Title: Open Rant Thread
Post by: wgt40w on February 04, 2016, 02:00:59 PM

Suggestion - anyone feeling the need for a good rant - place in this Thread.

My start

Today, Feb 4th, I was in the middle of enjoying reading a ranting Thread about a sponsored backpack - while I 'turned the page' and the whole Thread was deleted!! (by a Moderator - I assume)

Now come on Mods - don't spoil our fun at seeing 2 or 3 Forum members getting to the stage of verbal Forum fighting!

Rant over - Next?

Lol sorry to spoil your fun bud, it was good old ranting. Nothing to do with mods as I asked for the thread to be deleted as I never want to make anyone feel bad or annoyed and as that was how I was feeling at the time, I thought it be best to get rid pronto (don't wanna feed the trolls do I lol). I tried to share my honest opinion about something that changed the way I play but it was seen as 'underhanded advertising' that in some way benefitted me personally, I know someone being sponsored by a company would make them look/be biased (and its hard not to be without conscious thought) but I feel in all honesty this was not the case in question, but I stand corrected, I'm completely wrong and failed to see their point entirely.

Go Ratty Go  :D

Calling someone out on their BS is not ranting.

Look, since that post, you have joined in on a discussions and not just turned up, posted your adverts and left.

So the forum is now a better place.  ;D

I don't really care to be honest, as long as someone isn't trying to hide who they are.  Nobody seems to go mental whenever the Ritewing guy turns up and then goes again.

There's a big difference.

Chris from Ritewing comes on here to personally promote and provide assistance with HIS OWN PRODUCT.

JAB1a came on today with an overblown, over the top, so called "review" about a flipping back pack.... seriously.... I've never seen anyone so enthusiastic about a back pack. Just so happens that the brand that sponsors him is plastered all over said back pack... funny that.

I bought a backpack case for my DJI Phantom last year (albeit a cheap hobbyking one).... it drastically enhanced my ability to take my phantom and all it's kit out and about in one easy to carry bag... but I didn't feel the need to shout this from the roof tops, with lots of pictures of this magical bag and a link of the website where I bought it... did I?

I can see that there's a bit of a difference, yeah.  But as a total bystander the reactions were so extreme that I ended up feeling a bit sorry for the guy.  I can't believe people were genuinely as upset as they were making out, it seemed all a bit out of proportion.
Title: Re: Open Rant Thread

As a total bystander, you may not have been aware of his affiliation with the brand, some people were and they were right to point it out :)

The 'admin' cost of paying VAT on items imported from overseas.

Got one from DHL today, £33.79 for VAT, £10 for 'Disbursement'

1. It costs you nothing like £10 for you to send me a letter, and get either a computer or one of those human things to pay it for me.

2. I didn't ask you to pay it for me, i am perfectly capable of doing it myself thank you.

3. That £10 is probably the cost for you to delivery a parcel 1st class within the UK, but i paid for the parcel to be delivered from china (Emax in this case) to my door, not from Emax to Stansted airport's customs.

How is it that a whole generation have let themselves be completely fooled by advertising moguls that it is good and necessary to buy small bottles of water - at extortionate prices - when they could be drinking equally healthy and clean water, at a fraction of the bottled price, by simply turning on any cold water tap ??

Why does the government extol the virtues of DAB radio - 'persuading' people to buy new DAB radios by threatening to stop FM transmissions - then stop spending any more money on installing sufficient DAB transmitter relays to give an equal transmission coverage compared to FM ?

Council tax!

I'd rather take my own rubbish to the tip every week instead of waiting 2 weeks for my bin to be emptied.. but only if it's not too heavy, or not containing unwashed  :censored:  cartons.

And while we're at it, I never use the police, don't usually set my house on fire and none of my kids attend a public school.. so basically I pay £120 a month for 2 bin collections, and the council christmas knees up!

