ITS BOOKED, so get ready for the BEST FPV MEET SO FAR....... ;D
Spring NORTHERN MEET 2013 is all booked for the 28th April 2013 (lots of notice so you can get it in your calanders).
It will be at Campsmount School just North of Doncaster, DN69AS. Plenty of hotels and cheap....erm things...in Doncaster.
This one I am hoping to do it all a bit different than just a fly in.
As there are so may who come on to this forum for advise an help I thought it would be a great idea to set up some "workshops" to help people out.
These will be ran at timed slots for rounghly 20-30mins and will take the following formats:
1: Beginners - All the basics on FPV such as equipment, staying safe, planes, mulitrotors etc etc.
2: Intermediate - Things such as extending range, antenna basics, OSD's, autopilots etc etc.
3: Advanced - Long range, antennas, waypoints, firmware etc etc.
I already have one VERY WELL KNOWN member who has offered to help out in these workshops.
They will be fully interactive and will be presented on a big screen with the help of a visualiser so you can all see the fine details!!
There will also be FPV clinics, again at timed slots, (not for you to show us your cool scars, or I have this strage growth on my...). These will be there to get some advise from people how can help you out. So if there is a problem with equipment or other issues you should be able to get them sorted on the day.
There will be a "Cool technologies" area showing off laser cutting and hopefully 3D printing. There will be some cool keyrings to take home.
I have booked the portable big screen so we can have the simulator on it so people can "have a go" at FPV without the danger of stuffing it in.
Of course there will be flying both inside and outside.
Indoor stuff is limited to genuine INDOOR MODELS ONLY and quads in a set part of the sports hall which will be taped off. No large helis or large planes. Basically if it is going to kill someone please do not fly it inside :D
Outdoor flying is open to anyone and everything. The sports field is HUGE and there are some great flights to be had from there, plus the bonus of goal posts to fly through!! There will be some fun challenges to do including limbo and fastest flight etc. I should even be able to get hold of a speed gun, that would be cool!!
There is going to be a great deal of planning involved in this as I want it to be a great event for all involved and to be really helpful for those starting out in FPV or those who just want to find out more. I am going to put it in RCME and RCMW, might even put it on the BMFA website.... Manny might pop along ;D
Any ideas / suggestions or offers of help and participation would be greatfully recieved.
The local press are invited and should be coming as they are really interested in this sort of stuff.
I have had a word with God and he said the weather will be good for this one!!
Thanks and I hope to see you there.
Simon.
Cool mate,
Would love to come along & help out, as long as Ican get some flying in too ;)
Brilliant - well, this was one of my new years resolutions so count me in! As said last time I'm willing to help clean up afterwards if need be!

That is exactly why the workshops are at timed slots so people who are kind enough to run the are not stuck / loosing flying time.
Any time to help other who attend would be really appriciated...

Hi Simon.
First on the list. Ha ha. Come to the last one you set up and enjoyed it very much. Waiting for goggles etc. to arrive so I can start on down the FPV path. Can't wait. PS. Hope the bacon butties are on the menu again.
M.

i will remember the TX this time!!!! haha
simon.
Drone, don't panic the butties will be on again!!
Phibin, ha ha you will forget the model this time, doh!!!
Look forward to seeing you all there.
This sounds like it could be a right ball :)
In the diary, hope the weather is better this time.
Weather is a PROMISE!!!..... well fingers crossed at least
Aitch if you could bring that along it would be awesome to display what it can do. I can get some material for you through work.
Coyote, it will be an awesome event. Lets make it the best so we can show off what we do!!
Mick, it will be great to see you, what you gonna bring to fly?!?
You know, with the level of attendance and the gear on show if we had our heads on properly we could do something really cool along the lines of inviting a TV crew from Look North or something to showcase "drones" and this hobby in a really good light....
Would need some scripting though and obviously permission from the landowners but surely something could be done if we put our heads in gear...?

I have spoken to them and they are up for it already (my Dad works for ITV).
I just did not know if it would scare people off from the event?!?!!? I will see what people think about it on here but I am in 100% agreement with you about showcasing what the hobby is and proving that most of us / some of us and not peeping toms
Also sounds like you are putting yourself forward for the scripting ;D ;D
Well im up for it

You have a big bridge on your doorstep that needs flying so may pop over to you as soon as I have a plane that I am happy to do the trip with!!
Sweet! Should do it while there's snow on the deck, will look cracking!
p.s. - plenty of scope for launch and landing:

That's a theory kind offer bud, its all up in the air at the moment, but it may be 3 weeks out of 4 each month, so P may be looking for something more permanent, but as I say I'm not sure yet. I will be lucky if I can bring one plane or quad, I will be traveling up on the train, my 70cc car wouldn't make it that fare.

