Hi guys,
Ok it's cheeky, but does anyone have a spare set of training legs that would fit an old Concept 30 ? Just trying to save some dosh and don't know which ones to buy, either. Or could I maybe make them myself out of bamboo, pingpong balls and cable binders ? Hmmmm.
Any thoughts from you are highly appreciated.
Cheers,

In all honesty, i needed trainers on my 400 and 450 to begin with, but on my hirobo 30 it really wasnt needed, they are so big and stable its by far imo the easiest way to learn fly a heli, loads of time to react.

Education and schoolin is good, but FPV is gooder :)

You can either buy a set from midland helicopters always cheap enough

Get some canes and ping pong Balls...

The big issue to begin with training legs do offer a big front print to land safely BUT the killer is at a 4ft hover the helicopter will vibrate so bad it'll put you off. Trust me its very hard to get rid of any vibration from the helicopter especially with training legs on.

As soon as your happy hovering and landing small steps 1st get shot of the legs and the helicopter will seem even better.

Thanks, guys, much appreciate your  replies. I am practicing like mad with a little Nine Eagles Solo Pro heli and on a Real Flight Simulator. So, perhaps once I got the old Concept 30 running again (needs lots TLC), I'll just give it a go without the legs, see how it goes (very slowly)...  ;)

I would, half the time the training gears more trouble than its worth. I started on a blade 400 when i started learning single rotors, was horrible, could only just keep it at a hover. Out of complete impatiance :) as soon as i got the hirobo i sent it up, took it over a park and let it rip.

I was hovering it and scooting it around all over, i wish i had started with a 30 to learn on, miles easier and forgiving

Mate, well, let's hope it will work out like that for me. But just thinking about it at the moment gives me the cramping of the stomach and the clenching of the buttocks. Crivens !

I only have a Nine Eagles Solo Pro flying, the Concept 30 is in hospital, but I can fly kind of anything on Realflight Sim 4.5. At the moment only with a Gravis Eliminator gamepad, but I should be receiving a Sim RC TX any day now. I have heard that most "pro" RC Heli pilots mostly train on Sims, so I am hoping that'll work out fine.

Dirk

Okay Don't take this the wrong way...

honestly do NOT take this helicopter alone and try and fly it!

Get some local help and make sure its right before its flown.

I've heard this story more than once and I've seen the out comes.

No worries, thanks, really appreciate straightforward advice :great:
Neighbour of mine has lots of experience, might bother him. But I think I will not be able to resist starting it up and at least trying to lift it a bit by myself before..... wish me luck !  ;D

Look simple truth until someone has been over it and the tranny do NOT start it

I've seen what happens, I've seen the mess afterwards

I have even test flown rebuilt helicopters and a Raptor 50 locked up in backwards flight, I can tell you know right there you'd be screwed a 50 is a Bitch locked in reverse and I planted into the ground on purpose and note this was Not My helicopter I had to crash on purpose.

But heres a BIG Safety Tip Do Not Stand Directly Behind a test Hover with any Helicopter...

Mate, I am almost too scared to go ahead now. I got the heli from a friend who built it and would prob'ly love to be there at launch. I am taking you seriously, so yeah, I'll do as much as I can to it and then ask my neighbour (30+ planes and helis)  :o to look it over. ... unless I cannot resist the one thing I am hopeless with, and that is temptation  ;)

No Marks right, first port of call someone who you know flies them to give it a once over for settings, slop and adjustments to make sure its airworthy first. Second port of call is someone with you on standby, a big nitro heli like that can cause a lot of damage to property and people in a heartbeat. That way if you get it checked you will find out if your setting it up right, if not where your going wrong and learn a lot in a little time.

Start setting it up with -4 0 +9 pitch at first. The same for idle up mode so no nasty suprises if you knock the switch by acident.

If its checked out and your gyro, expo, dual rates and swash ( no idle up ) are all set for it to be tame like it should be then dont worry. They are one of the most stable and forgiving platforms to learn on. But if you dont respect it it will bite your hand off :)