Car Insurance

Why, when I haven't made any claim, received any tickets or been involved in any accident for over 12 years + have an annual driven mileage reducing year-on-year - does the premium increase almost every year?

The latest excuse is that the government insurance premium tax has been increased.

Spoken English Changes

1) 'of' is disappearing - we now go "out the door" or "out the window" - we used to go "out of ...."

2) 'ly' is fast being lost - we now go 'private' and shop 'local' - me, I shop locally!

This one annoys me too, but I know the answer....

Of course people can see what they are doing, but it is simply down to one thing.... selfishness..... they don't _care_ what they are doing because they are selfish and want to do what _they_ want regardless of the impact on others, why, because it's easier / better for them!

Product cheapening

How many products can you think of that are now smaller and with a reduced composition that are sold as being unchanged?

e.g. bar of Aero - by carefully fully rounding off all corners, the thing is reduced by approx. 5%.
toothpaste - now far more 'watery' than used to be.
boxes of breakfast cereal - more empty 'settling' room than used to be.

North Lincolnshire council, not emptying my wheelie bin because "it's too heavy for the hydraulic lift on the lorry".

WTF.

I think if I can wheel my bin out to the pavement, a hydraulic lift can manage to lift it up into the wagon surely?

They checked the CCTV (quite why they have CCTV on the lorry boggles the mind - or does it??) and confirmed that the bin man couldn't move the bin. What a load of crap! I can pull it along with one hand!! Do they employ midgets?

When I was a kid I can remember the bin men CARRYING two metal bins full of coal ash on their backs, kicking children out of their way.

Health and Safety my ass!

So now I have to not only empty my bin if I want it picked up next time, I have to take my own rubbish to the tip at my own expense.

Remnd me why I pay council tax again?

Guess  who is going to stand next to the bin next time those dicks come around next time? Me - I'll chuck the damn bin on the wagon myself if I have to, or better yet, climb onboard it and refuse to move until they take it ha ha.

Steve I have the same problem.

I guarantee you it's the lazy arse binmen and the collection agency which have the contract which are using that as an excuse not to collect rubbish.

I have the same problem here, my council slaps a sticker on my bin saying it's not been collected . eg. due to recyclables being in the non-recyclable bin. (or non-recyclables in the recycle bin)

Happens once every couple months I recon. In each case, there is nothing wrong with my recycling, my wife is on top of that TRUST ME , every time I put something in the fkin bin she double checks.

So they collect once a week, if they do this to me once every 8 weeks, that's 16% less rubbish they have to collect.

And they are doing it up and down the street to everyone.

Something that really pissed me off the other day - minimum amounts for payment terminals.

I was in the Co-Op and this young girl was in with two toddlers (her kids) in front of me in the queue, and she was paying for electricity and gas on one of those pre-pay card things you put in a meter.

She had £9 on her, and put £5 on the electricity and wanted to put £4 on the gas as that's all she had. They said no because the payment terminal company had a "minimum of £5 per transaction policy". WTF. Some people just don't have the cash, it's a fact.

So they'd sooner someone would go cold than suck up a few pence in charges?

I gave the girl a quid so she could put her gas on because she her voice was starting to crack as she said she had no heating on - talk about kicking people while they're down.

Yes I suppose.

It's a pity the limit is applied to pre-payment meter cards. Usually people on those are really struggling.

I think those pre-payment meters work out out more expensive than normal billing.  Anyway, nice gesture Steve,

The reason for the £5 min charge is that the meter has to have a minimum of £5 credit for emergency use. If it runs out of normal credit the meter asks if you want to use the emergency credit. If you do it must me topped up first. That's why there is a min charge. And pay as you go power is no more expensive than a credit account, you can swap tariffs just the same providing you are not paying off a energy debt.

+1 for that, when I had a meter back in the day it was extortionate. Especially for gas. I moved into a different house which didn't have a pre-pay meter and I paid so much less for my energy it was really noticeable. Hence my distaste for prepay meters and kicking poor people while they're down.

