APM 2.5 (ArduCopter) Easier than I thoguht it would be :)

I had never used an ArduPulot module before and when HK started selling them Curiosity got the better of me :)

It finally showed up yesterday so last night I uploaded the latest firmware, setup the RC options and slapped it in my old F450 frame..

..BOOM she flies out of the box! I haven't setup the GPS and Telemetry yet but I was fairly impressed with how it flies without doing any tweaking what so ever!

Its extremely responsive when compared with the Naza-M, it doesn't fill me with confidence yet but I'm still impressed it was so simple to get it going.

I just tried out the loiter and position hold modes in the garden, I still need to do some tweaks as it moves around quite a bit in gps/loiter mode plus the gains need fiddling with, it feels a bit numb in those modes.

Ardupilot is great. Am putting it in my Flyingwings Falcon. Now that HK have the elcheapo version its even better!

Best of all its open source and easy to program and missionplanner app works on Linux. I believe that the developers have now moved out of the Arduino IDE as well, which is a good thing really since they are now using bog standard C++ rather than whatever crap mess Arduino does to C++. In fact the software has also been ported to the PX4 which has a much more capable processor and may well be the one I buy next.
