The oldies at the BMFA flying club used to always say FPV was dangerous. So i added some safety spikes so no one got in the way. ;D

This was back when we bodged everything. So its just some meccano pressed into the foam with a small bit of wood for the camera to poke threw with the grub screw holding it in place.

Wow, some epic first FPV machines there... here are some of my early efforts

First RC plane ever - scratch built MikeysRC trainer

and just for Steve... later that day...

My first ever FPV plane... (although I never had a VTX on it, just recording cameras) does this look familiar, almost like a company might have copied and improved on my design?

Unfortunately, it was far too tail heavy (yes it did fly, no I don't have the footage) and ended up in the bin

This was my first successful video plane, note the little recess in the nose for the "chewing gum spy camera" lol

I honestly can't remember my first "proper" fpv plane with VTX on it, because I had such a hard time getting started I had about 3 planes before I was what I like to think of "successful". Amongst them were the first Bixler, the FPV Raptor and a Skywalker. My first really good FPV plane was a Bixler 2 which brought me a 2.1km personal best which was ridiculously nerve wracking back then seeing as I only had a HornetOSD with no RTH or stability.

a few years later and I was onto these bad boys...

1979... Me and a mate sat in a pub trying to work out how to get 6MHz video bandwidth onto the 2MHz available on 144-146 meg Ham band - I think we split the vid into three 2MHz chunks, and then used FM, AM and phase modulation all together... This was to fly a model plane 'First Person View'.....Never happened, obviously...
He called it PFART modulation IIRC...
Things have moved on a tad since then....

Oh no,...I recognise some of those planes...and is that a 27mhz Fleet transmitter in the red vinyl covered case..?
The low winger looks a bit like a Keil Kraft Sir Gallahad maybe...with a ton of diahedral on it..?

Hee hee, it is indeed a Galahad - I may have mistakenly put in twice the dihedral specified...
The white T tail glider is a Springbok - Veron IIRC.
Behind is a Mercury Wizard or an Outlaw - can't remember which - flew on rudder & throttle only - rather badly.
The ME BF110 was built from a plan - control line on 80 foot wires - pulled ya blooming arm off !
And yes, 2 channel 27MHz radio in red vinyl - cost a lot in those days....

Ah, Veron Springbok, that was a posh glider....and fond memories of the Kiel Kraft?..Outlaw..
I was flying Single Channel RC with wind up rubber powered actuators when I was about 15 years old..
Oh, and wasnt it a Mercury kit the Gallahad...?

Hee hee indeed - at age 10 (1967) I had a towline glider with an escapement - first button press gives you left, next press gives you right etc.
McGregor RC IIRC - anodised blue transmitter with an on/off switch and a single button to press?
I used to be able to (occasionally) fly it back and catch it :D
Sometimes in my teeth :laugh:
I'd rather fly that now than use facebook.