Karma sent to you Mr W.
I found this today on Martin Lewis money savig site.

'The cheapest prepayment meter tariff costs, on average, roughly £1,025/year. Yet the cheapest tariff for credit meter customers is currently around £750/year, a saving of £275/year. Balance the saving with the cost of swapping meter to help you decide.'

Not fair is it?

Martin Lewis says its something to do with the Government wanting a competitive market, which means there has to be different tariffs. (something along those lines)

Unfortunately this means the elderly, disabled and none tech savvy people end up getting ripped off.

I just switched last month too, and saved (predicted) £340 for the year.

On http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/ (http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/) you can sign up to their tariff comparison thing and it will notify you when you can switch to a cheaper tariff.

I have 2 meters and 2 tarrifs for general use and restricted hours heating. I recently tried switching providers and was offered a better rate for one of the meters but the 2nd meter was not on the drop down list. I called a potential provider to be told they did not recognise my 2nd meter and in order to provide me with a supply for this they would have to change the meter and possibly do some rewiring. So I called my current provider and was informed that the 2nd meter and its rate were only available through them. However I was in credit by hundreds of pounds and could have a refund plus a reduced monthly DD saving me £360 per annum.  :)

Real answer is that the higher tariff is all to do with the higher risk of whether they actually will get paid or have the meter vandalised + the admin costs of handling the pre pay cards + it's a good opportunity to get extra profit.
Most companies in general make a greater proportion of profits from poor people than rich:-
- via higher tariffs
- by requiring payment in advance
- by charging interest fees
- etc. etc.

This is why the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

"I think those pre-payment meters work out out more expensive than normal billing. "

I'm also tempted to start a new rant about my wife leaving the car with the wiper switch on, so when I started the engine this morning it ripped one of the rubbers off on the frozen window when I turned the ignition on.    I do it too, but that's different. ;D

Car insurance. For the second year my wife's renewal quote from Tesco has gone up, yet if she applies for a online quote from them it's cheaper. So she rings up and takes out the new quote.
Guess they hope people won't check.

Funny thing about insurance if you've had a car off the road ... they assume you've just bought the car when you do an online quote, so make sure you tell them you've owned it for a while. I saved more than £300 when bringing my MPV back on the road after 9 months of SORN.

The reason the guy on the phone gave was "we assume you're not used to driving a new car when you first get it".

I only queried it because I usually pay around £280 f/c a year inc business and they wanted nearly 600 quid so I rang up to ask why!
Title: Re: Open Rant Thread

They up your premium the less miles you do too. I have two cars and only do a few 1000 in one of them as its a summer car. They wanted a lot more because of the lower usage. I asked why and they said because you don't drive much you have less experience on the road. Even tho I am using my other car that is insured with them for the majority of my miles.

Always challenge the renewal quote, I when they ask if youd like to take out the policy just keep saying "no, is that the best you can offer."

I don't know where you guys get your facts from but here is my actual experience.  I bought a house that had payg meters as the last owner was in debt with energy. I am a property developer so it suited me to keep them and the house would be sold on within 7 months. Debt wiped off, new key and card issued, tariffs checked and there was no difference between payg and direct debit, fact. Yes I could have switched but that's not so simple with payg, I could have changed the meters but wtf, let the new owners do it. The main reason for payg is debt with the supplier who puts the meters in so they can recover some debt from each recharge and or no bank account and or on benefits, or in a rental property or holiday home. You cannot run up an energy debt with payg.   But there was no difference per unit between meter direct debit and payg, or standing charge which gets taken from the charge credit. You have to remember that some folks treat energy standing charges  like a poll tax.

It does sound good when worded like that ........

