I have pretty much complete access to a HUGE sports hall and assembly hall with tiered seating and a HUUUUUGE projector with video input, just think of FPV on a 20ft screen!!!
Both indoor areas open up on to a massive school playing field which is open for pretty much all sizes of aircraft.
The best thing is that it is all in the middle of the countryside so FPV is good to go!
So good weather or bad weather we can have a blast ;D ;D

hi all, i'm a "very interested" at the moment. i've not got any kit, but the seed was sewn by some fpv flying at a country show in leics at the begining of sept. it's only 30 miles ish so i'd love to chat with some of you and find out more, may bring the mrs as she was enthralled by the view through the goggles. i'm pretty sure i'll get a quad soon (don't tell her i said that!).

We can only have Sunday 25th November which is accesible from 9am - 2pm.
We can have the HUGE sports hall which is more than big enough for all quads and small indoor planes. It has power for charging etc.
There are full toilet / shower facilities. There is a vending machine and coffee machine but thats pretty much it for food so bring your own....
We also have the whole sports field at the back of the site which is big enough to get pretty much anything off!!!
The area is surrounded by countryside so should get some great FPV flights.

I'm still really gutted I'm going to miss this! It would have been perfect for my little mqx and the soon to be purchased TBS/F450/F550. Will have to make the next one!
I might buy one of those little £15 coax helis from Home Bargains and strap a keychain camera to it :D Stick a Lipo in the controller and I'll be able to fly it indoors all day as it charges from the Tx :laugh:

i should be flying by the time of the meet. i've just ordered a DJI F330. i was going to get a snelflight quadpod, but it's a bit small for outdoor use, and a real challenge to FPV! an F330 is just small enough for indoors and i've seen them FPV'd on youtube.

Right this is looking to be one AWESOME days flying.
Just a few things to do if people could to help out.
It is open for ANY RC MODEL as long as it does not tear up the field to much of destroy the school :o If you have hovercraft / rc cars / planes / helicopters / quads / laser guided sharks bring them along!!!
Indoor flying is in the school sparts hall and as such will need to be kept clean.....ish. So if you can bring some clean indoor trainers (clean shoes) for indoor use, or failing that some thick socks to walk around indoors in.
For outside I would recommend another pair of shoes / trainers and then at least inside can keep clean inside. This is a FREE venue and if people like it I can get it whenever really!!!
The sports hall has loads of seating / changing rooms / showers and all that stuff should anyone need it. There is also a gym if for some strange reason you feel the urge.... fairly sure i've never been in :laugh:
If you are flying on 35MHZ can you please bring a frequency flag / stake with you frequency on to make it clear to others when you are flying what frequency your on. Also I will have a signing in sheet for fire regs etc and will put a column on for what frequencies we are using to try and spot any problems.
There are no "rules" as such but just normal common sense SAFE flying...... oh and please do not crash into the school, it is brand new and the Boss will kill me :laugh: :laugh:
Food wise. There are vending machines if you can survive a day on sugar alone. I am going to bring my small camping stove and a good few hotdogs so that should keep us going. If any of you wanna bring some grub to share please feel free to do so...... the wives can always bake some buns ;D

We are nearly there!!!
Only another week and it will be the big Northern FPV Meet. With over 20 people coming so far I will need to have some sort of registration system in place for fire regs on Sunday. I am after all FULLY RESPONSIBLE for you folks whilst your on site.
I will be putting out a SIGNING IN SHEET so when you arrive could you please sign in. There will be space for anyone who is flying 35mhz to put their frequency down. This should alert us of any potential clashes here. PLEASE NOTE, although this is in place please do still check before switching on / flying that it is safe to do so.
Children / spectators are more than welcome but there will be a viewing area for these and a seperate pits area for flyers. No non-flyers are to be on the flight line unless invited through mutual consent of the other parties flying please.
Also please do not forget to bring two pairs of shoes, one for in the sports hall and one for outside as outside shoes are no going to be able to be worn inside..... don't wanna get mud everywhere!!!
It will be an awesome day and if you get you name down on the list below i will laser cut some name tags out plus a little key ring for each person coming.

GOOD CALL!!! Nearly forgot about that one.
Yep another one to remember for the day. Turn on video RX first and check you have no signal, not even a slight it of a signal. Then check with flyers if it is ok to turn on your ideo TX, check there is no issues and then fly if everyone is happy for you to do so.

Quick question for you fine folk, is insurance required if you intend to fly? I'm looking forward to just soaking up the sights but I do have a couple models I could bring... it'll be LOS outside as i doubt my Roo Jet and ST model Blaze (not flown this since I put a 40a ESC and 10x7 prop on it) will be much use indoors.

Erm in a word your are responsible for your actions on the day. If you cause an incident and you are not insured in a case which requires it I am sure you may end up in the preverbial dog do!! But that's not going to happen now is it?!?
I will not be checking insurance but please do not kill anyone as graves take ages to dig and do not crash into the school as it is not even a year old yet!!!
Oh and get that plane flown!!! What can possibly go wrong?!?!?
I am sure there will be people there to help and advise plus even test fly / trim it out for you.

I have updated the windows 8 and sod all works on it now to do with the flight sims!! I have booked the big projector and it is pretty awesome in the sports hall as you can get a 20ft screen with the lights dimmed!!!!
Also if you have any VERY LONG av leads we can plug in FPV gear to it. Imagine flying using a 20ft screen ;D

I use Phoenix V4 with my Spektrum DX8, the USB to trainer port cable isn't all that long.. I'd be happy to bring that PC along with me. V4 has 1st/3rd person 3D maps now too. That would look really good at 20ft!
Does the projector have it's own VGA/DVI/HDMI cables?

EagleRC Heli Club I fly from has lost its field
But theres another to look at Sunday and I need to goto that, and suss out whats what and help with site layout etc etc
I'll still be coming - weather is now looking crap but hoping it'll turn, and even if it doesn't, can't beat a good crack with some like minded FPVers :)
Inside is huge anyways so if the weather is a bit on the cack side we have a huge sports hall!!!

I have some indoor helicopters and quads you can fly if it gets to bad outside but I am with you... Sod the weather lets fly ha ha!!!

Thanks to everyone who turned out today.
A great day and nice to meet some of the superb people on here. We have hopefully inspired some more to take the next steps into FPV.
The weather was shocking but managed to get one VERY HAIRY outdoor flight in and give some folks the chance to look through the goggles to see what all the fuss is about. His credit card was shacking in fear!!!
The next one will be on the last weekend of March and I have booked good weather this time!!

Now it is time for me to be embarassed as somebody I was talking with, yes I have forgotten your name, asked about best placement of all the bits and I referred to a set of guidelines on the forum, here they are:
• Keep the video transmitter well clear of the GPS module
• Keep the video transmitter well clear of the R/C receiver and it's antenna
• Keep the OSD as far as possible from the GPS module
• Keep the camera away from the R/C receiver and it's antenna
• Keep the OSD away from the R/C receiver if possible
Based on this:
• The GPS module can be close to the R/C receiver and it's antenna
• The video transmitter can be close to the camera
• The camera can be close to the OSD
• The ESC can be close to the camera and OSD

It was great to meet all of you guys and a big thank you to Simon for organising the event and for being such a welcoming host. Oh and lets not forget the lovely bacon sandwiches and buns too, very nice.
Found this on my ground station camcorder, I think it was aitch flying LOS. Notice the budding young Darwin Award entrant running into the middle of the hall, being told off and then retreating rather sheepishly. The quad undercarriage was quickly mended and flew again. The projector and screen was excellent for showing live action.
