Bought a flyingwings falcon and thought it would be a good excuse to see if moving the fins off the wingtips is a good idea!

Here are some pics of a mockup of the fin attchments intended to go just outside the prop cutout.

1) Should be good for speed
2) Probably wont be good for duration since it lowers the aspect ratio.
3) Should eliminate any chance of waggling at certain speeds.
4) Very easy to get on and off , just mount with Velcro.

Overall though it looks like a fun model, so if this doesnt work I'll get another one and follow the recommended way  :)

Yep, I think I'd take one over the TBS caipirinha. Flew very nicely.

How are you all mounting the motor? Just self tapping screws through the 2 mm ply engine mount?

self tappers into the ply mount which is glued to the foam motor mount :)

interesting fin arrangement, tho what happened to the wing panels, look like they went thro a shredder in the pic !!

Cheers Rob

Hi Rob,

Sorry I do like to tinker

Anyway fear not .. The wing core in the pics is just an old core I had which I used to do a run-through mockup of how the fin attachments will work. They work ok in the photo except the velcro gives a bit of play, so I modified it so the ply plate on the tube fits snuggly into a slot on the actual plane. (Wish I had a 3d printer, then could make some sort of snap-in arrangement which would be much better!)

Anyway I'm committed now since I just started chopping into the actual cores. Its always satisfying to do that  :)