However it could also be that he was going to pick her up and throw her across the shop for wasting his time taking up the til and he was positively fuming at the mouth so gave her £1 to get her out of his way :)  But worded well :) :)

BigT all I know is having lived in very similar houses (provided by the council) back in the day, the ones with meters in them were waaaay more expensive to run than the ones I had where I paid via direct debit. Source: sitting in the freezing cold for many a night because I couldn't afford to put anything on the meter.

It begs the question why they have different tariffs for PAYG + DD users if the comparison costs are the same. They just aren't.

A commission has to be paid out to the Point Of Sale network operator and to the retailer who takes the transaction, this will be a big proportion of the profit, The energy companies won't want to lose out on their own profits, so the end user has to take the hit.
Title: Re: Open Rant Thread
Post by: Ratty on February 18, 2016, 04:47:55 PM
I get my facts straight from the energy company:

Payment method - Fixed Monthly Direct Debit

Unit rate - Normal  13.766p per kWh

Standing charge - 16.422p per day

Payment method - Prepayment

Unit rate -Day  17.735p per kWh  Night  8.306p per kWh

Standing charge - 26.019p per day

Also:

Fixed monthly direct debit payments, where you pay a fixed estimate each month, can usually save you £75/year as companies are sure you won't default and they earn interest on any overpayments. So if you can do this, go for it.

What's wrong with giving your Thread a proper title?

Is it really that difficult to come up with a few words in the English language that briefly describe what lies within?

I understand the creative titles such as "And I thought I looked cool fpv'n" and "you wait all day for a train to come...". They're smart, they're funny... they're not boring... I'm not asking for those threads to be titled "a video of me wearing goggles" or "a video of 2 trains", because the owners of those threads are smart enough to be creative whilst still alluding to what the video is actually going to be about.

But attempting to be SOOOOOO creative and "artistic" as to completely avoid any words or descriptive language that may convey the content of the video is just taking the mickey now.

Where would this forum be if we just started randomly naming threads. would you give a thread about building a tricopter the title "Big yellow fluffy bunnies"

No you wouldn't

"Hey, I know... I'll give my thread such a silly title that people will click on it purely out of curiosity, then I've tricked them into also watching my video... yay for youtube views!!!"

The polls indicate that he'll win the nomination to run for president but they also indicate that he'll most certainly lose in the election, on account of being completely repugnant to any floating voters and even many Republicans.

As for his credentials as a genius I'm not so sure.  He inherited a fortune and would apparently be twice as rich as he is now had he had just invested it in a bond that tracked the top 500 companies and spent all his life just trying to play golf or finger painting rather than run a series of failed business ventures.

He's a complete low life who just says any old half baked, vile rubbish that appeals to the worst in the worst people.  If you hear him being interviewed it's quite clear that he has no real clue about anything to do with the issues he talks about.  Yeah, not keen on him at all.

Well it's the easiest thing in the world to be as cynical as that and just say "politicians are bad" but most of them do have views about things that they have taken some time to come to even if you don't agree with them.  They can also usually speak coherently because it's their job.

Hearing Trump talk is something else though, he never fact checks and just repeats lies and half-heard half-truths and stumbles and mumbles when challenged, he's utterly hopeless.  He's like a walking YouTube or Daily Mail comments section or just some drunk racist gobshite in the pub of whom there are enough within his party to win him the nomination.

The battle against ISIS will never be won simply because it's like a Hydra. You shoot one head off, another three grows in its place.

To have a chance it needs to be a political effort - i.e. stop invading their countries for oil under the pretence of doing good.

Unfortunately, we're not at war with a country or nation, we're at war with twisted ideologies, ideologies that stem solely from outdated dogma and paranormal superstition... a.k.a religion.

Extremist religious groups such as DAESH will always exist in one form or another, as long as the religion they claim to represent also exists.