Yay! I should be off work so I will be down if I am at home. :-) I'm really looking forward to this. Has anyone thought of posting this on multirotorforums, I think a lot of uk guys on there would be interested.

Simon, any chance of you bringing it forward a week or 2? Or putting it back to the first 2 weeks in April? Ive miscalculated and I will miss it as it stands :-( Youve got a knack of arranging these things for when Im not around, Im beginning to get the impression you dont want me to go to them ;-) lol
EDIT:- Forget all of the above Simon, my head is well and truely burried up the old rear end. My contract finishes the end of March and I may still be around for this if I dont get snapped up straight away by another company. For some reason I thought the date was February... not April!! All being well I will see you there.
P.S The mrs is away most of the second weekend in february if anyone fancies meeting up!

Yeah would be great to meet everyone. I will give you a buzz when Im back, just another 10 days or so to go, not that Im counting!! Lol, to fill in my time onboard Im coming up with a design for a new quad. Im thinking of incorporating an interesting idea, but Im not sure how well it would work, if at all.
It's in the diary Si. Sounds like it'll be a goodun. Should have the new ZII built by then. She's gonna be sexy... Oh yeah. :licklips:

Dont be saying things like that haha you know I csn fly well in thr right amount of space for the model.
Just a quick HELLO and to say I am currently sorting out some timings for the Presentations.
I have decided to run the following Presentations:
10:30 - Beginners guide to FPV.
11:00 - Intermediate guide to FPV.
11:30 - Advanced guide to FPV.
Each presentation will last 10-15 minutes and will be run by some well known members of this forum.
As an added bonus between 12:30-1:00 there will a "Workshop" session where there will be "experts" on hand to help out any problems or questions you may have about FPV or equipment.
Flying will be all day from 10:00 till 1:45 (we need to be out by 2:00).
We have a big indoor hall for SMALL stuff and out side for, well anything really!!
There will be a flight line and a pits area both indoor and out.
We also have an fenced off court that could be used for testing / calibrating quads etc. Or who is mad enough to bring a control line...FPV??
Hope to see you there.

No NON flyers and spotters beyond the flight (no exceptions).
No children near the flight line unless with an adult - keep them safe please!!
No flying over spectators / behind the flight line / no flying towards the flight line.
All people flying FPV must have a spotter, there will be people available if needed.
No large helicopters / planes indoors.
It is the pilots responsibilty to check radio / video frequencies. CHECK BEFORE YOU TURN ON.
No VTX / 35mhz to be turned on unless you are on the flight line. YOU MUST CHECK WITH PILOTS FLYING / ABOUT TO FLY.
STAY SAFE AT ALL TIMES, first aid is available and the Sports Hall staff are the designated First Aiders for the event. Please report all injuries (hopefully none).
As this is an event to "help out" we are running workshops and presentations:

There will be an FPV WORKSHOP running through the day with people on hand to help answer your questions. There will be someone there to help out!!! If you have a problem with equipment please pop it along and I am sure we shall be able to help.
Flying tuition will be availble through myself and probably others if you need it. I am also happy for people to try out the Fatshark goggles and have a seat in the plane whilst it is flying to experince FPV. There will be a simulator running to so you can try out both FPV and LOS flying.
GCollins is brings the 3D printer so you will be able to see some of his fantastic creations.
THIS IS A MUST for people who want to find out more about FPV and thanks to the above will be a very informative day!!
Postcode is DN69AS - Campsmount School.
Any problems or any other ideas for the day let me know.
Indoor precision flying?!?!?!
oh is gordon coming? Sweet! Will be great to meet him.
Public maybe attending this event. Although NOT advertised there maybe a few people turning up. It will be made clear for them NOT to go near aircraft / the flight line but feel free to shoot on sight any that do.
I have asked the local paper, doncaster Free Press to come along to see the event as it will be great for some positive publicity to show we are good people and not a bunch of peeping tom's intent ont aking over the world whilst looking in to people private affairs..... we shall leave that to Google!!!
Speak for yourself :D
Sounds like a fine plan. Will get it sorted!!
Please put a post in the ground and put a name tag on it for me, so at least im there in spirit, its to many miles for me to be there in person.
im in Nottingham now, but going back home this Friday.
:+ G.
Ahhhhh shame G,
Will get the 3D printer from here doing something in your memory ha ha!!
Maybe I could print a G.Collins memorial ha ha ha ha!!!
The workshops sound just what I want for the future. Great stuff. :D ;D
Yep they will be really good and informative and should give a lot of people a nice heads up on what to do in FPV.
Please put me down for a name tag. I'm going to try and get there. Have started the journey into fpv. Plane, tx, rx and jr frsky 35mhz conversion ordered. Archos delivered. I have a family committment on the same day so will have to see. Planning to be there.

