywalker flight although eventful, yielded no good footage, and my AXN time trial was too dark.

No probs mate. Maybe we should invite Rich and a few guys over our way for a fly before hand. ;D
Im game for that, i flew at Caesars camp the other day (the place i mentioned to you and dave) took half hour to hike to the top and i was dead to the world by the time i got to the top so wont attempt that again lol. We should gather at a new location, there is what i can see to be an epic flying location at hannington mast, but not sure if it will interfere with us or not.

Yer id be up for meeting somewhere new. Will have to decide in the new year on a place. Have a speak to Dave.