Being an "Oldie" myself, I would be interested to hear from the 20 to 25 year olds how they will vote in the Referendum....Its their future at stake here, not mine, I retired two years ago at 58, even so, I hate the Socialist EU Club with a passion and a lot my age feel the same way too.
It seems like " Blairs children" dont care either way, which is alarming...
As for Cameron, I had a lot of respect for him at one time, not any more, what a sell out snake he has become...more interested in himself and his big backers, that and his future job Merkel has lined up for him..Its not like hes even any good at hiding it, more U turns than a dual carriageway...Vote....OUT.....Or its a LOT more of the same, and neighbours you really dont want next door or in ghettos. ..Last chance.

I'm voting out because I believe the EU has its own interests at heart rather than that of the individual countries. Having seen the way the country has gone downhill over the last 20+ years in terms of community fragmentation, I think it's important we have control over our own destiny rather than it being up to some unelected politicians in Brussels. I think they need us more than we need them.

However, it scares the crap out of me that we will no longer be subject to the European Court of Human Rights which leaves the justice system completely exposed to the whims of people like Theresa May and her rampages against the Internet. Snopping charter etc.

It's not an easy choice either way.

Edit: I'm mid-30s.

I'm happy to get the chance to vote on the EU

What dislike is all the crap were fed

If we leave secruity is at risk ?

Rubish were in nato and the UN and we have tactical nukes unlike most of the EU. As for sharing intelligence we share more with the USA and Austrialla than we do with the whole of the EU.

So basically no major risk

Trade.
They need us we need them basically, we should adopt the free trade agreement and if they impose a tarrif on us or limits we do the same.

Example China just imposed a 46% import tax on steel so why the hell have we not returned the favour. That's what we should do get a back bone and as the 5th biggest economy flex our muscles a bit more.

People want to sell to us and us to them

Boarder control
We need to just deport as many illegal asylum seekers as possible and get the message out you come here get a free trip home. I'm sorry but the UK needs to solve its own homeless issues 1st.

We should have the USA point system or say only 60000 a year

And of course we shouldn't pay for kids that are not here ;)

And as for the fact we help countries around the world with money like India that needs to stop, they have a space program so they can afford to sort themselves out.

My little rant over lol

Thanks Mark, saved me saying exactly the same....We as a country have quite frankly forgotten how to run ourselves to meet our OWN needs....Politicos  are the most guilty of all, seemingly quite happy to roll over to the EUs every whim....What really bugs me is when they say we have have to be in it to get a say in what happens...When did that EVER happen then..?
It must be great being a Politico these days, having mother EU make all the decisions for you...exaggeration. .?...You decide...meantime, Vote....OUT.

The original EU thing was supposed to be about trading and that's it. It's the politics that's ruined it and got us in the position we are now.

As for India, yes we should help them for they are commonwealth. They stood by us in our time of need. The Gurkas in case you don't know who I'm on about. Poland is another country we should have stood by as W. Churchill promised we would.

I agree with all that MarkLincs said,
as a country we need to be masters of our own destiny

my very first vote was a yes vote for the referendum to entry into the "common market", if only I could have looked into the future
and seen that it would evolve into what we now have which to my mind is nothing like was spouted at its inception,

free flow of labour seemed a good idea at the time but now it just means we have to take all the cr*p on earth and a huge number of those have no intention whatsoever of putting any labour into it, merely coming here to sponge with immediate effect

as for trade agreements the "EU" has handcuffed Great Britain far more and for longer than any sanction or tariff that could have been imposed
without any possibility of discussion with any country that might have imposed them

Vote OUT

New Rant:  YouTube viewing figures con

I subscribe to numerous YouTube channels. A new video appears in my subscriptions page - with an appealing title caption still picture - I watch the video. Five or six days later 'another' similarly titled 'new' video appears - but definitely with a different title caption page - I start to view and realise it is the same video as I watched 5 or 6 days before.
I don't normally remember the title names of all of the videos I watch, but I can more easily remember the title pictures. So, by changing the title picture after a few days, they fool people into thinking it's a new different video. By doing this the video posters can increase their supposed number of viewers and earn more money from advertising etc.

