Weirdly, I find myself not having any photos of the FPV setup, but I have a video of my quack and dirty pan setup
The first flights went fine, but I flew it first time at a meet and so had multiple people spotting and telling me which way to turn.
Before that time I'd already been attempting LOS flights and stuffed it into the ground 20 times and had it stuck up a tree for 24 hours.
Despite suffering multiple horrendous crashes that have seen the nose turned to mush and the fuse snap repeatedly. I still have it and it still flies, albeit it feels a bit like a wet sponge now

Shame even Bruce turned to Quadcopters, I enjoyed the FPV videos he did onboard his AXN and HobbyKing FPV planes.
To be honest the one thing I will never remember him for is his continuous circuits of the same airstrip over and over again :)

He did do a few narrated videos (one where he almost crashed 1km away with the R-Link UHF) .. I think he'd probably have done more if he hadn't been grounded and is now playing the safe game.

A Skywalker Falcon. Actually flew really well and totally gave me the bug. Wish I'd kept it now but I ended up hacking it to bits trying to mod it to take bigger batteries. Can't find them anywhere anymore!

The oldies at the BMFA flying club used to always say FPV was dangerous. So i added some safety spikes so no one got in the way. ;D
This was back when we bodged everything. So its just some meccano pressed into the foam with a small bit of wood for the camera to poke threw with the grub screw holding it in place.

I honestly can't remember my first "proper" fpv plane with VTX on it, because I had such a hard time getting started I had about 3 planes before I was what I like to think of "successful". Amongst them were the first Bixler, the FPV Raptor and a Skywalker. My first really good FPV plane was a Bixler 2 which brought me a 2.1km personal best which was ridiculously nerve wracking back then seeing as I only had a HornetOSD with no RTH or stability.

Me and a mate sat in a pub trying to work out how to get 6MHz video bandwidth onto the 2MHz available on 144-146 meg Ham band - I think we split the vid into three 2MHz chunks, and then used FM, AM and phase modulation all together... This was to fly a model plane 'First Person View'.....Never happened, obviously...
He called it PFART modulation IIRC...
Things have moved on a tad since then....

The white T tail glider is a Springbok - Veron IIRC.
Behind is a Mercury Wizard or an Outlaw - can't remember which - flew on rudder & throttle only - rather badly.
The ME BF110 was built from a plan - control line on 80 foot wires - pulled ya blooming arm off !
And yes, 2 channel 27MHz radio in red vinyl - cost a lot in those days....

I was flying Single Channel RC with wind up rubber powered actuators when I was about 15 years old..

Hee hee indeed - at age 10 (1967) I had a towline glider with an escapement - first button press gives you left, next press gives you right etc.
McGregor RC IIRC - anodised blue transmitter with an on/off switch and a single button to press?
I used to be able to (occasionally) fly it back and catch it :D

Yep, I had one of those as well...with an Elmic Conquest sequential escapement....A rubber band powered actuator....
In those days, you got your free plan every month, went on the bus to the model shop, bought balsa wood, glue, covering, paint, dope, fuel proofer etc...and then, you cut all the wood out and made it....It was called aeromodellng....
Imagine if the little darlings had to go through that Today...lol...but it was normal back then....Very rewarding though to see your creation fly...Its why I like Scratchbuilds..

My first FPV plane was an AXN too with pan/tilt. Sadly the ground decided to hit it on the nose. Now on my third AXN along with a bunch of other planes. I keep coming back to the old faithful AXN for a simple bit of poodling around.
Didn't you have a Hubsan Spyhawk first ?