darhm thats gutting! was looking forward to seeing the bixlers john!
is nobody passing who could help you with transport?
Liam
I would give John a lift but my parents might be moving next weekend so I cannot say if I'm going now 100%
I might be on house moving duties
I may be persuaded to reroute into Lincoln on my way, it's a bit of a detour though
instead of 37 miles, it becomes 84 miles :D
I'm up for this. I want me a Zephyr name badge :P... and I can pick you up on my way John.
There you go!!! No excuses John!!! Guarantee a good meet [where you don't get shot down by overenthusiastic reckless Zephyr pilots ] and you'll get a fresh dose of enthusiasm - sometimes feels like you're on your own, I can tell you!
weather is looking good well done si!

WEEK TODAY!!! BOOM!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Free hug for anyone who kidnaps keukpa from Lincoln and drags him along to the event so he can see why he MUST NOT sell his gear!!!!
;D ;D
Hummm,
Interesting concept...I'm coming up from Stamford and could make a detour via Lincoln, Would be happy for a Kidnap, (metaphorically speaking of course) but hugs, though generously offered, I would have to pass on.
Key rings ready!
Are you ready for the best event of 2013 so far?!?

Doors open at 9:00am and we have the place till 2:00pm. (MUST BE EMPTY THEN)

What about those of us without wives?? Can we set up a 'spare wives' stand? :P
Keukpa
Fairly sure they call that "Dogging"......
lol .. fpv, cakes, dogging - this is going to be a brilliant meet!
Forecast is looking good. A bit of wind but that is alway good!!!!
http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/forecast/askern#?tab=fiveDay (http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/forecast/askern#?tab=fiveDay)
I have created a load of name tags for the event plus 30'ish key rings to take home.
When you arrive please grab a name tag and pop your FORUM NAME on it so we know who is who, will save the "So who are you then" conversations ;D ;D
Thanks and I look forward to meeting you all.
Simon.

visability is very good!
so atleast we should have no problems in the air :) abit of wind to slow us down on approach and a nice bit of lift on take off is good :)
Liam
Looking forward to this one even though I think only the Hex will make it at this point
SWEET!!! I know pleanty are looking forward to seeing you and the Hex.
IT IS ONLY A DAY AWAY!!!!
excited, AAARRGGHH, and a little apprehensive about flying. not that good yet, i have some spares though!!! lol.
Well the weather has taken a turn for the worse :(
http://www.xcweather.co.uk/forecast/DN69AS (http://www.xcweather.co.uk/forecast/DN69AS)
Doh :( have the x4 for some indoor fun maybe we will get abit of a break at some point!!
well an f330 isn't that big, so i'd say it's sports hall sized just pootling about.
Banner added for a live link. As long as you have a spare video output free on your ground station you can be linked up for everyone on the forum to watch your flights live :)
Coyote,
I have that nextwave RX box I made.... channel selectable... we could just hook that up if you like?
Keukpa
You could john, but that limits it to just people on Immersion gear flying on 5.8ghz.
All I need is a spare video output for anyone`s ground station and then its not limited to any frequency

And me!