I hate feeling I have contributed to a con artist making money, by being conned into watching a video twice.

Actually lets keep it on topic.

How do people get this fat? It's disgusting. I mean I'm no slender adonis but even I know when it's time to cut down on the haribo for a few weeks ffs.

Lack of education.

It seems to be more important to teach children there is a man in the clouds than to teach them if you eat more calories than you burn you will gain weight.

Then you have all the companies trying to make money and providing false information which people blindly follow because they wont believe you just have to eat less than you burn to lose weight.

The amount of nonsense I hear regarding weight is scary.

Rant time, 2 words PARCEL FORCE.

I haven't FPV'ed since late last year and for the new season of warmth I thought I'd treat myself to a new plane, Hobbyking had sent me a 30% off code by email and they had mini skyhunters on offer last week for £58, with the discount it made it £41  :D. Few other bits and bobs on the order, sent by Parcel Force 48hr.
Waited in Friday(losing money) as the tracking had it as 'out for delivery', I waited and waited and no parcel, so I checked the tracking again to find it had 'insufficient address' (2nd time parcelfarce have used this lie to me), this miraculously changed to 'unable to locate premises' despite me living in a house on a road that has a post code that satnavs will bring you straight to....... We do live a couple of miles out from the local town so it is going to be a case of lazy d@ckhead driver wanting to knock off early on a Friday so lies, as said not the first time....
No delivery Saturday as you have to pay more for that, despite it already being late.........  But a note on the tracking telling me the parcel is scheduled for 2nd attempt at delivery(wasn't a first attempt though) on the next working day, that being today. So another day waiting in, I just checked the tracking to find the status 'prepared for delivery' at 10:09am, WHAT!!!!! F@cking great, so I've taken another day off and these idiots haven't even managed to put my parcel in the van, which would of course have left the depot at 8 am!!!
Why can't somebody hold these awful companies who seem to always bugger you about to account, they are quick enough to take your money, once in the local depot delivery is a very simple task.
The last time parcelfarce did this to me my package was nearly 2 weeks late and when it did eventually turn up the driver said 'Sorry mate, I've been on holiday and the temp driver couldn't be arsed to drive out down these back roads' .

Feel better already for the rant lol.

It did finally turn up today and the address on the box was of course perfect so the whole 'insufficient address' business was indeed bollocks lol. On a good note I now own a mini skyhunter :D

I don't understand why a drain in your own garden is your responsibility, so anything that goes wrong with it, you have to fix. Makes sense so far, except that, you're not allowed to move said drain if it runs into mains sewage without the express permission and over priced consultancy and surveyancy fee they charge!

Daylight robbery! Therefore I'll be digging it up in the dark!!!!!
Title: Re: Open Rant Thread

+1 with that. I was looking at a house to buy before I got this one. The owner had built a conservatory over the top of a drain and had to put a trapdoor in the floor of the conservatory for access because the council wouldn't give permission for the drain to be moved.

1) who wants a trapdoor in the middle of a conservatory?
2) what happens if it starts to stink - whole house filled with stench
3) what happens if it overflows or backs up? - whole house filled with next doors poo

No thanks!

Title: Re: Open Rant Thread
Post by: markwilliams on April 13, 2016, 10:33:52 AM
When we had our extension built I was able to convince next door that they really wanted the drain cover in their garden. I was then able to convince the council that it was a great idea.

Job done!

No drain on my property. No responsibility.

Mark.

Talking of planning applications -

20 years ago I applied for outline planning permission for two bungalows. Permission was refused due to no spare sewerage capacity in our village - within the next 10 years 22 new houses were built - without any mods being made to the local sewage plant !!

A few days ago I woke up to the News on the radio saying that later in the day would be the Prime Minister's Queens Speech - which would all be about prison reforms - and went on to give vague details.

FFS - what was the point in anyone attending to listen to the speech, when all the details had already been issued and even commented on!

