NAZA Gains and Control

OK, so I've got my NAZA flying, and even in this AWFUL strong wind, 30MPH today, it holds position, however, there are one or two niggles I want to get ironed out.

What gains do people use on their NAZA with an F450 frame?

I've got an F450, GPS module and 10" props (groupner)

When I try to take off I notice that I need to give almost 60% throttle to get it off the ground, is this normal? My other quads take off with far less. And then I find it seriously yo-yos.

Any pointers would be most appreciated!

I've found that generally under 50% = decent and above 50% = climb.. 1/2 stick = hold.

Yea the controller is designed that @ 50% midstick it stays at the same altitude (so it wont lift off) so 60% stick you should see it lift i usually just go straight to 80% ish and it takes of nicely

Setup a throttle hold at 50%
For atti hold.

When I swapped to graupner props I found it did need more throttle to get it up in the air over the standard ones. Defo not as much lift there.

I have got a new set if standard ones and am going back to them for a bit I think.

When you say YOYO what do you mean? It's oscillating alot in a hover? Almost like it's fighting itself? Your gains are too high in that case.

Yup agree the graupners provide less lift and need alot more rpm for hover, im goibg back to the stock props

Is there any mileage in getting Graupners with a greater pitch?

3S or 4S?   I find 10" Graupners give plenty of lift on 4S (gets em spinning a good bit faster).  My Disco is a lardy 1.8KG and has plenty of speed and lift, pulls 50A in manual or FFF

IMO - faster RPMs and less pitch = more gyro effect and less affected by gusts so smoother FPVing (tradeoff is efficiency and bit less flight time)

Was the yo-yoing slow and bobbing or more of a fast shaking?

For slow bobbing try increasing gains by about 10%
For fast shaking (usually noticable under FFF or full climb rate) decrease gains by a small amount until it smooths out.

In ATTI or GPS ATTI, altitude hold will always be 50% throttle, regardless of craft weight, motors, props, etc (within the limits of the craft) Naza will regulate the actual throttle percentage sent to the ESCs to compensate for load.

That's the magic question Keukpa. I've still yet to get some decent settings for my 550

It should fly reasonably well out of the box if its not look at your CG and check you've got no harsh vibrations ...

Your props ballanced, using fast esc's and done the naza dance?

I've now built 6 naza/dji setups and all but one (iffy bulkets) have flown good out if the box :)

Thanks Davey, I'll check for bad connections and vibes, but done the calibration of GPS and NAZA, and CG looks ok!

I'll have to have a little more of a play tomorrow! :)