wow thats a big trek, safe drive Brucey
Safe trip everyone. See you in a few hours!!
Simon.
Out of the window report!
blowing 6-8mph winds grey and overcast........bit nippy
but hey ho the sun should be out later hopefully! see you all soon.
Apologies to all but something came up and had to cancel the trip, hope you have a great day. Fly safe and enjoy it.
Thanks Simon/TeamFTP for organising this - I had a great time, lovely to meet some FPVers off here and even some BMFA members who came down to see what FPV is all about.
Hope you enjoyed my beginners presentation, wasn't particularly sure what to say or do and it was a bit nerve-wracking since I went first but I hope the new people got an idea of what FPV is about and the best way to get started :D
Enjoyed the birthday cake as well!!! So thanks to Mrs TeamFTP for that :D
Shame we had a lot of wind though - one day we'll organise a meet where we can actually fly properly, for those who flew it looked bloody choppy up there.
Here's to 2014!
Was a great day and yep the wind did get the better of us in the end.
A big thanks to everyone who managed to turn up today and I hope you all had a good day. To echo Steve's comments it was nice to see people from other BMFA clubs coming across to find out more. I am more than convinced that we did the hobby proud.
A special mention to Steve, John and Ian for producing and presenting such fantastic and informative sessions which proved super successful.
A big thanks to Marie for the cakes and of course my missus for te birthday cake, not forgetting John and the 400 dounuts!!!
As ever great to meet like minded folks and it simply proves what a great community we have on FPVhub. Keep up the good work folks.
Will pop some pics and video on later.
Thanks again to all!!!!
another great meet :)
and a great turn out too.
thanks again simon for taking the effort to get us all together!

thanks to all who turned up, for a great day...
and to those who took the time and effort to try enlightening us all in the dark arts.

Some cracking pics!
Love that last pic!
Great to meet you all, bit windy but glad I got one flight in.
Thanks for organising. Although not flying yet was a great meet for learning. Everyone is very generous with time and knowledge. Was well worth the drive.
Have a nice short vid of kepula's parrot drone with a mini quad piggy back and take off. Have just opened a you tube account but can not upload at the moment. Will work it out after I have finished baby feed and nappy change. Have to give the wife a break for my day pass.
Hunting for a downed skywalker brought home how easy it is to lose a plane.

Very nice Andy :)
Wow, some really really amazing photos and videos here.
Was a fantastic meet, really good meeting people, and seeing kit and flights, and even the odd destruction here and there (not me this time).
I thing this was a resounding success and thanks to everyone that made it happen, especially TeamFTP for organising it....
Roll on the next meet!
I must say, from the above, my fav pics are the disabled parking bay, and the one of marks hand launch....looks fantastic.
My fav video has to be the dual quad launch of ARDrone and Hubsan x4 :D
Fantastic!

dizzy
thanks to all for a great day and taking the time to enlighten us on the finer points of what it takes to have an enjoyable safe FPV flight and know what to do if things go wrong
great presentations, friendly atmosphere and fine day all round
till next time
Tommy
looks like a great day for you lads, & the weather didn't look to bad although a bit windy I gather, just hope the southern one in a few weeks is as well supported,
well done you guys.
A word of thanks to Simon and the guys for a brilliant introduction to FPV. We were the two BMFA blokes who came down from the Beverley area to see what it was all about. It was great to look through the Fat Sharks and see the view. The lectures were most informative too, and have sparked my interest. I'll be following the FPVHub with great interest. I have just ordered my first FPV plane, a Hobby King Skywalker. I noticed that most flyers at the meeting were using Bixlers (or similar), but I prefer to use a larger model to begin with. I'll be back soon when I have built the Skywalker for equipment advice.
Thanks once again to a very friendly bunch.
Cheers,
Trevor
Nice to meet you Trevor, thanks for coming!
From my point of view it was nice to be able to put across where we're coming from and hopefully with people actively working on behalf of this community we can get those legal issues solved for safety's sake thus ensuring that everything we do is above board. We're a harmless bunch intent on having fun with our planes, nothing sinister despite what some would have you believe :)
See you next time (and hopefully I'll pop over to Beverley at some point seeing as how it's just up the road :) ).
Yep thanks for coming Trevor, I hope we have enlightened you in to the world of FPV and done the sport proud.
Like SteveW I will make sure I pop up for a fly at your club soon.
Simon,.
I would just like to add what a great day I had. Thanks to Simon for organising it and the others for the workshops.
When is the next one Simon, soon I hope. :) :D ;D More more more.

I believe he said the go pro stopped andy :(
Liam
Yea we tried watching it on the projector screen at the meet but it cut off about 20 secs before the crash :(
Quote from: Andy66 on May 06, 2013, 06:21:43 PM
Mike did you have the go pro footage of the sky walker crash?
Sorry Andy, I,v been away !, We ran the vid from the GoPro but it stopped before impact so unlucky there , but most of the gear was recoverable ,so ordered a Bixler to get back in the air fast. ;D
Cheers MIKE. :D