Modern PR sucks - when a real tragedy happens such as the recent Egyptian passenger plane crash - within minutes of the occurrence 'people' are demanding to know the cause immediately. This just allows all the news weirdos to come out of their holes with preposterous explanations - backed by not a shred of real evidence.

3D printers are great. No really! But why isn't there a foolproof way to secure your print to the bed so that its stuck fast during printing AND easily comes away afterwards!

I can achieve "stuck like a barnacle and needs industrial machinery for removal" or "floating mess of random 3D printed filament". There's no middle ground >:(

Not quite a rant but a well written observation I saw on last nights Top Gear.

Evans needs to realise he's hosting a show on Sunday nights on BBC Two and switch on his One Show/Radio 2 mode rather than the hitting the Big Breakfast/TFI Friday foghorn button and bellowing his way around the studio.

Meanwhile, LeBlanc should clearly be saved for the packages, challenges and road trips, because he's brilliant at them. But evidently. he's less comfortable with a live audience – he's an actor, not a presenter.

To which I would only add, let's start a fund to pay for someone to provoke Chris Evans into punching them too.

I didn't think it really was that bad at all. Evans voice grated on me yes but it always has, Leblanc was great, really enjoyed his participation. It wasn't fantastic or mind blowing, but it wasn't crap either.

The only ones to really complain will be the Evans haters and the butt hurt C,H and M fans that cant get over it.

Chris Evans has aged massively IMO over the last 10-15 years - the guy needs some sleep. It's no wonder he's so OTT all the time, he must be wired as hell on Red Bull

It's not like he needs to earn money any more either - if I was him I'd be kicking back on a nice beach in between driving my car collection. Why's he continuing to kill himself prematurely by burning the candle at both ends? Crazy.

I'm the same, I just tried to watch it on the iplayer... I was cringing for the whole 10 minutes I watched it for before turning it off.

I might watch the rest of it some other time, but I would have preferred a completely different format or something original as opposed to them just trying to make it the same program but with different people.

So it would be OK at your place of work if someone punched you over not having a hot meal ready for him late at night, then you got sacked for it too?
Much as I liked Clarkson and much as I dislike Evans, no-one at work is above getting away with that sort of thing just because they are famous. Assaulting a coworker is a sackable offence in workplaces.

Well, he did apologise and held his hands up for his actions and has admitted he didn't want Top Gear to end that way. I dunno, people react strangely in stressful situations.

That's dead and buried though - it's eye-opening that the BBC didn't realise how strong the camaraderie between C, H + M was and that Top Gear was just a side show to their shenanigans. Top Gear was no longer a car show, it was a "hanging out with the lads" show which featured nice cars and dubious challenges, none of which were to be taken seriously. If The Grand Tour is the same, it'll be a hit simply because it is the TV equivalent of larking around with some mates.

Who doesn't enjoy that?

When I was a lad, there were three channels on TV and a license fee that my mum and dad paid for (we had a Black and White TV so it was cheaper). I think the TV stopped at 11pm and childrens TV was on for a couple of hours per afternoon. Now there are too many channels to count and I pay a much bigger license fee.

If I pay for Sky, why do they fill it with adverts? After all its all repeats of what was on TV anyway AND I'm paying for it. If its not repeats but sport for instance which has huge amounts of sponsors all over the place, why should I pay???

We cancelled our Sky last month, we were paying as near as damn a hundred quid a month and out of the hundreds of channels available still only ended up watching repeats of Grand Designs.

What he said! Kids TV stated about 4pm and ended at at 5.35 PM with Magic Roundabout before the early evening news.
Watched Blue Peter, Scooby Doo, Wacky Races, Stop the pigeon, Vision On, Marine Boy, Newsround with John Craven etc. Remember some kids TV in the mornings during summer hols. Usually some foreign programming dubbed into English. White Horses, Aeronauts, Flashing Blade and Banana Splits come to mind.
