bixler 1.1 build thread.

Hi guys,
welcome to my quick thread where i will skim over the basics of what i have done with my bixler 1.1

Picture 1:

first things first i wanted to do a dry lay out in the fuse to find where i would position each piece of equipment.
I positioned the esc to the back of the fuse basically for ease...the esc is nice and close to the motor and a nice long battery connector means it can be separated from my current sensor making a nice lay out and plenty of room for a bigger battery if i decide to install one in the future.

before progressing any further i thought it would be a good idea to plug all my equipment in to test everything before progressing any further(this benefited me as you will see later on in the thread.)

here is why its a good idea to test all your equipment before assembling the bixler or any model for that case.
the standard elevator servo which came with the bixler was DOA, seized solid! luckily i had a spare 9g servo laying around so i made the simple choice to out the dead one and replace with turnigy TG9E.
I simply prized the old servo out and re-glued the new turnigy servo into place.

here you can see the two half of the fuse's getting glued together.
i glued the fuse together with hot glue been carefull to not allow the glue to gain to much temperature as this damages the foam and makes it bubble.
After gluing the fuse i then went around the joint which holds the two half's of the fuse together and applied a thin layer of hot glue and smoothed over with a pieace of card i did this simply to add abit more strength to the airframe.

here i have installed the elevator surface
again i simply installed with hot glue, the foam slides in and fits nice with the fuse leaving no gaps! just what you would expect form a airframe.

Next up i installed the rudder surface again with hot glue, the rudder simply slots into both the fuse and elevator nice and snug.

now everything on the main fuse was assembled i thought i would tidy up the wiring in the cockpit.
as all the gear was previously in my axn and laid out in different locations some wires were extended and i did not want to cut them again so simply bunched them up and applied a zip strap.
This tidys the cables up and also means that if in the future i use the gear in another aircraft i have plenty of cable to allow me to move the gear about.

here is a picture once the wiring in the cockpit was tidyed up and the 3d printed canopy was installed (made by john aka kau........)

here i installed my control rod for my rudder and also my elevator.

here i have stared to install the aileron control rods.

shows the bixler complete all that i need to do is adjust my left aileron servo and we are ready fro a maiden.

Looking damn good! Glad to see the canopy fits your camera :D

Are you sure the servo was DOA? Did you try connecting it and moving it with the RX? I've found some of them are a little stiff to hand move but are working fine...

can't wait to fly our bixlers together! :D

Yes mate was dead :( when powered.it just clicked and would not move by hand either.
I can't wait neither  :) with simons to it will be bixler central haha

Nice build.

I would change the surface connectors so that you use the inner hole instead of the outer, then dial back the rates on the Tx - the way you have it now, you're not going to get much throw.

Use the outer hole on the servo side, and the inner hole on the control surface side (kinda like a bike where you use the big gear at the front and the smaller gear at the back to give you more speed, this way will give you more throw.

Steve is right for sure, use the outer hole on the servo, but I would (and have done on the Bixler) use hole #3 (counting inside out) on the aileron / rudder connectors.

Thing about the bixler is it doesn't need much movement at all and too much it tips...
